Friday 5th February, 2021 Headteacher: Children’s Mental Health Week Christina Jackson, BA Hons This week the children in school and at home started off Children’s Mental Health Tel: 01704 533 478 week with a virtual assembly. The theme was Express Yourself and the children Please visit our website: were encouraged to find creative ways to express their feelings and make www.kewwoodsprimary.co.uk themselves feel good. It explored finding a way to show themselves and their uniqueness and how they see the world. Across the school, the children participated in a range of activities around this theme. They have been encouraged to express themselves by participating in art, writing, dancing, singing, making something, dressing up etc and use their imagination. Some year groups played a board game that focused on emotions and encouraged the children to talk them through and give examples of when they have felt that emotion. It has been great to see the children working remotely using the Worry Button to report any issues or concerns they have. This facility enables the teacher to keep in touch with their class. Often a worry shared becomes much smaller and manageable for the children. We hope the children have enjoyed the week and focused upon taking care of themselves, staying safe and have had a wonderful week. School Dinners Still available for pupils at school Daily hot meal is available (choice A) as well as jacket potatoes (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and sandwiches / wraps and salad (Tuesday / Thursday) Any queries please contact the school office Follow us on Twitter @kewwoods
Express Yourself One of the activities the children enjoyed this week was aimed at encouraging good mental health by expressing themselves, in keeping with this week's assembly theme. The children were asked to collect personal items that represent who they are and arrange the items carefully on a table and take a photo or draw the items. We loved this idea too and it made us smile with all of the different ways the children were able to express themselves. It may be something you want to do as a family at home.
Parent’s Mental Health We wanted to take the opportunity to say ‘Thank you’ to all of our parents! You are doing a fantastic job in these challenging circumstances. We know that families are facing different challenges including working from home themselves, supporting their child and other siblings with their school work and running the household. It is important that you recognise the amazing job you are all doing in these difficult times and take time for yourselves too. There may be days when school work needs to take a back seat and that is fine. If we can provide any support please do not hesitate to get in touch. Although the poster below is aimed at mum’s, we know how all adults in the family home are supporting the children at the moment so please make sure you take care of yourselves too. You can’t pour from an empty cup!
Children’s University Credits We are able to offer Children’s University clubs that can be completed virtually at home so that the children can still gain credits. The clubs are available for critical worker children in school each day to complete at home, or for children working remotely at home. The tasks can be completed at any time. We will be sending these out weekly and there is a choice of four clubs that children can. The children are able to do as many as they wish each week. They can gain one credit per club per week. Parents should email evidence of the clubs being completed to laura.ashcroft@elevate-ebp.co.uk for credits to be allocated.
