Opening Preview of Compound LB For our council office, it all started two and a half years ago. That's when the founder of Compound, Megan Tagliaferri, visited our office and explained her vision. She wanted to create a new cultural and creative complex fostering the intersection of contemporary art, wellness and community impact. She also stated that she had found the perfect spot in the Zaferia District of our council district. We immediately offered our support, and after long delays due to COVID-19, the opening of Compound was realized last Saturday. The July 31st opening event at 1399 Coronado Ave. was billed as "an afternoon of music, drinks, art and wellness workshops". Compound LB is a mixed-use Community space for everyone dedicated to art and wellness. Occupying a warehouse that previously operated as a preschool, the 6,500 square-foot building includes and art gallery, restaurant space and more! We welcome Compound to the Fourth and look forward to attending many future events in this great new space. You can check out Compound on Facebook at this link.

With two new Anaheim Street taverns (Port City and Tennessee Jacks) opening this week, we want to recognize another Anaheim Street establishment that isn't exactly new. Tuesday, August 10th, will mark the 97th consecutive year in business for Joe Jost's. The iconic 4th district establishment is the oldest continually operated tavern west of the Mississippi. They're known for having the coldest beer in town, 29 degrees Fahrenheit, the "Joe's Special" sandwich, pickled eggs and fresh roasted peanuts. The photo below was taken in 1968 when Joe Jost's was celebrating 45 years in business. Joe Jost's is located at 2803 E. Anaheim St. (at Temple) and is open from 11 am to 10 pm Mon-Sat, and they close at 9 pm on Sundays.
