Course Description
This course will help students receive advanced training to perform skills such as: hair extensions,
braiding, wigs, cutting, coloring, and other hair services. Additionally students will learn basic
electricity, and light therapy. This course will build on the knowledge and skills learned in previous
courses. Students will work to improve timing and skill level on services that are performed on the
clinical floor. Students will demonstrate competency with assignments, tests, and practical skills.

Course Objectives

        Demonstrate competencies necessary to advance to the clinical setting.

        Perform skills gained in previous courses while improving timing and skill level.

        Describe the safety and services related to electricity and Light therapy. Illustrate skill level
        and timing in haircutting, hair coloring, and different hair related techniques.

        Demonstrate and learn practical applications while working on manikins.

Grading Plan
High School Students Only –MTECH does not award high school credit. The College sends a
recommended quarterly grade for each student to their high school. Students disputing their grade
should follow the Progression Rubric in section 1.6 of the Progress Policy and Procedure. Any further
dispute regarding a letter grade may be settled by the high school, since they award the credit.
MTECH uses the following scale to convert percentages into letter grades for high school students:

Grades will be given on progress and attendance of courses completed, or currently enrolled during
the timeframe of the term.

Attendance and Progress Course Policies
Students will be required to pass this course with a minimum of 80% progress and 85% attendance.
This course must be completed by the end date.

Lab Policies
Students will be required to perform each skill according to industry-based objectives and
performance standards. Students must meet all skills and competency standards before the end of
each course. If any time is missed, it is the responsibility of the student to contact the Program
Coordinator, make a plan to complete the missed requirement; and on your own time, make-up any
missed class time and assignments. Students must verify, with an instructor, that any made up credit
and skill competency is recorded..

Each program has its own technical requirements. An orientation to technology is provided in each
program. Canvas is our Learning Management System. Please review the Acceptable Use Policy

ADA Statement
The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) provide protection of civil
rights for individuals with disabilities. MTECH does not discriminate in the recruitment, admission,
treatment, or access to its programs or activities. A student desiring assistance must voluntarily
disclose that they have a disability, request accommodation, and provide documentation of their
disability. The MTECH employee designated to coordinate compliance with the Section 504
regulations at each campus is the Academic and Career Counselor.

Canvas ReadSpeaker

ReadSpeaker is an option that is available to any student who would benefit from having a test or
assignment in Canvas read to them by a computer. No accommodation is required to use this service.
It's available on all Canvas tests and assignments. Ask a test center employee on how to access it
while testing. Headphones are required when using ReadSpeaker. The testing center has a limited
quantity available so students may want to bring their own.

Tuition
Students beginning a program while enrolled in high school and then continuing in the same program
after their high school class graduation are declared adults on June 1st of each year.

If they are continuing in the same program, they are not required to pay additional fees, but will be
charged the current hourly tuition rate for the hours left for program completion. These payments must
be made to Student Services no later than June 15th of each year. After this date, non-paid students
will be dropped from the program.
High school students who transition to adult status will receive a letter with their estimated hours for
completion by May 31st.
