HOW TO REGISTER FEES & SCHEDULE SUBJECT TO CHANGE All prices and scheduled activity times listed in the Community Guide are subject to change. Parks, Recreation & Culture staff will be pleased to confirm prices and schedule at the time of registration. N.S.F. CHEQUES A $40.00 fee will be charged for each N.S.F. cheque. REFUNDS & CREDITS The Division reserves the right to cancel programs due to insufficient registration. In these cases a full refund/credit will be issued. Refunds/credits for any other reason are subject to approval and a 15% (minimum $5) administration fee. All refund requests must be made in writing. aquatic general information Don’t want to take the swim test each time you visit the pool? Children ages 7, 8 & 9, upon successful completion of the swim test, are eligible to pay $2.00 for a “Swim Test Passed” membership card. These children must present their “Green” wrist band on their arm to the front desk to show proof of eligibility. A “Swim Test Passed” membership will be issued where children can scan this membership at the front desk and present to Aquatics Staff to receive a Green band upon entry. Children ages 10 - 14 who wish to swim in the deep end of the pool may acquire the same “Swim Test Passed” membership to be al- lowed in the deep end of the pool. At anytime, the Aquatics staff can ask the child to re-take the swim test if they feel the child cannot demonstrate the ability to maintain the swim admission standard. City of Kawartha Lakes General Pool Rules • No person having a communicable disease or open sores on his or her body shall enter the pool. • No person shall bring a glass container onto the deck or into the pool. • No person shall pollute the water in the pool in any manner, and spitting, spouting of water and blowing the nose in the pool or on the deck are prohibited. • No person shall engage in boisterous play in or about the pool. • Running is not permitted on the pool deck. Wrist Bands: • No diving in the shallow end or small pool. Red Band = Children 6 and Under • Street clothes and shoes are not permitted on the pool deck. Yellow Band = Children 7-9 who have not passed the swim test Green Band = Children 7-14 who have passed the swim test • Appropriate bathing attire must be worn. • Any patrons under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be asked to leave. PLEASE NOTE: • Food or drink not permitted on deck. Water only please. PRESCHOOL PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS aquatic programs STARFISH Orientation to water for babies and their parent/caregiver. 4 TO 12 MONTHS To enter this level, babies must be able to hold their head up. The goals are to help babies experience buoyancy and movement through songs and play in the water and to teach the parent/caregiver age-specific water safety. DUCK Orientation to water for toddlers and their parent/caregiver. 12 TO 24 MONTHS Swimmers learn how to use floating objects for support and explore different water movements through games, songs and active water play. The parent/caregiver also learns age-specific water safety. SEA TURTLE Orientation to water for toddlers and their parent/caregiver. 24 TO 36 MONTHS Swimmers learn through fun games and songs how to combine skills, kick with a buoyant object and how to perform basic floats, glides and kicks. SEA OTTER Using games and activities, swimmers learn to open their eyes under water, further develop basic floats and glides and swim 1 metre. They also learn age-appropriate water safety skills. 3 YEARS TO 5 YEARS Swimmers are evaluated based on performance criteria and progress to Salamander once all criteria have been successfully completed. SALAMANDER Using games and activities, swimmers learn to swim 2 metres, further develop basic floats and increase their distance on front and back glide. Front swim and roll-over glide are also 3 YEARS TO 5 YEARS included and swimmers learn appropriate water safety skills such as how to jump into chest-deep water and how to use a Personal Flotation Device (PFD). Safety skills development includes water orientation, safe entries and exits and only swimming when an adult is present. Swimmers are evaluated based on performance criteria and progress to Sunfish once all criteria have been successfully completed. SUNFISH Using games and activities, swimmers learn to swim 5 metres, increase their distance using buoyant objects, increase their front and back glide with kick and develop their roll-over glide, side glide 3 YEARS TO 5 YEARS and front swim. Safety skills include deep-water skills and use of Personal Flotation Device (PFD). Safety skills development such as water orientation, safe entries and exits and always asking for permission before going near the water. Swimmers are evaluated based on performance criteria and progress to Crocodile once all criteria have been successfully completed. CROCODILE Through games and other fun activities, swimmers learn to swim 5 metres on their front and back, perform a dolphin kick and begin using rhythmic breathing. They also progress with kicking drills 4 TO 6 YEARS and increase their swimming distance to 10 metres. Safety skills include jumping into deep-water and performing surface support for 10 seconds, recognizing when a swimmer needs help and using a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) in deep water. Swimmers are evaluated based on performance criteria and progress to Whale once all criteria have been successfully completed. WHALE Through fun activities, swimmers perform a front and back swim for 10 metres. Swimmers work on developing their flutter kick and perform a distance swim of 15 metres. 4 TO 6 YEARS Safety skills include identifying safe swimming areas, jumping into deep water, swimming 5 metres, surface support for 20 seconds and return to safety, throwing assists and sitting dives.
