MONARCH NEWS FROM THE MDHS PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE THURSDAY, MARCH 18, 2021 A Catholic Education gives Soul to the World. “We give a Soul to the World through an intellectual and moral formation that supports the good things that globalization brings and corrects the harmful ones.” -Pope Francis Monarch We pray for justice, peace and reconciliation for people suffering in Prayer Myanmar, Syria, Yemen and other parts of our world. Focus For all who are suffering in any way because of the Coronavirus Pandemic For those who are sick in our community "We cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form. At the same time, we have to recognize that violence is self-destructive and self-defeating. Nothing is gained by violence and so much is lost. Let us pray for reconciliation and peace." Pope Francis "The culture of life is the heritage that Christians want to share with everyone. Every human life, unique and unrepeatable, is priceless. This must be courageously proclaimed ever anew through word and action." Pope Francis Lenten On our Lenten Journey this week, we focus on the Virtue of Love. Journey Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 In care, compassion and love we join with all people who are suffering in any way from the sin and stain of racism. We are proud of the diverse student body of students at MDHS and in solidarity with all students of all races, we again state: Mater Dei High School denounces and stands against the violence toward any community of people and embraces the diverse population of our study body and larger community. Hate and violence in any form are not tolerated on the Mater Dei campus. Spirit Dress Tomorrow, March 19th is Spirit Dress! Calendar March 31 is a Faculty/Staff Retreat Day: No School for Students Updates Please see the master calendar for all events.
Lenten This Lenten season, Mater Dei will be collecting cans of non-perishable food and/or Food Drive grocery store gift cards from now until March 29. Like our Thanksgiving and Christmas Outreaches, we will be allowing students to earn up to 5 hours (max) of Indirect Service Hours. Each bag of groceries and/or gift cards will be worth 1 hour of service (max 5 hours). Our community needs us more than ever and this is an awesome way for students to earn half of their required spring semester service hours. Thank you for your generosity. Questions?
