HORSE TALES Prez Sez: We are pleased that we have had minimal grounds closures of the facil- ity due to rains. While not out of the season yet, we will continue to monitor the forecasts, and when significant amounts or duration is forecast we will seal the are- nas. This requires that all jumps and any other obstructions are cleared from the arenas and it can take Dennis as much as 6 hours to prepare and seal them. We greatly appreciate any member help we can get in making these preparations. We are excited to begin the 2021 Show Season with a Hunter/Jumper show March 20 and a Schooling Dressage show March 28. As we hopefully begin to emerge from the COVID pandemic, the compliance with our Safe Reopening Plan will be challenging. We ask that all members, sub-groups and trainers review this plan (available on the pvra.com website) and make every effort to fully comply. As State and local requirements are subject to change at any time, we may amend the plan as necessary and will clearly communicate them to the members. At this time only limited guests are allowed and all must adhere to the plan as posted. The Board has worked very hard in administering the Association in accordance with the Bylaws of the Association. We ask that all members review this important document (available under membership on the pvra.com website). The Bylaws provide a lot of information on how the Association operates and what the mem- bers can expect. We have found that most of the problems experienced by mem- bers can be avoided by being familiar with the information contained in the Bylaws. The March edition Horsetales includes information on a proposed New Entry Sign. The Board feels this is an important need and has approved bringing this to the membership for your approval. We believe that a combination of increased show events and donations beyond those budgeted would allow us to accomplish this without compromising the approved budget. The sign as proposed has a material cost of $1,400.00 and all labor would be volunteer or donated. It will require a per- mit from the City of Poway and the “design” as presented would be subject to any revisions/modification required by the City, and if they are significant we will bring it back to the membership for your review. With arrival of the “Show Season”, the need for a “Potty Person” is increasing. If approved, the New Entry Sign will need an attendant as well. These positions all have attributed work hours which can eliminate most if not all of your member work hour requirements. Please contact any Board Member if you would be willing to take on one of these tasks. I would like to once again thank our current Board of Directors and the tremendous amount of time and effort they have made for you to have the best experience possible as a member of the Association. We welcome and encourage your feed- back and input to continue making Poway Valley Riders Association an important part of your equine experience. Thank you for your continued support of Poway Valley Riders Association. Jim Walls, President 1
