VI N T N ER G R A NT HONOREES | DAVID & K ARY DU N CAN David and Kary are the proprietors of Silver Oak Alexander Valley and Twomey, Russian River Valley, owned by the Duncan family. As Chairman & CEO, David reimagined Silver Oak by using cutting-edge technologies and was the first winery to receive LEED Platinum certification for Building Design and Construction and became the largest, certified Living Building in the world. Twomey is a specialized small producer of collectible single vineyard Pinot Noir. All of Silver Oak and Twomey’s vineyards are certified under The California Sustainable Winemaking Program, a criterion viewed as central to both land stewardship and wine quality. Kary is an accomplished medical professional and has a private dermatology practice, Duncan Dermatology, in the Napa Valley. At Silver Oak and Twomey Cellars, Kary was instrumental in the rebuild of the Napa Valley winery as a key advisor on architecture and design issues and serves as a “family ambassador” at winery events, including those that support the philanthropic organizations with which she and David are closely involved. Kary is a two-time cancer survivor from an aggressive form of MDS, or Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a rare disease in which the bone marrow fails to make enough healthy red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets. David and Kary live in St. Helena and have three college-age children: Connor, Maeve, and Jack. When not making wine, David plays guitar and sings with the Silverado Pickups, a band he co-founded with his friend and fellow vintner Jeff Gargiulo of Gargiulo Vineyards. We are honored to pay tribute to David and Kary Duncan as our inaugural Vintner Grant Honorees for Sonoma Epicurean 2022 @EPICSONOMA
