A Note From The General Manager Club Staff I would like to take this time to offer our sincerest Mike Zadalis apology on behalf of our entire Team that we were PGA General Manager not able to deliver as great of an experience as Chief Operating Officer we hoped for the annual Member/Member event. We won’t make any excuses and we will take full Bobby O’Keefe responsibility as a Team. One fact that I would like PGA Director of Golf to share though is that the wedding and rehearsal Jonathan Mielke dinner that was scheduled the same weekend was PGA Director of Instruction booked back in February 2019 and not the contrary. Justin Herron We will certainly learn from our mistakes, improve, Head Golf Professional and get better because of them. Moving forward we are forming a “Member/Member Committee” Sam Martin to help in the planning of all the details involved First Assistant Golf Professional with this event. This event will be treated at the Dan Maddox same level or higher than our annual Invitational Director of Grounds Member/Guest event. We will invite our reigning champions to serve as our hosts and co-chairs of this new committee. We will Andy Rhylander absolutely knock it out of the park with this event next year and for many years to Golf Course Superintendent come and offer an experience that exceeds expectations that our members deserve. Ashley Dougherty Director of Membership & Marketing Mark your calendar and plan on joining us August 7th! We are planning a giant bash as a member appreciation for supporting us the last 1.5 years through the global Olivia Lynes pandemic and coming out of Covid-19 in great shape. It took a village and total Office Administrator team effort from the management Team, staff, Board of Directors, and the entire membership. The event will be set up to be more “kid” friendly during the daytime Becky Rohwer and early afternoon, then planned to be more “adult” friendly for the evening and Systems Facilitator night. Expect a pool party and festivities similar to our 4th of July celebration. During Brian Shields the day we plan on a dunk tank, bounce house, face painting, and lots of kid friendly Director of Food & Beverage games. In the evening you can expect a parking lot party with beer gardens, a live band, food trucks, and adult friendly games and contests. So, keep your eyes and Candy Mapes ears open for final details as you will not want to miss out on this big bash. Events Manager Thank you for all the feedback, whether it is very complimentary or constructive Jacob Wuestewald criticism. We use it all to motivate the Team, improve, and get better so that we can Assistant Food & Beverage Director be the Best Club around. Looking forward to a great rest of the summer and year, and Zach Chingren hope to see you all soon and often, thank you kindly! The Board President Letter Time flies when you are having fun, or maybe it flies even faster when you are having fun and so busy! The Club has been hopping with golf events, social events, special events, and just nice and busy day in and day out. It is great to see the Club thriving after the last year and a half we all endured. The Club is in great shape with our cash flow doing well and our financials through the month of May have us almost $70k ahead of budget for the year. Both Golf memberships and Social memberships are completely full with substantial waiting lists continuing to build daily with Golf at 39 on the wait list and Social at 26 on the wait list. We certainly have come a long way in the last 7 years in not only membership growth, but also financial growth, and with the large number of projects and improvements we have been able to accomplish. Most of the projects have been completed and we thank you for your patience through some of the inconveniences we had to deal with while getting them complete. Mother Nature sure was not cooperative but these projects needed to be done and the improvements are fantastic. A big thank you to Mike, Dan, Brad, and the entire management team for all their planning and project managing they had to juggle along with maintaining daily operations and their normal duties and responsibilities. The new patio area landscaping has just begun and will be beautiful when its complete. We have been having great discussions and meetings at the committees and Board of Directors and are now into both a long- term and short-term planning mode. We have reformed the Facility Enhancement Committee and we are currently making lists of all the Club’s future needs, big and small. Please feel free to email Mike at mikez@oakhillsomaha.com if you have any ideas for improvements or projects you would like our committee to consider. Thank you all for all the support as we continue trying to improve and make the Club what we all want it to be, “our home away from home”, and a great place to hang out with our friends and enjoy fantastic experiences. Regards, Congratulations on their Holes in One to Jackie Roseland on #2, Jonathan Leymaster on #2, Todd Carey and Jane Pohlman on #9 Oak Hills Inc. Board President Project Updates: Patio Landscaping WELCOME TO OUR JUNE NEW MEMBERS! Robyn and Bob Freeman Barbara and Michael Muellner
News From your Oak Hills Management Teams... Golf: On behalf of the staff, I would like to thank all the parents and the membership for their continued sup- port of our Junior Golf Program that concluded at the end of June. We had over 172 young players take part this year and Jonathan Mielke did an outstanding job, once again. This was a fun and exciting time for all the PGA Professionals that were involved, and a constant reminder as to one of the great reasons why we got into this business. I would like to remind the members to continue to visit the website and the golf calendar as there are a lot of fun events coming up. With that being said, the Invitational is just around the corner and the staff will be busy mak- ing it one of the best events of the year as well as a great way to show off the club to your guest! Couple quick reminders on Dress Code Policy for the golf course and practice facilities. These are never easy conversations to have especially with guests so please make sure they are aware of our policy before arriving to our club. Congratulations to the following Members for their Great Achievements in June. Ben Rowan/Skip Hanlon - for winning the 2021 MGA Member-Member Event Mary Lu Wheeler/Kristy Damkroger - for winning the 2021 WGA Member-Member Event Jon Oswalt – for winning the 2021 MGA Club Championship Lastly, with the summer heat and the use of sunscreen and insect spray, please spay these aerosol cans on cart paths or in parking lots. The spray being used on turfgrass will kill the leaf blades and will take the plant weeks to recover. Bobby O'Keefe PGA Director of Golf Food & Beverage: I