Why choose King’s Leadership Academy Hawthornes? K ing’s Leadership Academy is an 11-16 school serving South Sefton. It is a mem- ber of The Great Schools Trust, a fam- ily of five schools, who work together to deliver a character-driven, knowledge led curriculum for our students. Our Aspire Values inform all of our work. Our goal is to create successful citizens who can make meaningful contributions to our communities. Our specialism is a unique one: to make leaders and students of great character. Strong routines, high standards, a powerful curriculum A t King’s Leadership Academy, we believe in work- ing hard and the highest of standards. We start early and follow a rigorous, academic curriculum for all of our students. We expect our students to buy into our values of professionalism, self-awareness and endeavour in order that they achieve their aspirations to the maximum. Punctuality, a smart appearance and impeccable manners are key to this. We believe in the fundamental importance of good rou- tines, respectful relationships and personal integrity from all members of our community: students, staff and parents and carers. As Aristotle said two thousand years ago, ‘excellence is a habit…’ We focus strongly on the key skills of literacy and numer- acy in Foundations (Years 7 and 8) to prepare our stu- dents for the challenge of GCSE. Our curriculum is a rich and varied one. Leadership is a discrete weekly lesson, as is oracy and public-speaking. Every Thursday, our Enrich- ment Programme offers students the chance to pick from a wide range of experiences, such as Performing Arts, Baking and Computing. Our day starts early at 8.18am when we begin our Aspire Sessions and additional literacy and numera- cy sessions with form tutors. Every student undertakes a period of private reading, a key part of the school day.

We offer our students the broadest of experiences beyond the classroom. In Years 7 and 8, every child takes part in a residential experience free of charge in the Lake District and North Wales. In terms of the development of resilience and leadership, these sessions challenge our young people in expe- riences they may never have encountered before. We also strongly believe that our city and region offer an incredible resource to our school.
