Our current program hosts a concert band, concert choir and guitar program delivered for grades 9 through 12. The band program is able to be delivered during the school schedule. Choir is held after school to allow all grades to attend at once. The guitar program is delivered through the general music program has an average of 70-80 students per year. Cody Drama consists of the regular scheduled Drama Program of Drama 9,10,20, and 20 as well as a Technical Theatre (Set, Lights, Sound, Costumes, etc) program offered simultaneously with senior high drama. This allows all in class work to be supported by theatre technicians throughout the term. We also offer an array of acting opportunities for students to be a part of theatre productions. Student actors can take Advanced Acting for credit and be involved in the main theatre production or they may act in student-directed One-Acts for our Zone festival. Our program has had many accolades including 3 nominations to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, several winning performances at our zone festival that sent us on to Provincials, and several awards for both acting and technical theatre at the Provincial festival over the last decade.

Support the Arts...they are alive and well.
HJC Student Council HJC Student Council is a grade 9-12 leadership initiative that focuses on giving students voice and ownership of events, activities, climate, and culture of the school. The decisions for the school year are made by a group of grade 9-12 students based on collaboration and planning. We focus on three major areas of school culture and climate HJC Connect - anything that brings students/staff together - School Dances, New Student Luncheon, School Events HJC Informed - Keeping students in the know - Fundraising, School Wellness, Upcoming Events HJC Who We Are and What We Do - Showcasing Our School - Art Murals, Beautification, Year End Carnival
HJC Mentorship We have continued our partnership with the town of Sylvan Lake for the youth mentoring program and this year we have 45 students who are mentoring younger students at École Steffie Woima, Beacon Hill, and CP Blakely elementary schools as well as Fox Run middle school. They have such a positive impact on the lives of our younger students in our community and they themselves have become more engaged in school and have developed mentoring skills and experience for themselves.
HJC Athletics We are extremely proud of our athletic programs here at HJ Cody. We have built a very successful athletic culture with academic accountability to all student athletes.
HJC Physical Education and Volunteerism It is our goal at HJ Cody have students understand the importance of lifelong fitness. We feel by offering the students various activities this will help show the students a number of different ways that they can enjoy being active. We have 3 full sections of PE 20/30 classes throughout the school year. This class does various off campus activities including, hiking, overnight camping trip to Frontier Lodge in Nordegg, Best body fitness, broomball, bowling and Cross Country skiing. These activities help show students ways to be active in alternative environments. All PE 20/30 students complete 10 hours of volunteer work during the semester that must be involved at HJ Cody. This mainly consists of organizing and scorekeeping tournaments, and games for our sports teams. Our 20/30 classes have also developed a great relationship with the elementary schools in the community as well. The PE students complete their leadership outcome by going over to Steffie Woima and teach/participate in organized games with the K-5 Students. Our classes also help work and organize Steffie Woima’s Terry Fox Run, and both CP Blakely and Steffie Woima’s Sport Days in the Spring. Our students also host year end volleyball, basketball and badminton tournaments for our Elementary schools.
