Nin is well-known as the oldest Croatian royal town and
the story of salt is tightly connected to its history. The
Nin Saltworks have continued to traditionally manufac-
ture organic salt, making the saltworks surroundings
into 3000 years of
environmentally favourable for many species of birds
that live there and enjoy pristine nature. This incredi-
bly preserved tradition has close ties with history, wars,
peace, and most of all, love of local population and their
tradition hard work on preservation of the cultural, economic and
ecological good. Just as always, salt is still harvested by
hand and produced by the sun, sea and wind. Knowl-

Nin ist bekannt als älteste Königsstadt und die Ge-
schichte vom Salz ist eng verbunden mit der Stadt-
geschichte. Das Salzwerk Nin hat sein traditionelles
Verfahren der Öko-Salzgewinnung beibehalten und

beeinflusste dabei die Umgebung des Salzwerks ökolo-
gisch so, dass sie günstig ist für viele Vogelarten, die
sich dort aufhalten und die unberührte Natur genießen.
Diese extrem bewahrte Tradition hängt mit der Ge-
schichte, dem Krieg, Frieden und am meisten mit der
Liebe der Bewohner zur Saline und ihrem wertvollen En-
gagement zur Bewahrung des Kulturguts, der Wirtschaft
und der Ökologie zusammen. Das Salz wird wie einst

durch Menschenhand abgebaut und entsteht aus Sonne,
Meer und Wind. Das Wissen um die traditionelle Produk-
tion wird innerhalb der Familie übertragen.Dieser regio-
nale Wirtschaftszweig datiert aus der Römerzeit, wovon
die römische Schleuse im Salzbecken zeugt. Das touris-
tische Angebot wird kreativ und innovativ präsentiert
durch das Salzmuseum, das Salzhaus, organisierte Be-
sichtigungen der Salzfelder, eigens kreierte Routen, die
mit der Natur und dem Kulturgut des Salzwerks und der
Stadt Nin verbunden sind, durch das Salzfestival, Tage
der offenen Tür und die Beobachtung der Vögel im Vo-
gelschutzgebiet.
Im Museum erfährt man durch alte Werkzeuge und Foto-
grafien alles über die traditionsreiche Vergangenheit
der Saline Nin. Neben den Museumsexponaten findet
sich ein Angebot an zahlreichen und originellen Souve-
nirs wie die Salzblume, Kochsalz, Badesalz, Schokolade
mit Salzblume etc.
Das Erleben der Salzgeschichte wird in der Saline Nin
das ganze Jahr über organisiert. Während der Salzern-
te, vom Juni bis zum September, wird das Erlebnis ver-
stärkt durch den direkten Blick auf die Salzbauern, die
das Geschenk der Sonne, des Meeres und des Winds ab-

schöpfen. Außerhalb der Hauptsaison wird Gruppen und
Einzelbesuchern im Salzhaus durch eine Modellansicht,
interaktive Spiele und eine Filmpräsentation der Salzge-
winnungsprozess in mehreren Trocknungsphasen und ei-
nigen Becken vorgestellt.
Im Salzhaus kann man eine Reise in die ferne Vergan-
genheit machen durch einen Blick auf die Schwarz-
Weiss-Fotografien, alte Arbeitswerkzeuge, Wagen für
den einstigen Salztransport vom Becken ins Lager. Glei-
chzeitig kann man durch interaktive Spiele und ein Mod-
ell des einzigartigen Naturreservats sowie einem Do-
kumentarfilm in kroatischer, deutscher und englischer
Sprache in die Gegenwart schauen.
