The Society reserves the right to vary or add to the names of Judges as they
deem necessary.All owners, members and exhibitors are responsible for damage to third parties
howsoever caused by themselves, their employees, their agents or their equine.
It is a condition of entry that all owners/exhibitors have third party liability
insurance providing full coverage for participation in equestrian events and to
ensure that the policy is up to date. By entering you agree to abide by any
decisions, Council, the Show Organisers and/or judges may make regarding the
operation and Conduct of the Annual National Breed Show.
National Hackney Harness Championship Show
(For Conditions see Rules 1 and 3)
Exhibits to be shown to a Box/Show Wagon or Viceroy with traditional black, brass-
mounted Hackney Harness. The use of snaffle bits (4 or 2 ring), hackamores, side reins,
draw reins, kicking straps, aluminium beck sets etc. is not permitted. Bearing reins may
be used but overchecks are not allowed. Looped reins or handholds are not allowed.
The only exception being for a driver with arthritis or other similar disability. A whip
need not be carried but must be on the vehicle. All drivers, grooms and handlers must
be a member of the Hackney Horse Society.
Harness Classes are open to Stallions, Mares or Geldings, unless otherwise specified 4-year-
old or over. All classes will receive a medal for first to third place. Every animal in the class
will be places, rosettes to 6th and special rosettes below.
HACKNEY PONY CLASSES
To be eligible for a Novice class the exhibit can only be shown for three seasons (non-
consecutive). Novice animals may only win the title of Annual National Breed Show Novice
Champion and Novice of the year once. If they win either title, they will still be eligible for
Novice classes but will not be eligible to compete in either Championships the following
year.
CLASS 1 EXERCISE VEHICLE
Hackney Horse or Pony to an exercise vehicle, 2 or 4 wheel, excluding sulkies or road carts.
This is a Victoria Food Company Open Exercise Vehicle Championship Qualifier. The
Champion will qualify for the grand-final to be held on 12th September 2021, at the
Wellington Riding Centre, Heckfield, Hook, Hampshire RG27 0LJ. In the event that the
Champion has already qualified then the Reserve Champion to qualify. If the Reserve hasalso qualified, then the rosette to be given to the Champion or first place. Once qualified the horse, whip and vehicle may not be changed. CLASS 2 NEWCOMER HACKNEY PONY/HORSE Stallion, mare or gelding any height. For exhibits 4 years old or over in their first showing season (It can have entered any shows prior to the Annual Breed Show in the current year). Novice points will not be awarded, and it will not be taken into account for the three-year novice allocation if the only class shown in the season. CLASS 3 AMATEUR HACKNEY PONY Stallion, mare or gelding not exceeding 14hh. Animals exhibited in Amateur Classes must be suitable for and driven by an Amateur; Professional Whips, anyone consistently driving for other people or those dealing in or anyone buying or selling horses on commission are ineligible. Horses/Ponies must have good mouths (driven double cheek or half cheek) and manners. Drop nosebands are not permitted. A drop noseband is any noseband that does up under he bit, and the only noseband allowed is a normal cavesson noseband. A whip must be carried. Exhibits may not be asked to rein back. The decision of the Executive Show Committee as to the qualification shall be final and binding. Open Champions and Reserve Champions in Harness at the National Hackney Show in the preceding 2 years are ineligible. (26/30) The Brookfield Favourite Challenge Cup (27/45) The Kohinoor Challenge Trophy for the Best Exhibit driven by a Lady not exceeding 12.2hh. (26A) Doncaster Police for the best exhibit exceeding 12.2hh (28/27) The Surprise Challenge Cup for the Best Exhibit driven by a Lady exceeding 12.2hh. Special award presented in memory of Mina Alexander for the best turned out exhibit. CLASS 4 RIDDEN HACKNEY OR PART BRED HACKNEY Registered Hackney or Registered Part Bred Hackney, Stallion, Mare or Gelding, four years old or over, to be ridden. To be judged as a Hackney under saddle but the animal must be able to walk, trot, canter, be well mannered and suitable as an all-round ridden animal. Presentation and turnout to be taken into