North Park & Nearby Neighborhood Activities:

Albany Park Library​ (3401 W. Foster Avenue; M 10-6, Tu 12-8, W 10-6, Th 12-8, F & Sa 9-5):
Summer Learning Challenge: Sign-up your child for the Summer Learning Challenge. Going on
6/18-9/1. Sign-up & reporting hours are as follows: M 10am-5pm, Tu 12pm-7pm, W 10am-5pm,
Th 12pm-7pm, Fri & Sat 11am-3pm.

    ● Lego Club - Monthly challenges & free play June 20, July 18, August 15 at 4:30 p.m., for
        kids ages 6 & up
    ● Eco Craft - Make cool art with recyclable materials. June 21 @ 1:30 pm, July 3 @ 2:30
        p.m., July 26 @ 1:30 p.m., August 14 @ 2:30 p.m. Grades K & up.
    ● Eco Science - Use your awesome brain to complete Eco Science STEM challenges. June
        26 @ 2:30pm, July 12 @ 1:30pm, August 7 @ 2:30pm
    ● Tween Graphic Novel Book Club - for kids who have completed 3rd-6th grade. We will be
        discussing a new graphic novel each month. Mondays June 25, July 16, & August 13 at
        4:30pm.
    ● Art Institute Field Trip - Th July 19 at 12:45pm. Kids MUST be accompanied by an adult.
        To register, see a librarian.
    ● Beautiful Bats with Flying Fox Conservation Fund: July 14 2pm. Learning all about bats
        and get the chance to meet some fruit bats. Families with children aged 3-10 years old.
        Registration required.
    ● Brain Games with MSI Interns: July 31 & August 2 at 1pm - explore various science
        concepts through hands-on activities. For ages 7-12. Registration required.
    ● Beth Wagner presents Scales & Tales: August 9 at 2pm - meet 8 types of animals in an
        interactive show! For families with children of all ages. Registration required.

Kids Museum Passport:​ Check-out a free 7-day pass to one of the many great Chicago area
museums including the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Shedd Aquarium, the Museum of
Science & Industry, as well as suburban sites like the Brookfield Zoo and the Chicago Botanic
Gardens (discounted parking).
Ravinia Lawn Tickets:​ Starting June 9th, any adult with a CPL library card can obtain up to 2
free Ravinia lawn tickets per Words & Music concerts (up to 4 passes per day). For more info, go

North Park Community Market: ​Located in the Peterson parking lot. Created by North
Park residents (including some Peterson parents!), this market offers a variety of produce, arts,
foods, and live music. June 24, July 29, August 26, September 30, October 28 10am-2pm

Chicago Park District:​ Playgrounds, pools, and free events! We highlighted a few area parks
below, but for a complete listing, visit www.chicagoparkdistrict.com or get the “My Chi Parks”
app on your phone to find out about all kinds of events at nearby parks.

The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson, June 21 6pm-7pm - Head to your nearest park district
pool to be a part an effort to break the Guinness Book of World Records record for the largest
swimming lesson! (register online)

North Park Village Nature Center (5801 N. Pulaski/312-744-5472):
Visit the Nature Center and go for a hike and explore the hands-on nature museum, open daily
10am-4pm. To receive regular emails regarding upcoming programs at the nature center, send

   ●   City Wilds Festival: Learn about native plants and animals, hike the trails, enjoy a visit
       with the Chicago Turtle Club and PLAY at the pop up play area, using boxes, rope, hoses,
       trees and imaginations, kids can build their own playground for the day! Scales & Tales
       Traveling Zoo will present its educational and interactive live animal program between 11
       am - 2 pm. Registration not required. June 10 10am-3pm

   ●   Mindful Meditation: Surrounded by beautiful nature, sit silently and listen to your own
       voice. Mindful meditation can benefit everyone's body and mind. Bring your own
       cushions, yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing. All levels of practitioners are
       welcome. Ages 7 and up. Registration required. June 16 10am-11am

   ●   Late Great Nocturnal Night: Drop in on the last Friday of the month to visit the Nature
       Center at night. Learn about our nighttime wildlife and look for raccoons, opossums,
       skunks, and even a flying squirrel. No registration required. June 29 4pm-8pm

   ●   Theatre Hikes: Theatre Hikes' talented troupe of actors tell the stories of Ali Baba,
       Sinbad, Aladdin and more. Enjoy a fun and interactive "build-your-own-story" ending.
       Take an afternoon away to enjoy a stroll through some wilderness not too far off the
       beaten path. Theatre Hikes will take you on a journey to another time and place for an
       afternoon, all you need is your imagination. Bring a blanket or camping chair and water
       bottle. Registration required. ​The​ ​Arabian Nights ​July 14 & July 15 1pm-4pm
Peterson Park (5801 N. Pulaski):
   ● BODY CHOIR: With both physical exercise and images inspired by nature, BODY
      CHOIR is a chance for all ages and cultures in the community to connect together as one.
      This workshop is designed as a way for participants to discover they can make a
      contribution to their community; it empowers them and raises their self-esteem. July 21
      10am-12pm
   ● Movie in the Park: ​Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ​(rated PG-13) July 21
      8:14pm-10:15pm

Eugene Field Park (5100 N. Ridgeway):
  ● Music of our Traditions​ by Mariachi Tradicion Juvenil:. Mariachi Music Mariachi Arts
     and Culture Academy aims to provide opportunities for the youth to carry on the Art and
     Culture of Mexico's Folk Music by reaching out to different cultural and socioeconomic
     communities in the Chicago area. June 28 5pm-6pm

River Park (5100 N. Francisco):

   ● Family Nature Day: an interactive, nature-based program for the entire family. June 14

  ● Gompers Park Pool (check with the park for schedule)
  ● Where Rivers Meet ​by The Chicago Folklore Ensemble: a celebration of the cultural
    contributions of Middle Eastern immigrants by featuring three master musicians from
    Egypt, Iraq, & Palestine. These musicians’ personal stories will be told by storyteller
    Anita Darwish along with a performance by the musicians and a small ensemble. June 22

  ● Concert & Movie in the Park: ​Rock-It Science​ will perform classic rock & roll songs from

Jensen Park (4650 N. Lawndale):
   ● CodeCreate Cardboard Switching: Build simple animals, objects or machines out of
     cardboard and then decorate those surfaces with aluminum foil to trigger original
     computer code. June 8 5pm-7pm
   ● Cirques Experiences Wheel Jam: Take a spin on the Gymnastics Wheel! August 11
     6pm-7pm
