Chelsea Recreation & Cultural Affairs Division The City of Chelsea Recreation & Cultural Affairs Division of the Department of Health and Human Services provides year-round recreation, continuing education, and cultural activities to the residents of Chelsea. The Division is responsible for: Chelsea Community Schools programs at local public school facilities, coordinating and scheduling the use of those facilities by local organizations during community schools hours, scheduling organized recreation events in city parks, planning and supporting arts & cultural activities, and supporting youth/adult sports leagues. The Division builds collaborative relationships with partnering organizations and responsibly manages assigned resources. In addition, the Division provides staff to the local Cultural Council, Community Schools Advisory Board, and the Youth Commission. Youth Fitness & Health Tennis in the Parks NEW SPLASH - Learn to Swim Ages 6-17. Perfect for first-time tennis players! Led by an approved US Tennis Association Net Generation coach, the Ages 6-12. In this one-week program, learn and improve program focuses on developing the skills to serve, rally, and fundamental swimming skills to gain confidence in and score! All equipment is provided. Locations are listed below. around the water. A low 8 to 2 student/teacher ratio $25 ensures that each participant receives attention at every Mondays & Wednesdays lesson. Youth Arts NEW Rock Painting: Meditation & Mandala Painting Ages 13+. Enjoy a relaxing evening meditating Little Picassos with mandala dot painting. Students will complete Ages 3-6. Students have hands on experiences with 1-2 paintings using various dot techniques that will drawing, painting, and sculpture. Use Our Facilities Chelsea Community Schools (CCS) under the City of Chelsea Recreation & Cultural Affairs Division offers community organizations affordable, safe, secure, state-of-the-art public school facilities to hold classes, meetings, workshops, and tournaments. Facilities can be used on a year-round, seasonal or one-time basis for an affordable fee. The Williams Building, located at 180 Walnut Street, is easily accessible by bus and ample parking is available. Parks Information The Chelsea Recreation & Cultural Affairs Division coordinates and issues PERMITS for groups of ten (10) or more individuals who wish to use municipal parks and athletic fields for cultural, social, and recreational activities and programs. Neighborhood parks and athletic fields are available for use from mid-April until mid- October, dawn until dusk, pending weather conditions. Athletic Field Use & Special Event Applications Permits are required to use an Athletic Field (including courts) for sports practices, games, and tournaments Athletic Field applications must be submitted at least 10 working days prior to use. Permits are also required to hold a Special Event such as a: festival, charity walk, parade, or concert. Special Event applications must be be submitted at least 45 days prior to the event.
