You will hear people talking about the virus on the news, radio and social media The newspapers are writing stories about the virus.
What is the virus called?
A virus is a tiny, tiny particle. If it enters into our body it will make us sick. Aren't viruses pretty though?
The virus which is causing problems today is called Coronavirus
It is like a crown. ‘Corona’ means crown.
Coronavirus is like the Flu or a very bad cold. It can make you very sick.
This illness can affect your lungs and airways.
It can spread from person to person.
Can my pet get the coronavirus?
This happened only a few times but there is no proof that humans, like you and me, got infected from domestic animals. It is always a good idea to wash your hands with soap and water after contact with pets.
Where did it begin?
The Corona Virus began in China, in a city called Wuhan.
Now people have the virus in many countries, including Malta Most people who get the virus do not get sick, or get sick a little. Some people have died.
What changes has the ‘coronavirus caused?
Flights have been cancelled or postponed Schools are closed. Some people have stopped going to work.
Supermarkets accept a limited amount of people inside their shop. Visiting old people’s homes is not allowed. 1 or 2 people are allowed to enter pharmacies: the rest are to stay outside in a queue. Restaurants and bars are closed
How can we stay safe?
Wash your hands
You should wash your hands for 20 seconds How long is 20 seconds? Sing Happy Birthday TWICE!

If you have any of these symptoms:
Do not go to the doctor.
You must tell your family, support workers, or carers. Very quickly.
Call 111 or on ‘21324086’
Try to stay calm. Just because you feel ill, it doesn’t mean you have coronavirus !
What should you do if you have visited a country that has been infected with the ‘Coronavirus’?
Stay home and rest
Avoid direct contact with people around you
Contact the helpline ‘111’ if you feel symptoms
Stay quarantined
What is quarantine?
Quarantine is when a person stays at home for 14 days. People stay at home to make sure that they are not sick
Who is most at risk?
People of all ages can be infected by the ‘Coronavirus’. Older people and people who are already seriously ill are more at risk. They have to be more careful not to get the virus.
So be careful not to get the virus yourself. If you get the virus you can spread it to vulnerable people.
Staying at home can be very boring You miss running around and going to the playgrounds.
If we stay at home we can do those things again soon!
We can still find fun things to do. Can you think of any?
Play on the balcony, roof or yard What games can we play?
Call a friend on skype
