City Manager Weekly Update TO: Mayor and City Council Members City Commissioners FROM: Benjamin Siegel, City Manager DATE: February 4, 2021 SUBJECT: Weekly Update ______________________________________________________________________ Applications for City Commissions and Committees: Applications are now being accepted from residents interested in serving on the City Council’s advisory commissions and committees, including: Cultural Heritage Commission; Design Review Committee; Housing Advisory Committee; Parks, Recreation, Youth and Senior Services, Trails and Equestrian Commission; Planning Commission; and, Utilities Commission. Appointees will serve a term from April 2021 through March 2023. All appointees must reside in San Juan Capistrano, with the exception of two designated positions on the Cultural Heritage Commission. Application forms are available on the City’s website. Applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 12. All questions regarding the committees and commissions or the application process should be directed to the Office of the City Clerk at (949) 493-1171. Second Application Round Opens for Small Business Relief Program: Small businesses in need of relief due to COVID-19 impacts are encouraged to apply for grants up to $25,000 offered by the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA). The application portal is now open and will be accepting applications until 6:00 p.m. on February 8, 2021. Eligible applicants who submitted all necessary documents in Round 1, but did not receive a grant, will be rolled over for consideration in this second round – there is no need to reapply. Orange County Emergency Rental Assistance Program: The Orange County Health Care Agency is offering up to $10,000 in financial assistance for unpaid rent or utility bills due to the financial impacts of COVID-19. The application portal is currently open and will be accepting applications until February 28. Please see the attached flyer for eligibility requirements and application instructions. CVS Pharmacies to Provide COVID-19 Vaccinations: Beginning Thursday, February 11, CVS pharmacies across California will begin offering no-cost COVID-19 vaccinations by appointment. The initial Southern California sites will be located in the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, and Irvine with plans to expand to additional pharmacies. While not affiliated with the County distribution program, CVS pharmacies will be adhering to the same phased approach to COVID-19 vaccinations. Only residents in Phase 1A will be vaccinated at this time and must register in advance on the CVS website or through the CVS Pharmacy app.
CM Weekly Update Page 2 of 2 February 4, 2021 County Vaccine Distribution Program Update: The County continues to operate two large Point-of-Dispensing (POD) regional COVID-19 vaccine super sites at Soka University in Aliso Viejo and at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. Over 123,000 Orange County residents and workers have received the vaccine at a County POD site thus far. The County has plans to open additional POD locations in the coming weeks. Only those identified under Phase 1A, who have an appointment, will receive a vaccination at the County’s new Super POD locations. Please visit the County’s COVID-19 vaccination distribution webpage for Phase 1A eligibility criteria and for updated information on future phases. Register Now for the Othena Portal: Whether or not you are currently eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, residents are encouraged to register now for the Othena COVID- 19 vaccination scheduling portal. When eligible, you will be notified through the app or via e-mail to schedule an appointment. To receive a vaccine at a Super POD or mobile site in Orange County, individuals must register online at www.Othena.com. After registering through the online portal, individuals can access additional information by downloading the Othena app. For assistance utilizing the Othena scheduling portal, please call the County’s COVID-19 hotline at (714) 834-2000 and you will be directed to Othena technical support staff. EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM for Orange County Renters The County of Orange will offer rental households, up to $10,000 in financial assistance for unpaid rent or utility bills due to the impact of COVID-19. Accepting applications starting February 1 and will only be accepted until February 28, 2021.
