Events Clean Up Australia Day! O n the usual first Sunday of March, Clean Up Australia Day was celebrated around Point Cook with many localised events under way. Point Cook Open Spaces mounted a big campaign to clean a one kilometre sec,on of Skeleton Creek running alongside Wallace Avenue which was full of dumped domes,c and industrial waste. Several community groups helped, including the Point Cook Chinese Friendship Group, who meet here at Featherbrook Community Centre. All up, 85 people volunteered during the day, and picked an astonishing 2,640 Kg of liCer. How do we know how much? Because four truckloads of rubbish were taken to the ,p and had to be weighed at the weighbridge. Point Cook Open Spaces run smaller clean up events all year round, with details to be found on their Facebook page, Point Cook Open Spaces. A big thank you to all those who helped clean up Point Cook! Wyndham Council assisted the efforts, providing a truck all day to ferry material to the ,p. Driver Bruce did a great job helping, giving up his Sunday to be available. Refreshments were served aUer the day’s work was done, provided by a Community Environment Grant from Council. Thanks to Council, and all the community-minded people who turned up and made the local environment beCer. Skeleton Creek is very grateful to be rid of all that liCer. Photo credit: Simon O’Keefe.
