Funding, Scholarships and Grants Handbook This booklet contains information on funding most commonly applied for by Manukau Institute of Technology students for full- time programmes (very few grants are available for part-time courses). Please read the information on each of the grants carefully so that you are aware of who you need to contact in order to apply for the grant or scholarship. This booklet can be downloaded from the MIT website: www.manukau.ac.nz. To be eligible for fees-free study at an nz/ institute of technology, polytechnic, private training establishment, university or wānanga, you must be one of the following: 1. a New Zealand citizen, or 2. ordinarily resident in New Zealand and: a. have been living in New Zealand for at least three years while holding a residence class visa, or b. a refugee or protected person, or c. sponsored into New Zealand by someone in your family who, at the time of sponsorship, was a refugee or protected person. You must also have been enrolled in a school in or after 2017, other than as an adult student. Or You must also have not undertaken more than half a year of equivalent full-time tertiary education (0.5 equivalent full-time student (EFTS) or 60 credits) at level 3 or above on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF), including tertiary education at an equivalent level undertaken in any country. This doesn’t include any tertiary education undertaken while enrolled in school prior to 1 January 2019. This doesn’t include any tertiary courses undertaken as part of your school learning programme or secondary-tertiary programme on or after 1 January 2019. This doesn’t include any credits reported as part of any industry training programme that consists of fewer than 120 credits that are reported after 1 January 2018. Course criteria To be eligible for fees-free, a course must be: funded by the Tertiary Education Commission (the TEC) recognised by either the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) or Universities New Zealand, and at Level 3 or above on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF).
