WELCOME TO UTAH! On behalf of the Utah Olympic Oval Organizing Committee and US Speedskating, we are thrilled to be hosting the ISU World Cup Short Track competition. We extend a warm Utah welcome as 250 participants from 30 different countries descend upon the Utah Olympic Oval, home to the “Fastest Ice On Earth”. These events would not be possible without the support and guidance of the International Skating Union, the governing body of our sport, and we thank them for their trust and confidence in our venue, staff and volunteers over the years. We appreciate the continued support we receive from local spectators, community representatives and our sponsors. Our continued success is a direct byproduct of the passion and countless hours donated by our volunteers. A special thank you to our technical volunteer team who commit hours to ensuring this event’s success. Our best wishes go to the athletes, coaches and team support who have trained and worked so hard to earn the opportunity to be here. We look forward to a very exciting competition! Kind regards, Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation & U.S. Speedskating 20 18 ISU Worl d Cup Shor t Tr ack | Ut ahO l y mp i c L e g a c y. o rg

ABOUT SHORT TRACK Short Track is a high-paced, action-packed competitive speed skating discipline where four to six skaters compete on an oval ice track. With an exciting mass start, Short Track Speed Skating is often referred to as “NASCAR on ice”. Short Track skaters can reach top speeds of 35 mph and pull about 3 Gs in the turns. A demostration sport at the 1988 Winter Olympics held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Short Track was officially upgraded to a full Olympic sport in 1992 with four events. At the 2002 Winter Olympics held here in Salt Lake, Short Track featured eight events. Short Track races includes the following distances: 500m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m and 5000m relay for men and 500m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m and 3000m relay for women. SHORT TRACK FACTS + STATS Short Track skaters compete on an Olympic-sized hockey rink (60m x 30m) with a track circumference of 111m Skaters race counter-clockwise Competition reduces the field through elimination races until the final round. The uniforms the skaters wear are called skin suits. They are made of soft materials that mold to the skater’s body. Race Distances: 500m = 4.5 laps 1000m = 9 laps 1500m = 13.5 laps 2000m = 18 laps 3000m = 27 laps (Women’s Relay) 5000m = 45 laps (Men’s Relay) 20 18 ISU Worl d Cup Shor t Tr ack | Ut ahO l y mp i c L e g a c y. o rg