hope your summer has been awesome thus far, I know mine has. It’s nice to see everyone coming out of 2020 with such enthusiasm. All events have been well attended and pub/patio remains busier than ever. Thank you to all that continue to support our club. I would like to take this opportunity to fill you in regarding product issues. As you have heard or possibly even experienced, there is a National shortage in many products that we carry. Our food purveyor does a great job with substituting like product, but beer, liquor and wine continue to be a struggle. Please know we are working hard in securing product but some things are completely out of our control. We are gearing up for a busy July, so please continue to support our many wonderful events, continue to make online reservations for the pub and I hope to see you all very soon. As always, any comments, suggestions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly. Brian Shields Director of Food & Beverage Grounds: Summer is officially here and as always Nebraska’s weather remains very unpredictable. With the extreme heat and humidity then changing to numerous thunderstorms, this weather pattern is causing extreme stress to the golf course. Currently, we are on schedule with our fungicide applications, venting greens, and tees along with top dressing with sand. Thank goodness the rough has slowed down, letting us shift labor to deal with this weather pattern. We want to thank the WGA for their donation to the plant material that was installed next to the new patio exten- sion. Plus, a thank you to Kinghorn Gardens for their design. As a reminder, please take care of your course as you play by following all cart signs and rope, repair ball marks on greens, and sand your divots on tees and fairways. Dan Maddox Director of Grounds
Chef Notes Happy Independence day. This summer has been flying by, but with so many great events it has also been a lot of fun. The pool has been extremely busy and is a good sign that life is getting back to normal, which is a welcome relief. This upcoming holiday weekend should be another fantastic collection of events for the Oak hills family, the fourth of July celebration is always a fun day. I want to say thank you to the membership for being patient and understanding during these strange post Covid times. I am still facing a few supply issues with some suppliers, it has been a strange time and I never know from week to week what challenges I might face. With that being said, I do appreciate your understanding as we are trying to keep business moving as normal, even with these new challenges. I hope that everyone’s summer is going well and I hope to see you all out at the club enjoying all we have to offer! A Note from our Youth Program Instructors Junior Golf: The youth golf academy has completed it’s 4-week training program. We had a record number of youth athletes and even more smiles and laughter as they learned about putting, chipping, pitching, bunkers, full swing and rules & etiquette. The junior championship at Oak Hills is coming up with boy’s and girl’s divisions in all four levels. The youth Team Golf team the Offspings has a win the girls 14+ division at Wilderness ridge. The Oak Hill PGA Junior travel league team also has a win scoring 8 out of 12 points to beat the Players Club at Freemont. The Oak Hills Special Olympics golf team the Eagles have had three practices focusing on putting, chipping and full swing. Follow us as we are prepare for the Fall Games in August. The Super Speed Youth Golf Program is on week 4 of the six week program. On average each youth athlete has seen an average of 7 mph increase in club head speed. We have had a fun packed June and we are looking forward to an exciting month in July. I am very proud of all of the youth athletes. Jonathan Mielke, PGA Director of Instruction Swim: Swim team season 2021 is flying by and the swimmers are getting better every week. We're ecstatic to behos- ing Happy Hollow at our club for a meet this Wednesday and Players Club the following week. Our themes and meets were heavily missed morale boosters from years passed which we're thrilled to have as part of the program this year. The Fourth of July is less than a week away and the pool staff cannot wait to provide the grounds for some outstanding summer memories for our members here at Oak Hills Country Club! Alex Jones Co-Director of Aquatics and Head Swim Coach We are a month into the pool season and things are looking great! We have a mostly new staff but they were able to catch on and provide some of the cleanest, safest experiences yet at the pool. We seek and achieve new goals daily to improve the pool experience as a staff and the results are showing. We chose Henry Belik as our June lifeguard of the month. He has been taking great initiative and working hard to keep the pool both safe and clean! With swim lessons well underway and our big 4th of July event coming up, we are looking forward to creating a memorable and enjoyable summer! Jacob Whelan Co-Director of Aquatics : Tennis We have been as busy as ever on the tennis courts this summer. It is so great to see the enthusiasm for- thisgreat sport and so many kids and adults enjoying the lifetime sport. We are doing our best to accommodate the largest number of kids in clinics that we have ever had. We want them to have a lot of fun but also get them to learn the fundamentals and improve every time out. Pickle Ball is also going very well and I am enjoying the sport more and more every week – didn’t think that was going to happen. Kid’s Clinics - due to the construction with the court resurfacing at the beginning of June not allowing us to start when we planned to, we are going to go straight through the end of July. That will allow for 8 full weeks. Your child can come to as many clinics as they would like to. Each clinic is $12 and if you let me know when they are NOT coming, you will not be charged. If you only signed your child up for the first session but they would like to continue, just send me an email to let me know and let me know if there are days or weeks they will be missing. Please continue to email me when you or your child will NOT be in attendance for a clinic that you or they have signed up for. Here is a list of events coming up in July- it will be a busy month: Kids Tennis Games | July 4th - 10 AM Kids Tennis Tournament | July 19-22 (please email me to let me know if your child will attend in order for me Adult Tennis Tournament | July 24-25 to know how many assistants I will need) Kids Tennis Banquet | July 27th Rita’s and Rackets | July 9th - 6:30 PM (usually our biggest adult event each summer. Pickle Ball Tournament | August 14th Players will be given different, strange handicaps each round for some goofy/interesting tennis) Email me to sign up.
