FEBRUARY 1, 2022 Evergreen Express D.C. Everest Middle School Message from Principal Lehman I hope this newsletter finds you staying warm and healthy as we work our way through the coldest part of 2022. I was recently reminded that we are nearing our 100 days of the school year mark - and the end of another year is now closer than the beginning. I'm excited to see what the next few months brings as we head into the final laps. We're going to keep working strong and keep doing great things. Upcoming Date Reminders: Stay warm. Stay focused. Stay strong. Thank you for your continued support of DCEMS. February 11: Parent/Teacher Conferences Middle School Winter Fun Night Parent Teacher Conferences are right around the corner. We will continue to use our online Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduling website. Please note that our February 13-28: middle school conference times fill up quickly. You will have an option to sign-up for an in-person conference, a virtual conference via Webex, an email Hygiene Drive from the teachers or a phone call during your scheduled time. If you sign-up for a virtual conference, you will be sent a specific Webex link to follow for each February 18: conference you schedule. No School As you are aware, we serve students in the “house concept” here at the middle school. Our houses are made up of the five core subjects (English, Language February 24: Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies). In an effort to increase the availability of Parent Teacher conference time slots to accommodate more parents, a “house conference” will Conferences involve either two or three of your student’s core teachers and that group of 3:00-7:30 pm teachers will share information about all core subjects. In addition, you may also schedule individual conferences with your students' encore teachers, interventionists, guidance counselors, and administrative staff. March 3: Parent Teacher The system will be open to parents to schedule conferences up until 24 hours Conferences 3:00-7:30 prior to each conference date. You will know your conference times immediately pm and be able to change appointments if necessary. A personal website link will be sent to you via Infinite Campus email on February 1st. March 18-25: Conference dates/times are: No School ●Thursday, February 24th 3:00 - 7:30 pm ●Thursday, March 3rd 3:00 - 7:30 pm If you do not have computer access, you can schedule a conference by calling or emailing Kathy Lannigan (klannigan@dce.k12.wi.us) in Student Services at (715) 241-9700 ex 2316. 1
Course Registration for 2022-23 Course registration information for our current 6th and 7th grade students will be distributed to students during the week of February 7th. Our school counselors and the Junior High counselors will be meeting with students to go over specific course information and how to register. Below you will find QR codes that link to our Course Selection Guides and Course Registration Directions. You will select the QR code that pertains to the grade level your student is entering in during the 2022-2023 school year. Incoming 6th grade 6th Grade registration is opening 6th Grade Course February 7th and Transition Video closes February 11th. Directions Guide 8th Grade Course 8th Grade Incoming 8th grade registration is opening Registration Course Selection February 7th and Directions closes February 14th Guide 2021-2022 Covid Updates Stay up to date with the 2021-2022 school district covid updates by visiting http://dce.k12.wi.us and clicking on 2021-2022 School Year Information on the left hand side of the page. Lost and Found Lots of items have been accumulated in the lost and found. If your child is missing any items like hats, gloves, sweatshirts, coats, shows, etc. have them check the lost and found by our gym. 2
All in For Students School counselors are “All In For All Students” every day. February 7-11, 2022 is National School Counseling Week, and we were excited to honor and celebrate their work and dedication to the students of DCEMS. Thank you, Mrs. Reinardy and Mr. Wolfe for being all in for our students. School Bus Driver Appreciation Day February 23 is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day. DCEMS extends our gratitude to the amazing drivers at Lamers for their work every day to keep our students safe. Summer Save the Dates Summer school will run June 13-July 14 Monday through Thursdays for grades 4K-11. July 4th will be off for the holiday. Strength and Conditioning will be offered again for our students this summer and those dates will be June 7- August 12. We will also have our Jump Start and Kick Start music programs in August. Registration materials and more details will be sent to parents via Infinite Campus mid March. H4H (Help for the Homeless) Hygiene Drive Peyton’s Promise will be holding a H4H Hygiene Drive from February 13-February 28 at the D.C. Everest Middle School and other participating locations. There will be collection boxes in the main office for students to drop off any new hygiene products. Examples of items: *Laundry Soap *Dish Soap *Garbage Bags *Shampoo/Conditioner *Hair Brushes *Combs *Toilet Tissue *Facial Tissue *Paper Towels *Bar Soap *Deodorant (unscented) *Cotton Balls *Q-tips *Moisturizer/Lotions *Contact Solution *Lip Balm *Hand, Foot or Body Warmer Inserts *Toothpaste *Dental Floss 3

Action for Happiness Calendar We need each other more than ever right now! This month let's focus on reaching out to connect with others and doing our best to be a good friend. Our acts of kindness and connection ripple out and impact so many more people than we realize - and they also boost our own happy hormones too! In stressful times people around us may be feeling the strain, so let's try to keep calm, take time to listen and show compassion. Cats Performance Looking for something to do with the family next week? Come to the Grand Theater to support some of our Middle School students in their performance of Cats! 6
Promoting Kindness Middle school can be a difficult time for students when it comes to peer relationships. We work hard to make sure that students are kind to one another and to staff. Talking to your kids about being kind and modeling that behavior at home is helpful. Here are some ideas on how to add kindness to family routines. 7
