WELCOME 2 The theme for this year’s festival is As we consider the future of the planet and Into the Woods – and Beyond… humanity itself, we want to explore what it means to be part of an ecosystem – to delve into humanity’s relationship with the earth and the land around us, to understand our connections to it and to each other, in the hope of moving through difficult times and beyond, into a (hopefully) bright future. Zsuzsi, Festival Director #RDGFringe2019 TICKETS Designed by cream-design.co.uk You can book tickets via our website: www.readingfringefestival.co.uk or by calling 0333 666 4466 between 9am and 5pm. INTERNATIONAL 7 SEASONS: NORWAY & The Reading Fringe Festival regularly DÜSSELDORF welcomes acts from across our global community, including Russia, Italy, Canada, Puerto Rico and Spain. Over the past three years, in celebration of Reading’s friendship with Düsseldorf we have been collaborating with award-winning artists Emil Schult & Emma Nilsson from our twin town. Det Andre Teatret This year we will be entertained by critically acclaimed band the Parakeets, experience human sculpture with HARTMANNMUELLER, explore haunting soundscapes with Warped Type, and example the connectivity between art, music, and digital culture in the Eurasia Project ft Emil Schult & Emma Nilsson. We also welcome back old friends Blue Goat Theatre, urban artist KJ263, and classical guitarist Arturo Castro Nogueras. HARTMANNMUELLER Last year, our curator Fiona Talkington helped us lay the foundations of a new friendship with Norway, when we welcomed ice musician Terje Isungset to perform in the town. This year, we play host to world renowned composer Thomas Strønen, internationally acclaimed improv group Det Andre Teatret and playwright Joakim Gunby. We look forward to working with this year’s guests, and adding to our International Seasons in future years.
CONVERSATIONS 8 WITH TREES Curated by Fiona Talkington. New music commission created in Reading with Thomas Strønen, Hannah James and Jackie Oates. Jackie Oates One of Europe’s most sought after jazz drummers and composers Thomas Strønen from Norway (Food, Time is a Blind Guide) joins singer, clog dancer and accordionist Hannah James (Jigdolls, Lady Maisery) and singer and fiddle player Jackie Oates to uncover stories old and new, and take us on a magical journey of discovery, with additional inspiration and introduction from Helen Jukes author of ‘A Honeybee Heart Has Five Openings’.
