__________ www.stmarysschool.ca Principal’s Message: We made it! Together, we made it! We just want to thank our school community for helping us make this year the best one we could for all our students. As we look at the vast majority of Canada and the world, most children did not have a stable school year. Most schools were online- at some point and students and staff were under huge stress and anxiety. The consequences of this are significant on children’s mental health. Many children depend on the consistency, safety (physical, mental, emotional), and relationships that schools provide daily. In many areas, schools feed and clothe students as well. Without these supports there is a disconnect. Going into this year, when we were reviewing COVID rules and their practical applications in our building, our most important considerations were to keep children physically and mentally safe. We wanted our students to have as much normalcy as possible and to feel safe while they were with us. We wanted everyone to not feel the uncertainty of our collective reality, knowing that how we model ourselves speaks louder than words for our students. I hope you feel that your child had an excellent year. We are so incredibly blessed to have had such a structured, safe, and consistent year. Although we did not get to have all the assemblies, team sports, concerts, and gatherings, what we DID receive as an outcome was more important in the long run: happy, healthy, well-adjusted children who went to school every day. For that, along with your support and understanding we are grateful. I also want to thank all our staff. Behind the scenes they were nothing but excellent, positive, supportive of each other and their students, and thoughtful, and kind. We are a great team. We are blessed with the best families. In planning for September, please know that we will email each family the week before school starts, to inform of the new COVID ‘rules for schools’ that government will be determining for us shortly. The rules could change over the summer, so we will wait until that time to communicate with you. Have the best summer and blessings to you all, always. Jerelynn MacNeil A very happy Principal

Growing good corn James Bender, in his book How to Talk Well (published in 1994 by McGraw-Hill Book Company Inc.) relates the story of a farmer who grew award-winning corn. Each year he entered his corn in the state fair where it won a blue ribbon. One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbours. 'How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbours when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?' the reporter asked. 'Why sir,' said the farmer, 'didn't you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbours grow inferior corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbours grow good corn.' He is very much aware of the connectedness of life. His corn cannot improve unless his neighbour's corn also improves. So it is in other dimensions of our lives. Those who choose to be at peace, must help their neighbours to be at peace. Those who choose to live well must help others to live well, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. And those who choose to be happy must help others to find happiness, for the welfare of each is bound up with the welfare of all. The lesson for each of us is this . . . if we are to grow good corn, we must help our neighbours grow good corn. Earth Poetree The Spring Air By: Emily and Reese I can feel the warmth of the sun on my skin. I can hear the birds calls of peace. As the birds soar through the air I can hear the trembling aspen leaves ripple in the wind. I can hear the birds calls of peace. I can hear the grass meadows swaying in the wind. I can hear the trembling aspen leaves ripple in the wind. I can feel the cool breeze blow against my face. I can hear the grass meadows swaying in the wind. I can see the mountains tips shine as the sun lights the sky. I can feel the cool breeze blow against my face. I can smell the fresh flowers as they grow throughout their roots. I can see the mountain tips shine as the sun lights the sky. I can feel the warmth of the sun on my skin. I can smell the fresh flowers as they grow throughout their roots. As the birds soar in the air.

Earth Poetree By Kaleb and Cole I love the shade the trees have made I guess it’s the way god forgave. We are all connected. If a tree dies were all affected. I guess it’s the way god forgave. In sad times I look at a wave. If a tree dies were all affected. Wildlife should be respected. In sad times I look at a wave. A calming breeze helps me behave. Wildlife should be respected. The trees need to be protected. A calming breeze helps me behave. I love the shade the trees have made. The trees need to be protected. We are all connected.
Earth Poetry By, Sydney and Zoe! When we walk by the pretty lake. We see ducks flapping and bugs adapting. We can hear cars roaring and the rain pouring. We feel the grass against our palms. We see the ducks flapping and the bugs adapting. We smell the willow’s pollen. We feel all the grass against our palms. And we know the peaceful breeze is always there. We smell the willow’s pollen. We taste the fresh air on our tongues. And we know the peaceful breeze is always there. We can feel the pollen on our thumbs. We can taste the fresh air on our tongues. When we walk by the pretty lake. We feel the pollen on our thumbs. We can hear the cars roaring and the rain pouring.
