CREATE YOUR O WN at home! IRELAND DANCE challenge EASTER ‘RISING’ CAKE DANCE... In some parts of Ireland, a large cake dancing contest called a pruthóg is held at Easter. The prize for the best dancer is a cake, which they then divide between the contestants as they see fit. Many families also take part in this tradition. Why not recreate this contest in your home with an Easter ‘Rising’ twist? You’ll need to enlist the help of an adult for this task. What you w ill need: Cupcake mixture A cupcake case for INSTRUCTIONS A baking tray each family memb er 1 Using whatever cupcake recipe you have, An oven create your cupcake mixture. A wire rack coolin g tray 2 Each family member should have their own cupcake case. Some music 3 Taking it in turns, each family member must pour some of the cupcake mixture into their cupcake case. 4 Get an adult to put the cupcakes into the oven for the recommended time. 5 Watch as the cupcakes ‘rise’ - it’s a race to see which cupcake will rise the highest! When the time is up, the biggest cupcake wins! 6 Get an adult to take the cupcakes out of the oven and leave them on a wire cooling rack. 7 Whosoever’s cupcake has risen the highest gets to design a cake dance that the whole family must learn. at home! AUSTRALIA BILBY EASTER EGG HUNT! Just like the Easter bunny, the Australian bilby loves to hide eggs and play games at Easter time! Create your own Bilby Easter Egg Hunt by making clues to hide around your home! What you w ill need: Three bilby drawin gs Paw print drawin gs A scissors A pen An Easter egg (at least one) INSTRUCTIONS 1 Draw three bilbys. Don’t forget to make them as colourful as you can! 2 Draw out at least 10 bilby paw prints and cut them out. 3 Hide your egg(s), making sure to make it as difficult as possible to find them. 4 On one of your bilby drawings, write a clue for where your egg(s) are hidden. Then hide the bilby around your house. 5 The bilby is a bit mischievous, so on the other bilbies, write misleading clues to throw your family off the scent! at home! POLAND DYE EGGS Everyone knows eggs are a very important part of Easter. Just like the Polish ‘pisanki’ and Chinese red eggs, why not have some fun and use this recipe to dye your own eggs at home? It's very easy to make and most ingredients can already be found in your own cupboards, so you can start straight away! Don’t forget to get an adult to help! TO 1. The PREPARATION: m bre l o o k! lso a For each colour you should: 1 Line a large baking sheet with paper towels, then top with a wire cooling rack. 2 Get an adult to help you boil some water. 3 In a small bowl, stir together ½ cup boiling water, 1 teaspoon vinegar and approximately 20 drops of food colouring. 4 Immerse the eggs in the bowl for about 5 minutes. Don't forget to turn them occasionally to make sure they are evenly coated. 5 Using a spoon or tongs remove the eggs and transfer onto the wire rack. 6 When the eggs are dry, pop them in the refrigerator. 7 Repeat this process with other food dyes. at home! BERMUDA DESIGN AN EASTER KITE One of the most unusual Easter traditions is the Bermudan kite flying parade! Join in the fun this Easter by making your very own kite to fly in your garden or neighbourhood! 1 2 3 4 5 6 w i ll need: INSTRUCTIONS: What y o u ic r , p la s t ic bag or fabr 1 Make a lowercase T-shape with your sticks and attach them together with string Pape s S ticks or twig and glue to make the frame of your kite. Leave to dry. String 2 Lay your kite frame over a plastic bag, paper, or fabric and draw around it. Glue Then add two extra inches to each side, and cut out this shape. Decorations 3 Fold over the extra inches around the frame of the kite and glue them down (optional) so that they enclose the kite frame. Leave to dry. 4 Add string to your kite by attaching it to the top three corners of your sticks and the middle point where your sticks intersect, and wrapping it around the sticks. Make sure you keep your string long enough to fly! 5 Bring all the strings together and tie them at the center of the kite so that you can easily hold them as one. 6 Decorate your kite – you can even add a tail with ribbon or paper! www.epicchq.com/education History-at-Home Pack, EASTER RISING
