VALUES WORKSHOP a Dakota Annual Conference tool for local churches Here in Jamestown First UMC on Sunday, September 26th, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (After worship with catered lunch – please RSVP so we know how much food to order) If someone were to ask people in our local congregation to name the church’s top five core values, how many answers do you think they would get? Would there be some similarities? Differences? Values drive our behaviors and decisions, and are a part of the unique identity of each local congregation. The Dakotas Strategy Team has developed a 4-hour work- shop to assist churches in discovering and defining their core values. The workshop uses videos, personal refection, small group discussion, and large group conversation and consensus to help our congregation define our core values and it costs us nothing but our time. District Superintendent, Rev. Joel Winckler will lead the Values Workshop after worship here on Sunday, September 26th, helping us do the life-giving and critical work of determining our core val- ues. These values serve as a guide to how our church can live out our mission, to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. This workshop is especially important as we consider staffing priorities after Pastor Michelle re- tires in December. The more people in our congregation who participate - the more accurate our statements of our congregational values. Please register with the church office (952-3718) by Wednesday, Sept. 22nd, so we know how much food to serve. Thank you. CHILDCARE CAN ALSO BE PROVIDED IF REQUESTED WHEN YOU REGISTER UNITED METHODIST NEWS!! Get ready to meet again!! We plan to have a Unit Meeting on Thursday, September 9th at 1:30 pm…hoping to have our Shepherdess visiting us too. Sharon Caine will bring treats/dessert. Thanks to those helped with the State Hospital ‘Birthday Celebration’/Sing a Long and Bingo on August 24th. You are appreciated! UPCOMING UMW EVENTS • September 18th….Northwest District Retreat/Annual Meeting at Epworth UMC, Valley City • October 1-2 United Methodist Women Dakotas Conference Annual Celebration at St. Paul’s UMC, Jamestown (Contact Dorothy Chouinard or Rosemary McDougall for more information.)

Still, a variety of factors complicates the church’s response to the second catastroph- ic earthquake to ravage the impoverished nation in 11 years. SOLID FOUNDATION GROWING CENTER UPDATE Welcome Fall! We here at Solid Foundations Growing Center are so thankful to reflect back on an absolutely wonderful summer! Packed full of outside time, park play, swimming, popsicles and just overall fellowship--we are always grateful for the blessings summer has to offer! Summertime is somewhat busier than our school year--as we are happy to serve our "big kids" that normally attend elementary school. Unbelievably, we provided care for 32 children over the course of this summer! Wow! Multiply that by the number of family members per those 31 kids and we've got a very large group that we're serving. We're honored to be able to show the love of our Savior on a daily basis to these families! What a ministry we are so glad to pro- vide for our community. I always receive comments when out and about in the community, about how many fun activities our kids get to participate in and we're so honored to be able to do so. Also, in partnership with the fun "summer outdoor activities" we also provide our faith based cur- riculum, in which we sing, pray and learn a new bible verse monthly (with sign language) and let me tell you--it's so powerful to hear these children recite God's word with such excitement! I often post video and picture updates on our Childcare Ministry's social media page--feel free to search for Solid Foundations Growing Center on Facebook if you haven't already done so. In coordination with the families we serve, we also are grateful to minister to many staff mem- bers here at SFGC! One of my greatest joys as director, is that our "previous workers" that head off to college after working for us, so often want to come back and work over the course of the summer! They love and miss the children here at our childcare ministry and it's so awesome to welcome our crew back to fellowship over the summer. We were blessed to have over 12 staff over the course of this summer's program. So great! Now, as we welcome the next season, it is with much gratitude that we welcome a new family to our childcare, that attends and is active at First Church! We now have TWO families at our center that attend First Church and we were so pleased when one of our SFGC families chose to baptize at First Church! One of the goals of our ministry is to help serve the congregation of our church body, while also encouraging our SFGC enrolled families to attend First Church. What a blessing to report that we're able to say we see both goals happening within the course of this childcare ministry. Please feel free to stop by our center (Covid regulations do apply) and visit anytime, we're so happy to have First Church members volunteer read, or simply stop by to see artwork or hear our monthly verse. God is moving here, and God is good! We are truly blessed to provide this outreach to our Jamestown and surrounding community. We thank-you for your continued support and prayer! Fall blessings to all, In Him, Lindsey Voeltz, SFGC Director
