Inchworm News March 2021 Dear Families, February Recap February was a fun month, as we learned about love, friends, family, and colors. We read books and sang songs about our families, friends, love, colors, and Valentine’s Day. Some favorite books were “Grandma,” “Shiny, Touchy, Smelly Colors” and “Peekaboo, I Love You.” We brought the winter weather inside by filling individual bins with fresh, clean snow for the babies to explore. They also enjoyed exploring colors when the teachers would gather toys all of one color for them to play with. We painted pink and red hearts and colored with crayons. Personal Achievement Olivia is becoming a full-fledged walker, making her way around the room upright, often carrying a toy as she walks. She had fun with our coloring and painting activities, and also had fun exploring the snow we brought inside in bins, even insisting on taking her sock off and putting her foot into the snow. Olivia has proudly given up bottles and enjoys her milk from a sippy cup at meals and “milk breaks.” Carson really enjoys art time when we fingerpaint, developing his own style that we call “slap painting” which gives the teachers plenty of exercise cleaning up the paint spots from around the room. He is very happy with the foods on the toddler menu that he can taste now. Carson sometimes entertains himself by rolling a ball and chasing it around the room. Brinley has developed a way of moving around the room on her bottom, and can pull herself up to stand at times as well. She enjoys exploring toys that are in the sensory table and four square table when she gets onto her feet. Brinley dances and claps her hands to music, whether it is a CD, or the teachers singing songs during circle time. SPECIAL DATES: Looking Ahead: In March, we will be learning about transportation and counting. There will be a lot of books read, and many songs sung. We will paint or color, and move and dance. We will continue to work on our large and fine motor skills, and learning signs and words and songs. We will spend as much time outside as we can, looking for methods of transportation and counting vehicles and people. The Inchworm Staff-- Miss Chris, Miss Susie, and Miss Nicky
Firefly News Spring is almost here and the Fireflies are ready for some fun outside. Please remember to dress your child according to the weather. We go out early and it can be very chilly. Also please label everything. The children are dressing themselves to go out and sometimes things get mixed up with the coats. If they are labeled, things are less likely to get mixed up in the shuffle. Things we did last month… The color food sorters where a lot of fun for Gracie, Easton, Reignsley, and Silas. They all know how to sort colors and most can identify them as well. Henry K., Henry T., Amira and Killian loved the boxes with doors and the keys to unlock them. These four have great small motor skills. Sebastian, Waya, Bryce and Gracelyn had a lot of fun playing with the snow. They loved adding color to it. Things we will be doing this month… Dr. Seuss Week All about the weather Gardens Farms Pets Song of the Month The Wind Is Blowing (To the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb”) The wind is blowing all around All around, all around The wind is blowing all around All around, all around the air
Chipmunk Chatter March 2021 The month of February was filled with learning about healthy foods for our bodies and our teeth. We enjoyed exchanging valentines at our party. Bluebirds Newsletter March 2021 Dear Parents, In February, we began the month by learning about polar bears and penguins. We used a globe to show that polar bears live in the North Pole and penguins live in the South Pole. We compared our height to the height of the tallest and the shortest penguin, graphed Goldfish crackers by color, and created polar bear masks. Love, Friendship, and Kindness was the theme for the following week. We asked the children what it means to be a good friend, and what we can do to be kind to others. We made a chart and sorted pictures of friendly actions vs. unfriendly actions. We read books about being a good friend, what it means to be kind, and that hands are not for hitting. Each child also worked together with a friend to create a marble painting. Since February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, we also learned about our teeth and going to the dentist. We sorted foods that are good for our teeth vs. foods that are bad for our teeth. We also did an experiment where we put an egg each in milk, soda, and vinegar. It was an awesome visual for the children and showed the importance of eating/drinking things that are good for our teeth and brushing our teeth! Then we learned about dinosaurs. We read books about different types of dinosaurs, drew our own dinosaurs, made play dough fossils, and searched for ABC dinosaur bones in sand. We even had “lava” erupt from a “volcano”, by mixing baking soda and vinegar inside a cup surrounded by playdough! Question of the Month: “What Would You Do If You Were a Dinosaur?” Amelia – “I would be a big one. I would run to Hersheypark. I would eat grass.” Blake – “I would be a Long Neck. I would eat the trees. I would watch the dinosaur eggs hatch.” Brandon – “My neck would go up high and I will roar like a T-Rex and then I will fly like a Pterodactyl.” Cash – “I would fly. I would eat grass. I would go to Hersheypark.” Jacob – “I would eat grass. I would be big.” Julia – “I would eat grass. I would like to crawl.” Kelsey – “Stomp, splash around in water. I would eat grass.” Leo – “I would be a T-Rex. I would eat coconuts. I would stomp.” Logan – “I would eat other animals, a lot and a lot. I wanna be a T-Rex. I would eat grass.” Mackenzie – “I would eat grass and I will be a good dinosaur. I don’t want to be a bad dinosaur.” Xander – “Breathe fire. I would be the one who flaps his wings. I would eat mountains. I would be a dinosaur that plays.” Zaynab – “I would ‘Roar!’ I would eat a snake, eat other dinosaurs.” Weekly Themes: March 1st – 5th: Author: Dr. Seuss March 8th – 12th: Pets March 15th – 19th: Rain/Rainbows/St. Patrick’s Day March 22nd – 26th: Spring is Here! Explorers and Investigators Newsletter In the month of February, we continued with our author study and created projects around the well-known authors Dr. Seuss and Laura Numeroff. For Dr. Seuss, we used our imaginations as we created our own ‘If I Ran the Zoo’ animals with mixed up bodies. We also made ‘Oh the Places We’ll Go’ Hot Air Balloons and shared a place we would like to go in the future or what we would like to be when we grow up! For Laura Numeroff, we baked our own cookies based off of the story, ‘If You Give a Mouse a Cookie’, and created a party for our classroom like in the story ‘If You Give a Pig a Party’. In March, we will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and even create our very own Leprechaun Traps! Hopefully we can catch him and he will leave us some Gold! Nocturnal Animals and Owls will be another topic for us as we will learn why certain animals only come out in the dark! Spring/ Easter will wrap up the end of March for us as we move closer to see a change in our season and take part in an Easter Egg Hunt!
