INTRODUCTION Welcome to the ETONE GOLF SOCIETY 2022. Whether you have received this information pack because you have shown an interest in Golf, joining a Golf Society, or received it because you liked the look of what Etone Golf Society has to offer, congratulations on making the first move to learning the basics of this wonderful game. I hope this pack is informative and that it provides you with a basic insight into the society, how it works, plays and its standards. Formed in 2001, the Society is growing in stature every year and it accommodates every ability and level, from the novice to the expert. Its main aims and objectives include the following: * Provide and promote golfing opportunities for all in the local community * To provide a friendly and social environment in which to learn and play golf. * To experience a multitude of golf courses * Enjoy golf in a relaxed environment * Create socialising aspects outside of golf There are host of other minor aims and objectives the Society provides that the individual may benefit from, such as new skills, friendship, teamwork and comradeship, fair play and healthy but friendly competition. As well as the golf there are outside social events. Special events, competitions with prizes and plenty of fun are always on the agenda. The Society meets every year from March to October, once a month. The dates for these meetings are dictated by the availability of courses. An up-to-date programme is enclosed within this pack that includes dates and prices as well as regular updates and information on the Society website. However, it is certain that meetings are held on Sundays and near the third week of each month. On occasions there may be additional Society events of which you will be notified via the monthly newsletter and/or website when the season is up and running. The Society encourages constructive feedback, ideas, new initiatives and new members. Please bring them forward to any Committee member. I would like to take this opportunity in thanking you for showing an interest in Etone Golf Society and look forward to seeing you on the golf course. Sohail Caratella (Golf Society Co-ordinator & Chairperson) 3

A Membership holding fee is payable and will be returned if membership has been refused. All new applications are presumed as guests until one of the following criteria have been met: 1.1 All player applications and guests are to provide a certified handicap certificate or card, where ¾ of the lowest card will be taken and applied, whether it is an approved Club or an alternative Society handicap. 1.2 In the absence of a certificate: 1.2.1 New applications will play off their declared (unofficial) handicap for their first two events. 1.2.2 A minimum stableford score of 20 points must be achieved at either one of these events for membership to be approved. If the minimum of 20 stableford points is not achieved, then membership will be denied. 1.2.3 If an application has been denied no further applications maybe made during the same season. 1.2.4 New applications will not be eligible to play in the match play competition. 1.2.5 If membership is approved then all scores will qualify to be included in all other competitions. 2. The Chairman or Committee's decision will be final. 3. Society handicaps from previous year or last recognised handicap for any Society event will be applied to all future events. 8
4. All handicaps will be reviewed after each event by the Committee or Chairman. The new handicaps will be in force at the next event or any preapproved society related competitions/matches. 5. Handicap Adjustments According to standard scratch score: i.e. rather than getting cut if you accumulate more than 36 Stableford points or have a net below par score. Example: 10 players playing SS Cut H NH Player 1 32 0.4 x 8 = 3.2 28 24.8 Player 2 20 0.4 x 4 = 1.6 28 28 Player 3 15 28 28 Player 4 20 28 28 Player 5 30 0.4 x 6 = 2.4 28 25.6 Player 6 25 0.4 x 1 = 0.4 28 27.6 Player 7 14 28 28 Player 8 16 28 28 Player 9 40 0.4 x 16 = 6.4 28 21.6 Player 10 30 0.4 x 6 = 2.4 28 25.6 Add all the scores together and divide by 10 (Standard Scratch Score). All members in this example are assumed at the handicap of 28. 242/10 = 24.2 All those above 24 Stableford points are cut according to handicapping rules. However, all those below get strokes added on maximum of 2 shots. Up to 5 0.1 per point or shot 6-12 0.2 per point or shot 13-20 0.3 per point or shot 21-28 0.4 per point or shot 9

REFLECTION ON 2022 So, it continues with the pandemic. A new variant with the hope that it all dies down very soon so we can get back to some sort of normality. The challenges continues and we have overcome them to a degree so far. A long road ahead but again we try to soldier on. For most of the world this has been an eye opener with the loss of family and friends and the difficulties around work, and reality of mental health. We must try to remember that there is hope and there are people out there who suffer as well as people out there who can ease that pressure, loneliness, and sense of abandonment. It’s been a struggle for all of us with a hopeful light at the end of the tunnel of better times. Hopefully, that light will arrive at the speed of light rather than the rate of how long it takes a round of golf for some of us. All I can say is hang on in there, do the right thing and enjoy and be grateful for what we have. A fully committed and involved Committee every year sees consistency, enjoyment, and support for the Society members. Many thanks to all the Committee of 2021 and all our members (24) for their contributions in every aspect. The weekend away was well received and a relief that we could go. A great turn out that was enjoyed by everyone. The Vale turned out to be a great venue. Next year sees our trip to The Players in July. Another one to look forward to. We also had a nice overnight stay at St. Pierre. A trial of inviting partners which backfired. This approach I can’t see us doing in the near future. The website (www.etonegolfsociety.co.uk) is coming along great and year by year we will try and improve it. I hope you have appreciated some of the changes and the improvements that have already been applied. As usual the golf may not be great but the atmosphere and the spirit in which all the golf is played in is a credit to every member. A sure sign of success is the growing numbers of new members and the loyalty of those who have stuck with us for a long period. It was very disappointing to see the numbers of the AGM at all time low. This year we supported just the one charity, namely Mary Ann Evans Hospice, receiving £592.00. As agreed at the AGM as funds are low in the Society only half of this will be donated to the charity and all future donations will be capped at £250. Thanks to everyone for embracing this our efforts of raising money for good causes. Next year sees for the first time the membership fees being raised. We need to build the funds if we are going to have a spectacular 25th Anniversary. We have a packed 2022 and a weekend away to the special place to The Players. We played our match against THE COBBLERS (and lost again) in this hopeful annual event. I am now looking forward to the 2022 golfing season, so suggest we get stuck in. I hope you enjoy and appreciate the forthcoming year, whatever is organised for you by the Committee. Sohail Caratella Chairperson 14
