Kenwood Chicago's Best By The Lake ABOUT KENWOOD Kenwood is home to a few popular apartment complexes like Regents Park, which offer social scenes that are ideal for getting to know classmates and other UChicago grad students. That said, if you want to grab a meal with friends or hang out at a bar, you're better off heading to Hyde Park or taking a trip uptown. By most accounts, Kenwood is quiet, safe, and affordable. The commute to class is very manageable with a bike or a car, and the CTA 172 will take you straight to campus. South Loop Up-and-coming Neighborhood with Rich History ABOUT SOUTH LOOP Filled with attractive parks and magnificent historical landmarks, South Loop is a place for everyone. From Music at the Chicago Blues Festival to history at the Field Museum and Adler Planetarium, this neighborhood encompasses a rich cultural diversity. It also offers easy access to The Loop/all of Downtown Chicago, so the location is spectacular. Woodlawn South Side of Chicago ABOUT WOODLAWN Woodlawn offers an easy commute to campus. Students can usually walk from their homes to class in just a few minutes. Additionally, Woodlawn boasts plenty of spacious units that offer amazing value for the cost of rent. Some units are even subsidized by the University of Chicago. That said, the social scene in Woodlawn tends to be less active and there are fewer community amenities. The front desk staff make you feel at home and always welcome. Maintenance requests are usually completed within 48 hours. The lighting and general apartment experience is better than Regents. Quite a few Excellent location law students live in Shoreland so you get a nice community feel and you don't have to leave much. The fact that it's located so close to Target, CVS, a cafe, and restaurants puts it over the top. Don't move here if you don't like a modern, industrial aesthetic. The concrete floors/ceilings could be a little bleak if you don't enjoy that look to begin with. I live in a north-facing unit, and I regret that I didn't rent sooner in order to get a south-facing one. It can be a bit dark for my taste, especially in the winter. The gym and common spaces are well-maintained, and I really appreciate the 24/7 doorman. It allows pets that are a certain size.
