OTUMUHEKE STREAM THE OTUMUHEKE STREAM in Spa Park is undergoing an upgrade, with a view to improving and protecting the area for many years to come. A project plan was created in collaboration with key partners, including the Patuiwi Reserve Trust, Tūwharetoa Maori Trust Board, Taupō District Council, Waikato Regional Council, Taupō Police and the Department of Conservation. The area is popular with both visitors and locals alike, with rising numbers impacting the quality of this culturally important location. The project will update the area with new facilities including a toilet block, changing rooms and a coffee kiosk, as well as a new bridge. The cultural and environmental significance of the site will be displayed on storyboards placed along the walking track. Both residents and visitors to the area will be able to enjoy the new development with picnic tables and signage encouraging all to take their rubbish with them.