consideration. Height of action not important. Section A. For Ponies not exceeding 14hh. Section B. For horses exceeding 14hh. (If insufficient entries these sections will be amalgamated). CLASS 5 AMATEUR HACKNEY HORSE Stallion, mare or gelding exceeding 14hh. Animals exhibited in Amateur Classes must be suitable for and driven by an Amateur; Professional Whips, anyone consistently driving for other people or those dealing in or anyone buying or selling horses on commission are ineligible. (32/7) Gilbert Ambrose Challenge Trophy, for the best exhibit exceeding 15hh, driven by a Lady. NATIONAL AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP The best exhibit from classes 3 and 5. (31) Brookfield Champion Perpetual Cup (14) The Hampton Silhouette Challenge Cup, for the best Horse or the best Pony in the opposite section to the winner of the (31) Brookefield Champion Challenge Cup. (45) Christine Wenham Memorial Perpetual Trophy for the Champion Amateur animal driven by a Lady CLASS 6 NOVICE HACKNEY PONY Stallion, mare or gelding not exceeding 14hh. (49) The Armada Challenge Trophy, for the best exhibit not exceeding 12.2hh (15) The Emperor P. Of Holt Challenge Cup, for the best exhibit exceeding 12.2hh (19) Brookfield Novice Perpetual Cup, for the best exhibit in Class 6 CLASS 7 JUNIOR WHIP Junior Whips must be accompanied by an adult in a vehicle suitable to carry two people. Only one set of reins. The adult must stay in the vehicle at all times. A groom is required as well. The vehicle may be traditional or non-traditional but excludes show wagons or sulkies. Hackney Stallion, Mare or Gelding, 4 years old or over, suitable for and to be driven by a Junior Whip who has not attained their 14th birthday at date of show. Entries must be registered in / or entered into the studbook of the UK Hackney Horse Society. Minimum age 10 years at date of show. All exhibitors must wear a British Standard Safety Helmet with chin strap. To be judged on the driver’s ability, also manners and performance of the animal. Horses/ponies must have good mouths (driven double cheek or half cheek); drop nosebands are not permitted. A drop noseband is any noseband that does up under the bit and the only noseband allowed is a normal cavesson noseband. A whip must be carried. To be judge at
park pace, exhibits will be required to do a Stand Show at park pace. Dress rules apply. (34) Joe Peters Perpetual Champion Junior Whip (44) Halloughton Perpetual Junior Whip Best Opposite Section CLASS 8 NOVICE HACKNEY HORSE Stallion, mare or gelding exceeding 14hh. (21H) Ellens Boy, for the best exhibit over 14hh and not exceeding 15hh. (21HA) Roscourt Hackney Stud Perpetual Cup, for the best exhibit exceeding 15hh. (32) Marden Novice Champion Challenge Cup, for best exhibit in Class 7 CLASS 9 YOUNG DRIVER Hackney Stallion, Mare or Gelding, 4 years old or over, to be driven by a Young Whip who has not attained their 18th birthday at date of show. Entries must be registered in the studbook of the UK Hackney Horse Society or of a recognised Hackney Society Abroad. Minimum age 14 years at date of show. Exhibits to be shown to a Box/Show Wagon or Viceroy with traditional black, brass-mounted Hackney Harness. The use of snaffle bits (4 or 2 ring), hackamores, side reins, draw reins, kicking straps, aluminium beck sets etc. is not permitted. Bearing reins may be used but overchecks are not allowed. (50) Stan Hinder Challenge Trophy, for the best exhibit not exceeding 12.2hh. (44) The Little Swell Challenge Trophy, for the best exhibit exceeding 12.2hh CLASS 11 PRIVATE DRIVE Hackney or part bred Hackney Pony or Horse, single, pair or tandem. Exhibits to be shown in the correct harness to a traditional vehicle. To be judged at Park Pace, and a smart trot and on presence, manners, performance, quality and appointments. Horses/Ponies must have good mouths (driven double cheek or half cheek) and manners. Drop nosebands are not permitted. A drop noseband is any noseband that does up under the bit and the only noseband allowed is a normal cavesson noseband. Breeching/False breeching and bearing reins are allowed. Spares may be inspected. Pure and Part bred Hackneys allowed. This is a Victoria Food Company Open Private Driving Championship Qualifier. The Champion will qualify for the grand-final to be held on 12th September 2021, at the Wellington Riding Centre, Heckfield, Hook, Hampshire RG27 