THE PRINCIPALS DESK Dear Parents I write this letter with a heart filled with gratitude. Gratitude for healthy learners and parents. With South Africa’s vaccination process now underway it gives us all hope at the end of a very long tunnel. Thankful for another successful term at Shelanti where our Hip-Hop crew, Snr Robotics team and our Honk Musical are flourishing under the direction of our wonderful trainers; Ms van Wyk, Mr. Marais and Mrs. Smith. Then especially thankful that our two new teachers; Ms. Nunes and Mrs. Dippenaar have proved themselves to be true Shelanti teachers this term. These two teachers have embraced the Shelanti culture and under their direction our grade 2 and 3 learners have thrived. Grateful for an aftercare that has been re-imagined by two very competent ladies; Ms. Redman and Teacher Sam. Their baking, arts and craft, and water days are a source of much joy to our learners. These two ladies have created an aftercare that is a home away from home. I am also grateful to all the Shelanti PTA ladies. These ladies play an integral part in the running of the school, getting news and reminders out timeously and being a constant source of support to me. Thank you ladies!! Last, but definitely, not the least my staff. Education, as we know it, has changed since last year. A year down the line, this team has adapted, will keep adapting, learning, constantly researching, attending training must mostly reflecting on strategies to ensure that our learners thrive. I want to thank all the members of my team, including our support staff; Evelyna and Johannes. I can’t do this without you. To all our Christian parents a blessed Easter and to our Jewish parents Chag Sameach. Kind Regards Deirdre Kempen
IN THE CLASSROOM Grade 1 learners are learning about loops and its application in coding. Foundation Phase learners having some tunnel fun. Grade 2 learners created their own (imaginary) wild animals using Lego and materials of their choice.

D6 RIDE AND SHARE UPDATE Dear Parents, SOMETHING NEW Ride-sharing functionality - d6 Connect What a year it has been! To look on the bright side, most of us were not as rushed as we usually are. Driving kids around was at a minimum with the restrictions on all extra-mural activities and social gatherings. All of us are hoping that the world will return to normal soon and once it does, we will be ready with the new ride-sharing functionality in d6 Connect. This new initiative creates a lift network where parents in the same community help each other out. Parents that are unable to fetch and/or drop off their children can connect with parents that are already making the trip, in the same community. You will be able to view all available rides for a specific day, decide who your child/ren will travel with, select the trip, and share the details of the trip with your child. You can track the trip on a map at any time and will receive notifications alerting you when your child has been picked up and dropped off. The success of this platform is in your hands. The more parents use it, the more you are helping your community and your school. For more information on how the platform works, please visit: https://d6.co.za/education/rides/ Those parents who want to earn revenue, will need to have a Professional Driving Permit (PDP) and an Operating License and will then receive a percentage of the fare. If you do not have a PDP a bigger portion of the fare will be rewarded to the school. Here’s to getting the school term off to a smooth and smart start. Kind Regards, D6 CONNECT TEAM
