New for 2018-2019 One-year (two- semester) award waivers for 50% of in-state tuition and general fees at Weber State only. The Browning Scholarship Endowment scholarship is to assist future generations of mining engineers in their quest for a college education. The HSF Scholarship is designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a university degree. The Twenty-Eight Annual Poster Contest for High School students is open to students from grades 9 through 12. Seniors: The Vegetarian Resource Group. This scholarship is offered to high school students who have promoted vegetarianism in their schools and/or communities. Applicants will be judged on having shown compassion, courage, and a strong commitment to promoting a peaceful world through vegetarian diet/lifestyle. The Richards Institute provides annual "Ethics Scholarships" to incoming high school seniors committed to Weber State University. Scholarship funds assist these ethically minded students with tuition, fees, book expenses, and any other approved educational costs. The application process is as follows: 1. High school transcript including current GPA and ACT scores (unofficial copy, such as a scanned PDF is acceptable). 2. Verification of high school graduation date by high school administrator (e.g., brief letter from guidance counselor). 3. Submit a Letter of Recommendation (this can be from a teacher, community member, school administrator, etc.) 4. Ethics Scholarship Application filled out. 5. Submission of a 500-word ethics essay answering the following question: When someone asks us to think of ethical issues, we often think of significant ethical dilemmas, newsworthy political scandals, and weighty issues. Ethical philosophers from ancient times until now, however, have repeatedly emphasized that being ethical starts with the small things we do everyday. In that spirit, please write a thoughtful essay in which you write about a small episode, event, or encounter from your own experience that taught you something about the importance of ethics. The emotional strain can be devastating to children and young adults. And for too many families, an untimely death also brings financial stress, making recovery all the more difficult. Participants need to submit either a 500-word essay OR a 3-minutes video discussing how the death of your parent or guardian affected your life financially and emotionally. Be sure to describe how the loss of your parent/guardian impacted your college plans and explain how the lack of adequate life insurance coverage (or no coverage at all) impacted your family’s financial situation. This contest asks students to examine, question, and reflect on important concepts in genetics. Essays are expected to be well-reasoned arguments indicative of a depth of understanding of the concepts related to the essay question. Juniors or Seniors: PMI, Project Management Institute Scholarship. To apply for and be considered for a scholarship, please create and upload a 5 minute or less YouTube video telling a story about a project you have been involved in. Here are some topics that could be, but are not required to be, covered: • Your role in the project • Project Initiation: How did you/the team define your project? • Project Planning: How did you/the team determine what needed to get done and the course of action? • Project Execution: How did you/the team perform the work? • • Project Monitoring and Controlling: How did you/the team determine you were on track and how did you manage any issues that came up? • Outcome of the project • Lessons Learned: Did you/the team gain any knowledge during the project that you can implement in future projects? Seniors: National Federation of the Blind. This scholarship program recognizes the achievements by blind scholars. The National Federation of the Blind annually offers blind college students’ scholarships that are awarded based on academic excellence, community service, and leadership. Seniors: BYU Management Society Scholarship. Students DO NOT need to go to BYU to earn a scholarship. Here are the details: Scholarships are for students attending an accredited college or university in Utah, including trade/technical schools OR any LDS college or university. 1. They do not have to be LDS or have an affiliation with BYU 2. Scholarships can be deferred for religious or military service 3. The application must be completed by midnight, April 26,2020.