0LJ. (21) Lochinvar Challenge Cup for the best Horse Pair or Tandem (46) Marston Monarch for Best Horse/Pony pair Traditional Section (6) Dutton Challenge Trophy for Best Pony Pair (25) Surrey Tandem Trophy for best Pony Tandem CLASS 12 OPEN HACKNEY HORSE Mare or gelding exceeding 14hh. (41) The Brookfield Sheeza Lady Perpetual Cup, for the best exhibit over 14hh and not exceeding 15hh. (24H) Leslie Oats Perpetual Cup, for the best exhibit exceeding 15hh. CLASS 13 INTERNATIONAL HACKNEY HORSE OR PONY Stallion, Mare or Gelding, any height. All animals entering the International Classes (Section A and Section C) must be registered in the studbook of the UK Hackney Horse Society or a recognised Hackney Society Abroad. All animals that are registered in a recognised Hackney Society abroad must also be entered into the Studbook of the UK Hackney Horse Society. CLASS 14 NATIONAL HARNESS PONY CHAMPIONSHIP The winner to be deemed the National Harness Pony. To be eligible Hackney Ponies must have entered in this class prior to the closing of entries and must also have been placed in the first four in Class 6 or first 6 in Class 8. This is a qualifying competition for the Hackney Pony of the Year (33/3) The Robert Black Perpetual Trophy (41P) Colin Rose Memorial Cup CLASS 15 NATIONAL HARNESS HORSE CHAMPIONSHIP The winner to be deemed the National Harness Horse. To be eligible Hackney Horses must have entered in this class prior to the closing of entries and must also have been placed in the first four in Class 7 or first 6 in Class 10. This is a qualifying competition for the Hackney Horse of the Year (34/28 The Schroeder Life Champion Harness Horse Trophy (42H) Colin Rose Memorial Cup SPECIAL TROPHY TO REPLACE THE EUREN PERPETUAL GOLD CUP For the Breeder gaining the largest number of points in the In-Hand Classes (held on the 6th of June) and the Harness Classes. SPEICAL TROPHY TO REPLACE THE MARDEN PERPETUAL TANKARD For the Exhibitor gaining the largest number of points in the In- Hand Classes and the Harness Classes.
SUDDIE PERPETUAL TROPHY
To be awarded to the Breeder gaining the largest number of points in the In-Hand and Harness
Horse Classes.
For the above Trophies points will be awarded for all awards in the In-Hand and Harness Classes as
follows:

RULES AND GENERAL REGULATIONS
It will be assumed that Exhibitors are fully aware of the Rules and Regulations contained in the Show
Schedule and Hackney Yearbook.
All Owners/Exhibitors must carry their own Third-Party Liability Insurance and a copy of their
certificate for each animal included with each entry.
1) Championships. Championship Qualifiers must attend the relevant Championship unless
they have a valid reason for non-attendance and accepted by Council before
commencement of the Championship.
2) Membership. All drivers, grooms and handlers must be a member of the Hackney Horse
Society
3) Conflict of Interest. It is the sole responsibility of the Exhibitor not to enter under a
judge who has bred their animal.
4) Entry Fees. Entries close on the 1st of June 2021, at £15.00 per class. By the above date
entry forms must be complete in every respect and contain all the particulars required
by the regulations.
5) General
a. Entries must be registered or entered in the British Hackney Horse Society’s Stud Book.
Exhibitors, drivers, grooms and handlers must be members of the Hackney Horse
Society.
b. Entries must be the property of the exhibitor at the time of entry or have a lease
registered with the Hackney Horse Society.
c. Excessive Shoeing, Cording Horses etc.
The Judges, Stewards and Veterinary Inspectors will receive directions from the Show
Executive Committee to disqualify any animal which is ‘corded’, doped or faked in amanner which, in the opinion of the committee, is discreditable to the exhibitor or his
servant, and report same to the Council.
d. Faking
Horses’ markings must agree with the picture/description in their Passport/Registration
Document.
The Veterinary Inspectors are empowered to subject any horse to a special examination
and to take such samples and any such tests as may be necessary for this purpose. Any
horse may be subject to re-examination at any time. These rules will be strictly enforced.
Before entering the ring, animals will be liable to examination for cording, doping, faking
and excessive showing.
Hackney – Yearling – 12ozs maximum. Hackney Ponies – Yearlings 8ozs maximum.
