FORM B Part 1 Aim of the event: Education and competition are two common elements of all human values. Any kind of competition plays an important role in academic achievement because it helps students to know their strengths and improve their performance. RDIAS organizes Rangoli competition every year during Diwali not only to enhance student's imagination but also to intact our Indian tradition. Our objective is to encourage students to celebrate festivals in an innovative way. Organizing such events help students to remain in close touch with their culture. Rangoli Competitions play an important role in motivating students to perform and outshine in their creative skills. It offers a chance for participants to gain substantial experience, adopt innovative techniques, showcase talents, analyze and evaluate outcomes and uncover personal ability. Part 2 Abstract: Rangoli could be an imaginative expression of art with the usage of colors. Rangoli is a famous art form from India in which different shapes and designs are made on the floor or courtyards via materials such as coloured rice, dry flour, coloured sand or flower petals. It is usually made during festivals like Diwali Onam, Pongal etc. Rangoli is originated from the Sanskrit word ‘rangavalli’. It is a combination of two words Rang can be referred as colors and Holi can be referred as celebration. So, Rangoli is an artistic festivity of colors. There are different names for Rangoli in different regions of India. In Tamil Nadu it is termed as Kolam, likewise Mandana in Rajasthan, Chowkpurana in Chhattisgarh, Alpana in West Bengal, Aripana in Bihar, Chowk pujan in Uttar Pradesh, Muggu in Andhra Pradesh, Golam kolam or kalam in Kerala and so on. 4
Rangoli was made first time at the time of Chitralakshana. During that period, son of the King's highest priest had passed away and Lord Brahma asked him to draw a portrait of the boy, which was an exact replica of the boy. This was the first time the Rangoli design was made. In Ramayana, Ayodhya people painted Rangoli designs to welcome Lord Rama back after fourteen years of migration in the forest. In Mahabharata, this form had been used by the Gopis in their free time. It helped them rejuvenate their mind and ease away the pain of separation from Lord Krishna. Rangoli plays a very vital role in Indian tradition. The purpose of Rangoli is an adornment, and it is believed to bring good luck. Some people make it on special events or festivals. The themes were given to the students beforehand via the face book and the RDIAS portal which included: i) Crackers free Diwali. ii) Gender Equality: A pledge for parity A total of 17 teams participated in the competition and the competition was judged on various criteria’s like: Creativity, Clarity, Theme, Design and Color Combination.
