 Join Our Free ‘Rides for All’ Family Bike Rides in Summer 2019
                                                       Chester Cycling Campaign and Sustrans have teamed up to
                                                       organise a series of free family bike rides for Summer
                                                       2019. The rides are ideal for families wanting to start
                                                       cycling together in a safe, traffic-free environment. All of
                                                       the rides can be completed easily by beginning cyclists and
                                                       by young children. All are welcome regardless of age or
                                                       ability. Trained and experienced ride leaders will be
                                                       present to answer questions and deal with any minor bike-
                                                       related problems you might have.

Trees Trail – Saturday 15th June – 1 pm start
Meet at the Greenway entrance at Northgate Pond for a ride along the Greenway, spotting the different trees in
their spring foliage.
Animal Amble – Saturday 20th July – 1 pm start
Meet at the Greenway entrance at Northgate Pond for a ride following the traffic free Greenway in both directions
for a few miles to discover the animal sculptures along the way – there’s a woodpecker, a horse and more to
find!
Bridges Bobble – Saturday 17th August – 1 pm start
Meet at the Greenway entrance at Northgate Pond for ride along the traffic free Greenway to the Dragon Bridge,
Sealand, a 10 mile round trip with a picnic opportunity along the way.
Marshy Meander – Saturday 21st September – 1 pm start
Meet at the Greenway entrance at Northgate Pond for a ride following the lovely, traffic free, NCN 5 route through
bird-rich Burton Marshes for 8 miles to Nets Café – we will stop at the café and ride back.
All Aboard the Stations Ride – Saturday 19th October – 1 pm start
Meet at the Greenway entrance at Northgate Pond for a ride to the site of Blacon Station and on to
Hawarden Station. Come with us and find the trains that are hidden on the way.

CHESTER CYCLING CAMPAIGN
                          Cycling is healthy, cheap, fast, and clean.
                          It could be a key part of solving our
                          transport problems and ensuring the
                          prosperity of Chester. Chester Cycling
                          Campaign is working towards a better,
                          greener city by making cycling a safe and
                          attractive transport option.
                          The Campaign supports the work of 20’s
                          Plenty, a national organisation formed to
                          campaign for the implementation of 20 mph as
                          the default speed limit on residential roads in
                          the UK.
                          We are also campaigning for:
                           100 km of cycle routes around the city
                           safe   routes to schools
                           better   city centre access
                           two-way    cycle flows on one-way streets
                           free   carriage of bikes on trains
                           better   bike parking facilities

Northgate Development - Public Consultation                                                                               Pedal Smart Cycle Safety Course
                                                                                                                                        Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has developed a training and
                                                                                                                                        information course for cyclists. It is based on CFRS’ operational
                                                                                                                                        experience and was developed in collaboration with British Cycling.
                                                                                                                                        Called 'Pedal Smart', it is intended to be informative and engaging
                                                                                                                                        with the aim being not to tell, teach or preach. Instead, it aims to
                                                                                                                                        get cyclists of all persuasions and abilities thinking in a more
                                                                                                                                        informed way about their personal safety and, importantly, the
                                                                                                                                        safety of others. It is for cyclists aged 14 and above.
                                                                                                                                        Pedal Smart is normally run at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s
                                                                                                                                        HQ in Lymm HQ. But in April, at the request of Campaign
                                                                                                                                        member Ken Thomas, the course was run in at Hoole Tennis Club in Mickle Trafford, so
                                                                                                                                        that people from Chester could attend easily. Some Campaign members who are very
                                                                                                                                        experienced cyclists said that they gained valuable insight into how human vision sees
                                                                                                                                        (or doesn’t see!) oncoming hazards.