All other Hackneys exceeding 14hands –1 lb. 7oz. maximum. All other Hackney
Ponies not exceeding 14hands – 1 lb.00 maximum. If in the opinion of the officiating
judge, any shoe exceeds the prescribed weight he will have the power to have such
shoes removed by a veterinary surgeon or farrier appointed by the Society, and if
found to exceed the weight specified the horse will be disqualified.
e. No training aids permitted on the showground apart from draw reins. Standard rubber
overreach boots and cross-over reins are allowed. Anyone abusing this ruling will be
disciplined.
f. Penalties.
i. Members, and exhibitors or their assistants who act in a derogatory manner to
the judge or any member of Council or contravene any of the Societies Rules
and Regulations will be suspended from the Society for a minimum of 12
months from the date of the incident. They will be unable to exhibit animals at
any affiliated show and no transfers of convenience will be allowed.
ii. Exhibitors arriving late will be disqualified from the class for which they are too
late.
iii. Doping. The exhibit will be barred from the whole of the show.
iv. No training aids at showground apart from draw reins. Standard rubber over-
reach boots and cross-over reins are allowed. Anyone abusing this ruling will be
disciplined.
v. Assistant trailing an exhibit will disqualify the exhibit from the class in which the
incident occurred.
g. Minimum age for all harness classes, except the Junior Whip, will be 14 years at date of
show.
h. No animal is to be blindfolded.
i. No allowed aids to be on any horses or ponies within the walkways or collecting rings.
6) Harness Classes
a. Harness Classes are open to Stallions, Mares or Geldings, 4-year-old or over.
b. Open, Novice Classes, International and Part Bred
Exhibits to be shown to a Box/Show Wagon, or Viceroy with traditional black, brass-mounted Hackney Harness. The use of snaffle bits (4 or 2 ring), hackamores, martingales, side reins, draw reins, kicking straps, aluminum beck-sets etc. is not permitted. Bearing reins may be used but overchecks are not allowed. Looped reins or handholds are not allowed. The only exception being for a driver with arthritis or other similar disability, but they must have a doctor’s certificate. The use of looped reins will only be permitted once the Society has received and verified a doctor’s certificate confirming the requirement to use them. Permission once given is permanent. A whip need not be carried but must be on the vehicle. If an animal enters an Open Class the Novice points will be awarded as follows: 1st 10 points, 2nd 8 points, 3rd 6 points and 4th 4 points. c. Novice Classes To be eligible for a Novice Class the exhibit can only be shown for three seasons (non- consecutive). Points are awarded at Affiliated Shows. 1st 10 points, 2nd 8 points, 3rd points and 4th 4 points. Novice animals may only win the title of Annual National Breed Show Novice Champion and Novice of the Year once. If they win either title, they will still be eligible for Novice classes but will not be eligible to compete in either Championships the following year. The top 12-point scorers will be invited to enter the Hackney Horse/Pony of the Year Championships 10 from UK including 2 from Ireland and 2 top point scorers from the Dutch entries at Ardingly. An animal can only be a Novice for three seasons from the start of their first show (not consecutive seasons). All imported or re-imported animals will be classed as an open animal unless its showing history proves it to be a Novice under the Hackney Horse Society’s rules and regulations. d. Amateur Classes i. Animals exhibited in Amateur Classes must be suitable for and driven by an Amateur; Professional Whips, anyone consistently driving for other people or those dealing in or anyone buying or selling horses on commission are ineligible. ii. Horses/Ponies must have good mouths (driven double cheek or half cheek) and manners. Drop nosebands are not permitted. International Classes All international classes are open to Section A and Section C animals. Open International. Exhibits to be shown to a Box/Show Wagon or Viceroy. The use of hackamores, martingales, side reins, draw reins, kicking straps, aluminum beck-sets etc. are not allowed. Looped reins or handholds are not allowed. The only exception being for a driver with arthritis or similar complaint who cannot hold the reins, but he/she must have a doctor’s certificate. The use of looped reins will only be permitted once the Society has received and verified a doctor’s certificate confirming the requirement to use them. Permission once given is permanent. A whip need not be carried but must be on the vehicle.
Novice International.
To be eligible for a Novice Class the exhibit can only be shown for three seasons (Non-
consecutive). No points will be awarded. It will not go towards its three-year novice
allocation.
f. Private Drive Classes (Affiliated to and run under the BDS rules and regulations). Exhibits
to be shown in a traditional vehicle. To be judged on presence, manners, performance,
quality and appointments. Horses/Ponies must have good mouths (driven double cheek
or half cheek) and manners and may be driven by the Judges. Drop nosebands are not
permitted. A drop noseband is any noseband that does up under the bit and the only
noseband allowed is a normal cavesson noseband. Breeching false breeching and
bearing reins are allowed.
g. Judging of Harness Classes
i. Exhibits will enter the ring at Park Pace on the right rein and then go forward into
show pace on instruction.
ii. Exhibits will change the rein on instruction by the Steward.
iii. Each exhibit will be pulled out and stood up in front of the Judge/s to adjudicate
conformation and turnout.
iv. The attendant when requested by the steward leads the exhibit squarely in front of
the judge and when asked, the exhibit, gives an individual stand show. The attendant
should then return to their original place in the lineup and wait for the exhibitor to
return.
