School Sport Victoria – COVID-19 Safe Plan Guidance and Return to Play Plan Version date: 22 January 2021 RETURN TO PLAY GUIDANCE FOR SCHOOL SPORT This advice is intended to support the delivery of school sport in Victoria throughout 2021. This advice is intended to be used by: • School Sport Victoria (SSV) staff • SSV Coordinators • SSV Conveners • SSV Team Vic Team Officials • State Sporting Organisations, conducting events on behalf of SSV • Participating schools in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria • Victorian Teachers’ Games event deliverers. It is intended to be used for the following events under the SSV banner: • SSV State Championships • SSV Region Competitions • SSV Division Competitions • SSV District Competitions • School Sport Australia Championships hosted by SSV • SSV Team Vic Selection Trials • SSV Team Vic Training • Victorian Teachers’ Games • Any other events conducted by SSV Up to date advice on SSV’s school sport events and competitions can be found on the SSV website. This advice aligns with advice regarding sport and the use of indoor and outdoor facilities in the Department of Education and Training’s (DET) School Operations Guide and the COVID-19 Safe School Principles. Further advice on maintaining a COVIDSafe School and explanation of these principles can also be found at Health and safety advice for schools in the context of coronavirus (COVID-19). Participating schools are encouraged to refer to the School Operations Guide in addition to this advice. This plan also aligns with the COVID Safe Plan for Community Sport and Recreation. Guidance for interschool sport also aligns with the requirements for community sport and recreation as outlined in: • Sport and recreation – Victoria – the last step • Community Sport and Recreation Industry Restart Guidelines • Public Events Framework • Restricted Activity Directions For sport specific delivery, SSV will use and align to the relevant State Sporting Organisation’s COVID19 Safe Plan. Advice to Schools • SSV will provide advice to schools for participation in SSV events which includes travel, equipment and hygiene requirements. • Schools will communicate the necessary restrictions to parents, including that additional spectators are to be discouraged. • Staff are recommended to attend SSV events with their students, to minimise risks to staff and students. • Where staff are not available, schools will provide permission for only the necessary parents to accompany students for the competition and will take responsibility for the recording of the personal details of these people. • SSV will communicate to schools on rules in relation to gathering limits, participants limits and spectators. • Educating participants, volunteers and organisers on hand and cough hygiene, including how to wash and sanitise their hands correctly. • No high fives, handshakes, or other physical contact other than physical activity permitted by the Chief Health Officer as part of the game. • Reinforcing the importance of not attending activities or events if unwell. Cleaning • Identify high touch surfaces (lift buttons, door and cupboard handles, kitchen counters, touch screens, shared equipment, taps and toilets). • Obtain information about venue/facility cleaning schedule and how to use cleaning products. • Aligned with the required cleaning standards in a school facility, please ensure that the necessary cleaning arrangements are made. Schools should provide their onsite facility manager with the Enhanced School Cleaning Guideline so that the necessary cleaning arrangements can be made. • At venues where there is an onsite facility manager, the SSV Convener will liaise with the manager to ensure facilities are undertaking their regular hygiene practices throughout the day. School Sport Victoria – COVID-19 Safe Plan Guidance and Return to Play Plan Version date: 22 January 2021 Requirements SSV Actions • At venues where there is no onsite facility manager, the SSV convener must ensure that the cleaning and disinfecting activities listed in the Enhanced School Cleaning Guideline are delivered accordingly. • Ensure cleaning and disinfection of communal facilities (toilets and communal changerooms) prior to and after an interschool sport event and high touch point areas during an event.
