Inchworm News
 May/Early June 2021

Dear Families,

April Recap
April was a fun month in the Inchworms room, as we learned about spring,
baby animals, and our ABCs. We read books and sang songs about spring,
animals, and talked about letters that start our favorite words. The favorite book was “It’s Easter, Duck and
Goose.” We enjoyed the warmer weather and looked for birds and squirrels and chipmunks when we were
outside playing. The babies enjoyed the tunnels and climbing blocks on rainy days. We finger painted Easter
eggs in pastel colors. We also gained a new Inchworm friend, Adalyn, and will meet another friend, Camden, at
the end of April.

Personal Achievement
Olivia is following two step commands with no trouble at all, such as “Please get the ball and give it to Carson.”
She loves to do puzzles, working hard to put the pieces into the right spots. Olivia likes to go for walks on the
sidewalk with the teacher, and has had some fun times on the playground with the Fireflies.

Carson has given up bottles in the Inchworm room and is working on putting himself to sleep in his crib. One of
his favorite toys this month was the ring stacker; he would work on putting rings on and taking them off over
and over. Carson makes sure that all of the toys on the shelves get equal time on the floor, often clearing the
shelves all by himself.

Brinley loves to play in the tunnels when we get them out, crawling through them and playing peek-a-boo with
Carson in the tunnel. She has begun to stand independently for a short time, and likes to walk with the walking
toys. Brinley especially enjoys outside time, exploring the grass and waving at anyone who walks by.

Adalyn is a very happy baby, and is having fun getting to know her new friends. She is able to sit up
independently, can move herself backwards on her tummy, and enjoys exploring the toys around the room.
Adalyn loves mealtimes and bottles.

 SPECIAL DATES:

Looking Ahead: In May, we will be learning about self-help skills and shapes. In June, we
will learn about insects and other bugs. There will be a lot of books read, and many songs
sung. We will paint or color, and move and dance. We will continue to work on our large
and fine motor skills, and learning signs and words and songs. We will spend as much time
outside as we can, enjoying the spring weather. We will be gaining one more Inchworm
 friend, William, in May.

 May 2021

Dear Parents,

In April, we learned about Life Cycles. We learned about the life cycles of butterflies, frogs, chickens, sunflowers,
and beans. We put pictures of each life cycle in order and also watched science videos that captured the entire life cycle
of a butterfly and frog. We were amazed to see how both the butterfly and frog transformed so much from baby to
adult! We also used our frog counters to measure how far we could hop like a frog and painted still life paintings of
sunflowers. “The Week of the Young Child” was our theme for the following week. We had a theme for each day of the
week too. We had “Music Monday,” “Tasty Tuesday,” “Work Together Wednesday,” “Artsy Thursday,” and “Family
Friday.” On Monday, we sang familiar songs, played musical instruments, and sang along to our favorite Pete the Cat
books. We each created a healthy vs. unhealthy food chart at the art table by cutting and pasting pictures of food from
grocery store ads on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday, we worked together with our Chipmunk pal to collect nature items
on our walk to the E-town College pond. To be artsy on Thursday, we created splatter paintings while outside on the
playground. Then on Friday, we talked about our families and drew family portraits. Then we learned about Earth Day
and Recycling. We discussed and read books about how we can take care of the Earth, practiced recycling and sorting
recyclable items, painted with recycled items, and enjoyed doing experiments with worms during our Lancaster Parks
and Recreation on-site field trip about Worms. The final theme of the month was Birds and Worms. We learned the
names of different types of birds, observed real bird nests, used our senses to explore real worms again, and followed a
picture recipe to make dirt pudding with gummy worms!

Jack – “She cares. We go to the park.”
Jacob – [“Where do you like to go with your Mom?”] “The park.”
Julia – “She plays with me. She also makes cakes for my birthday. I catch butterflies with my Mom.”

Kindergarten Newsletter (April, May & June)
In April, our themes consisted of Flowers, Planting and Earth Day. We
planted seeds and each took responsibility of our own plant and learned how to
take care of them. We also saw with our own eyes how Flowers drink water
through their stem. We put White Flowers in food coloring and slowly watched
the Flowers turn into the colors we added as it drank the water! Earth Day was
full of creative minds as we built things out of Cardboard, Water Bottles, Shoe
Boxes and Cereal Boxes. We learned that we can Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
many items to help our World!
As we approach the end of the school year, we will learn about Ocean
Animals, Dinosaurs, Camping and Cooking in the month of May. We will create
Sun catcher Jelly Fish and an Origami Whale as we learn about Animals that
live under the Sea. Cooking will wrap up our last full month as we will all
become Chefs and learn some “no-bake” recipes that we can eat and even play
with! I will also be sending home a letter as it gets closer to the middle of May asking for your child to share a
favorite recipe with us so we can create a class cookbook that everyone can take home!
June will finish out our school year before we transition to Summer
Camp! We will share what we had learned and what we will do over the
summer. We will create a class Autograph Memory Book, so we will always
remember our friends from this year!

thing you want to learn in First Grade..”

Just as flowers need water, sun and air to grow, we offer a
variety of activities that will help the children to grow in many ways! As
we prepare to wrap up the school year and plan for the summer, we try
our best to plan our activities based on the children’s interest!
As part of our commitment to social emotional development we
will work on helping the children express their disappointments, problem solve, and brain
storm with an appropriate solution. Problem solving is a very important tool we encourage
and guide the children to practice in resolving a disagreement. Helping and guiding the
children to problem solve is a work in progress. We understand that all children are different
and have different personalities. We hope that this valuable tool will also help them in their
everyday life for always.

We asked the children the following question: “What activities do you want to do
this summer at ECCC?”
Alexis: I would like to do some Tie-Dye activities and have some picnics!
Ehnay: I like all the activities we do already!
Violet: Playing the large motor activities such as “Mat Ball” and going to Doc’s for skating!
Peri: More splash day activities!
Cora: I’m excited to play more large motor games
Angela: I’m hoping we can have some “mask breaks” and playing large motor games outside and
having lots of picnics!
Grayson: I would like to have a Lego club I really like building with Lego’s!
Dominic: I like all the activities we have already but would also want to add a Pokémon club
Benjamin: I just like playing