7) Contagious Diseases. An exhibitor must forfeit and pay to the Executive Show
Committee a sum of £100 as and for liquidated damages, if the animal or animals
entered by him for the Show is, to his knowledge (at the time it is sent into the
showground) suffering under any contagious or infectious disease.
8) Judges. Shall have the power to withhold any prizes for want of merit or competition in
any class, and the Society reserves the right to vary or add to the names of judges as
they deem necessary. For the George Worboys and the Hurstwood Special Trophies and
awards in the Amateur Driving Classes separate independent and unnamed judges will
be chose.
9) Cups/Trophies. Challenge Cups. The following conditions apply to the Challenge Cups
offered, they must be won three times in succession or four times in all by the same
exhibitor before becoming his absolute property, unless otherwise stated. Exhibitors
who have won Challenge Cups/Trophies outright must inform the Society’s Secretary by
the 1st of January if they do not intend representing or replacing the Cup/Trophy for the
necessary alterations to be made in the schedule.
Perpetual Cups/Trophies. These cannot be won outright and remain in the property of
the Society at all times.
Heritage Cups/Trophies. These cannot be won outright, remaining the Society’s property
as a measure for retaining its History for the future.
General Rules. Should any exhibitor to whom a cup has been awarded, be disqualified
then the cup shall go to the reserve number, and it shall not be counted as won by the
exhibitor of the animal disqualified. The second prize animal in the classes from which
the cup winners are taken will be brought into the ring to compete with the cup horses
for the reserve number.Cups must be returned to the Show Secretary before 9am on the 11th of July. If the cups
are not returned by this date and time in a clean and pristine condition, you may not
be allowed to take home any cups that you win in the future.
10) Correctness of Entry. Every animal entered for a prize must be the bona-fide property of
the exhibitor at the date of closing of entries, but if an animal entered for the Show is
subsequently sold with engagements it can be exhibited by the new owner provided that
the transfer has been duly recorded in the Society’s records. It is incumbent on
exhibitors to prove the correctness of their entry forms, if called upon by the Show
Committee or the stewards to do so. If the exhibitor should fail to do this the Secretary
shall report the facts of the case at the next Executive Show Committee Meeting, and
the committee shall determine whether the exhibitor shall be entitled to any prize won,
and whether he shall be allowed to exhibit in the future at the Shows of the Society.
11) Objections. Objections of any kind must be made in writing, signed and delivered to the
Secretary before the close of the Show, accompanied by a deposit of £50.00 which
deposit will be forfeited to the funds of the Society at the discretion of the Show
Committee, if the protest be not sustained to the satisfaction of the committee. The
objector must state the particular and precise character of his objection. The decision of
the Show Committee and Stewards shall be final.
12) Disqualification. In case of any prize animal being disqualified, the winner of the next
succeeding prize in that class shall take the prize that was awarded to the disqualified
animal. An exhibitor who, by any trick, device, or other means attempts to mislead the
judges, stewards, or veterinary surgeons, may, on the case being proved to the
satisfaction of the Show Committee, be disqualified from taking any prize, and also
forfeit any prize already won at the show in question.
13) Absence. Exhibitors are earnestly desired to intimate to the Secretary, ten days before
the opening of the Show, the withdrawal of any of their horses.
14) Damage. The exhibitor of any horse which shall cause or occasion any damage or injury
whatever, shall indemnify and hold harmless from the Society from and against all
actions or claims. Each exhibitor shall be solely responsible for any consequential or
other loss, injury or damage done to or occasioned by, or arising from any animal
exhibited by him, and for the description as given in the catalogue; and shall indemnify
and hold harmless the Hackney Horse Society and Herts County Show Ground all legal or
other proceedings in regard thereto.
Neither the Society nor any of its officers or servants shall be in any way responsible or
accountable for anything that may happen (from any cause or circumstance whatever)
to exhibitors or their servants, or to any animal or article exhibited, or property brought
into the showground, or otherwise anything else in connection with, or arising out of, or
attributable to, the Society’s Show or these or any conditions or regulations prescribed
by the Society in relation thereto.
All Exhibitors must carry their own Third-Party Liability Insurance and a copy of their
certificate for each animal included with each entry.
