For the Love of Foo Portland has solidified its place as one of the country’s top destinations for food. Maine was pioneering the idea of ‘farm to table’ as a way of life long before social media and the advent of ‘food porn’. Connection to the land and animals that provide for us is deeply rooted in New England culture from hunting and foraging to picking and canning. Here we have collected a few of our best food based works from our artists across the country. Artists in Alphabetical Order Diane Dalhke | Joelle Feldman | Matt James | Carol Rottie | Robin Swennes For inquiries into the works or any other information, please contact: Jennifer Swarts Jess Lauren Lipton Gallery Owner Gallery Manager jen@cascobayartisans.com CBArtMarketing@gmail.com d

Joelle Feldman I was born and raised in Normandy, France and today share my time between Harvard, MA, Harpswell, ME and France. I began painting over 30 years ago, first in watercolor and thereafter in pastels and oils, which have become my two media of choice for both studio and plein air painting. After a career in high technology as Globalization Project Manager, I left corporate life to dedicate myself to painting. The landscapes, flora and architecture of my native France and adopted New England home provide endless inspiration and opportunities to capture a subject and moment: individual natural elements, plants, and vignettes of daily life. My work has been accepted in Members and National Juried shows of the Pastel Society of New Hampshire, the Connecticut Pastel Society, the Concord Art Association, the Artist Cottage and Studio, KISMET Foundation in Cousins Island, ME, River Arts in Damariscotta, ME and the Parish Center for the Arts in Westford, MA. In 2015, I was selected as one of the 80 Dusty Fingers artists in the Artists in Residence Program (AIR) at the Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, MA. Carol Rotti Realism is my focus, through the medium of oil. My father was an artist and taught me the fundamentals of art at a young age. About fifteen years ago, while living in Atlanta with my children and husband, my passion for art became renewed. My focus was on murals and teaching oil painting classes. I currently reside in Kona, Hawaii on a three acre farm where my husband and I grow Kona coffee and avocados with our four dogs. I have a great appreciation for the past and find inspiration in cooking and the true “farm to table” experience. Growing up in an Italian family, the best vegetables and fruits were from the garden. I have wonderful childhood memories of picking and canning with my parents. This continues to influence my work as I truly appreciate the intimacy of growing my own food. My travels, education, and life on the island provide inspiration. Whether hiking through nature or an art museum, these experiences are always informing my creations. My degree in Accounting also contributes, as nods to Fibonacci manifest themselves in objects, design and repetition. In my recent work, the intimacy of life, which I find in growing, preparing, and canning my own food, represents itself through things like fruit, vegetables, and the tools of preservation. Robin Swennes So many things inspire me that I don't have time to paint them all; I must have several thousand photos I've taken, hoping that I will paint them someday. It can be color that hits me, or a feeling I get from a scene. I see farmers all around where I live, and it all looks so dreamy and romantic, with horses and cows in the field, or hay bales recently rolled. But the truth is that it's hard work; my paintings only show the 'fantasy' of farm life. I focus on subjects in categories and try to do a few in each series so I can keep variation in what I do. Most important for buyers to understand is that artists need change. Eventually, they may stop doing the subject matter or style that you love, so you should BUY it when you see it, and not miss your chance. I missed a chance several years ago to buy a piece I loved because I had just gotten a big speeding ticket and was worried about the money. I wish now that I had bought the piece because that artist no longer does that kind of work. Robin Swennes ‘The Blue Period’ Acrylic on Panel 12”x20” $775
