Page 3 of 8 Age Grade rugby in 21/22 Reminder of Age Grade rugby changes & Global Law Trials We continue to highlight the changes to Age Grade rugby for the new season, designed to prioritise player retention and safety after important stepping stones were missed in the last two seasons. The details are outlined in the Age Grade Changes document on the Return to Rugby page. This document includes the details of regulation changes to summer activity, 17- year-olds moving to the adult game, players moving up to the next set of age group rules and to combining of age grade teams. As previously detailed in the CGU, the Age Grade tackle height law has changed. The maximum tackle height at ALL age grades playing contact is now consistent at the imagined line between the armpits. For more detail click here. The Global Law Trials (GLTs) are also introduced to the Under 15 laws. Therefore, the Under 15 age group will play to them from 1st January 2022 and Under 16 and above, from now onwards. Detail of the GLTs is available here. Girls Age Grade Rugby We know girls across the country are excited for the new season. Our expert teams have developed a season’s worth of support for everyone involved across U13, U15 and U18 age bands.
Please see the Girls Age Grade Speci c Guidance listed under this link. These, along with other bespoke resources, will help on and o the pitch with bridging the rugby progressions and connections that players have lost in the last two years.
Page 4 of 8 Travel Funding update As communicated throughout the summer, there would be a small amount of funding to support travel in RFU leagues on an urgent needs basis for season 2021/22 only. We received a large number of applications and the fund was signi cantly oversubscribed. Therefore a panel, made up of Council Members supported by RFU employees, has been assessing applications over the past two weeks. Sadly, it was impossible to allocate funding to all clubs and allocate the amount requested in all cases. Clubs will be informed either way this week, commencing 23rd August, and where successful, the payment will be made by the end of the week.

Page 7 of 8 Round-Up: Future Competitions Structure Lower XVs & The Touch Union The Future Competitions Structure Implementation Group’s Lower XVs workstream is in the process of nalising the entry criteria for Lower XV entry into the men’s league structure for the 2022/23 season. The group intends to deliver the nalised criteria to clubs before the end of the year. In preparation for this, the group is advising that part of the criteria will include the performance and stability of the club’s Lower XV teams in the 2021/22 season. Being able to demonstrate the viability of the Lower XV teams for an entire season will be bene cial for any clubs looking to potentially enter any Lower XV teams into the league structure for the 2022/23 season. A reminder that all Lower XV entries for the 2022/23 season will be subject to an entry process, including ful lling the Lower XV entry criteria. The Touch Union As previously communicated, O2 Touch will be known as The Touch Union from Wednesday 1 September and a few changes will be introduced to the rules based on players' feedback. Changes will include exibility so that rules can be adapted to best suit your club or players. There will be a webinar this Thursday, August 26th, at 7pm with more information. Register here