15) Refusal of Entries etc.
a. The Executive Show Committee reserve the right to accept or to refuse any entries
or entry, the property of any exhibitor, without being liable for compensation: to
remove any animal from the Show, and to return any entrance fee without beingliable for compensation. The Executive Show Committee reserves the right to
amalgamate any classes.
b. No person who shall have been shown to the satisfaction of the Council to have
been excluded from exhibiting for prizes at the exhibition of any other society in
consequence of having attempted to obtain a prize by giving a false certificate, or by
other unfair means, and no person who is under exclusion from any other society for
fraudulent practices, shall be allowed to exhibit at this or any other show of the
Society.
16) Special Instructions to Exhibitors and Servants.
a. Grooms must be in attendance when requested by the Stewards. Exhibitors will be
held responsible to the Executive Show Committee for the good conduct of the
servants employed by them.
b. Exhibitors are warned against the excessive use of bearing-reins and shoeing their
horses unreasonably (see Rule 5c).
c. No stallion shall be removed from his box/lorry without a bit in his mouth.
d. All animals must compete for the Championships for which they are eligible. A valid
reason must be given and accepted by Council before commencement of the
Championship Class if an animal which is eligible will not be exhibiting.
e. All stallions, mares and geldings must be securely fastened in their boxes.
f. No horse shall be decorated about the head with colours other than the Society’s
prize rosettes.
g. The Society reserves to itself the right to have any horse photographed.
h. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor, to enter the ring displaying his correct
number.
i. Once judging has commenced in any class, exhibitors may not enter or leave the ring
if there is a reasonable problem, they must ask permission to stay at the bottom of
the line until the class is finished.
j. The Stewards shall have the power to order the expulsion of any person, exhibitor,
or servant, in their opinion misconducting him/herself on the showground.
k. The Stewards shall prohibit any noisy demonstration, and shall if they deem it
necessary, suspend the judging to prevent the continuance of the same.
l. Any special instructions from the Stewards of either the Hackney Horse Society or
Ashfields Carriage and Polo Club must be carried out.
17) Questions in Dispute. The Show Committee will meet if necessary, to hear any question,
or settle any dispute, and transact any business that may arise. Should any question or
dispute arise not provided for in the foregoing Rules and Regulations, the decision of the
Stewards shall be final.
18) Excessive use of the whip/voice will be reported to the Council and disciplinary action
may be taken.
19) Warming up. Warming up must be in the designated area which will be the collecting
ring.
20) Exercising. Exercising can only be done in the collecting ring outside of the show
timetable. Exercising is not permitted in any other area.
The Hackney Horse Society Welfare Policy StatementThe welfare of Hackney horses and ponies is of paramount importance to the Society, and
any allegations of abuse or mistreatment of animals will be investigated, and if appropriate
disciplinary action will be taken against any individuals involved.
The Society has a Duty of Care in all areas of animal welfare and may refer to and take
advice from relevant authorities, or report concerns for further investigation. This would
include the RSPCA, other animal welfare organisations, veterinary expertise, the governing
bodies of Farriers and Harness makers etc.
The Society will also operate a policy of non-tolerance of any suspected form of drugging,
doping, or the introduction of any substances which may cause the animal discomfort. The
Society accordingly reserves the right to blood test any animals participating in our shows or
affiliated competition.

Acceptance of this policy is a condition of entry to all shows, classes or affiliated
competitions involving the Hackney Horse Society.
If you are aware of any breaches of this policy, please inform the Society in writing with as
much detail as possible.
Health and Safety at the Show
The Health and Safety statement:
Council wishes it to be known that the safe running of this show is considered to be of
paramount importance. Everyone concerned, council, officials, competitors especially, their
helpers, grooms etc. and spectators owe a duty of care to each other to ensure that the Show
takes place without accident.
Safety on the Showground is everyone's responsibility.
To the competitors please:
No unattended horses or ponies
No unsound harness, head collars or lead ropes
Observe the instructions of stewards and officials and apply the sport's best practices in terms
of safety.
And to everyone please:
BEWARE FOR HORSES
No broken glassAll children under control
No dogs
Observe the instructions of stewards and officials.
Council have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present.
For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and
prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of Council and all the officials and
stewards.
So far as permitted by law the Society, its officers, employees and representatives will not be
liable to any person whosoever whilst upon, entering, or leaving the Showground for any loss,
damage, death injury or accident to persons or property or for lost or stolen items.
