OZ VENTURE 2021 What is OZ Venture? Previously known as the Australian Venture or ‘AV’, Oz Venture is the premiere event for Australian Venturer Scouts! Oz Venture provides an opportunity for all Venturer Scouts (Aged 14 - 18) to come together for an unforgettable, one in a lifetime experience. An event crafted for Venturers, Rovers and Leaders, a Venture provides the unique opportunity to seek out new challenges, discover and develop new skills, while having adventures with Youth Members from all around the world. With expeditions all around the Pacific region, a Core Camp built on challenge by choice and exciting, International entertainment acts, Oz Venture is not to be missed. A Venture occurs only once every three years, rotating between Scouts Australia’s Branches. This allows Ventures to be events that are constantly changing and evolving, no two Ventures are ever the same! Major Events are full of unique experiences for both our Youth and Leaders, made possible only by the spontanious, energetic environment of our camps and their activities. A Venture is a little bit different to a Jamboree, as the event consists of two major components: 1. The Expedition Phase – Offering various experiences away from the Venture site 2. The Core Camp – Offering on-site and local activities what's new? OZ Venture 2021 is the 1st Australian Venture to: • Offer expeditions of varying durations • Offer expeditions outside Australia • Not have a central starting location OUR FOCUS! • Ensure clear educational outcomes • For our activity range to suit all budgets • Exciting activities for all our members • Accessible to everyone What Is Oz Venture 2021? - OZV2021 3
THE YOUTH PROGRAM Program Essentials The OZ Venture Expedition Team has been working hard to ensure that our Expeditions on offer are not only attractive, affordable & accessible but in line with the educational purpose of Scouting. Each Expedition Spread will include suggestions on how the experience can be applied to the Youth Program. It is important to understand that Venturer Scouts will still need to set goals and outcomes with their home Units before attending the Venture. Venturer Scouts will be able to achieve badgework in several key areas. Venturer Scouts will need to have clear goals and demonstrate how they have participated, assisted or lead an activity within the expedition, for the experience to contribute towards their Program Milestones. We’ve incorporation the Program Milestones to encourage Venturer Scouts' active engagement in all aspects of the Expedition Program. We believe it’s important for Venturer Scouts to be recognised for their learning and personal development throughout the event. There are two key elements to each Milestone in the Program Essentials: 1. Participating, assisting and leading in the four Challenge Areas 2. Personal reflection at the completion of each Milestone 4 OZV2021 - The Youth Program
Challenge areas Challenge Areas are the four broad activity areas that are used to support programming and ensure a balanced Expedition Program. Each expedition will have an opportunity for Venturer Scouts to participate in activities aligned to the Challenge Areas. For Venturer Scouts to use the Challenge Areas towards their personal progression, they will need to obtain details regarding the itinerary or activity list from the Expedition Leaders, prior to the event. Allowing Venturers to set personal goals and discuss them for approval with the Unit Council. These personal goals will outline how the Venturer Scout assists and leads throughout the expedition. outdoor adventure skills The Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) are for those who want to learn and develop their skills in the Outdoors, across the Core and Specialist Skill Areas. Selected expeditions offered by OZ Venture will give Venturer Scouts the opportunity to work on the OAS Stages for the skill area (or areas) on offer. Venturer Scouts intending on using the activities offered by expeditions to progress through an area of the AOS, will first need to reach out to the expedition leader to understand the level of activities being offered. After confidently demonstrating their new abilities, Venturer Scouts may be signed off against “I-statements” within stages of the respective Outdoor Adventure Skill. They are not needed to explicitly show those skills again, although they are likely to need to practice them in order to learn the next Stages’ skills. Challenge Areas and OAS - OZV2021 5
THE CORE CAMP what is the Core Camp? The Core Camp runs from the 5th - 10th of January, where everyone heads back to the main site. Oz Venture 2021’s Core Camp site will be held in Sydney, NSW, Australia with activities in and around the metropolitan and greater Sydney areas. The core camp will cost $889 for Youth Members and $595 for Adults. how do credits work? THE EXPEDITIONS What are they? Expeditions are the first phase of Oz Venture. Varying in length, locations, activities and cost, an expedition is your chance to truly shape your experience. For the first time, we are running expeditions of variable lengths, in and out of NSW. Our teams have been working hard to prepare a range of international and domestic expeditions for your choosing. Whether it’s traveling on an international adventure, seeing the iconic red dust of the Northern Territory, learning to fly a plane, or staying on Cockatoo Island, we have an expedition for everyone! WHAT'S DIFFERENT? 1. Flexible start dates – We understand that some people may find it challenging to find time off at this time of year, that’s why expeditions vary from 3 – 10 days in length. 2. International options – With roughly 25% of Venturer Scouts having attended a Scouting event overseas, we wanted to give you the opportunity to return to some of our favourite locations or visit somewhere completely new. 3. Expeditions outside the host branch – OZ Venture is a National Event, so we wanted to give you as much opportunity to experience Australia as possible. 8 OZV2021 - The Expeditions
