CHATTERBOX Panania Public School 21A Lawler Street, Panania NSW 2213 Term 2 Week 6 Phone: 9773 9017 Email: panania-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au www.panania-p.schools.nsw.gov.au 3/6/2020 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE A return to full time face-to-face learning, routine and structure has been welcomed by all. At Panania Public we are concentrating our efforts on the following action plan for learning for the remainder of Term 2: 1. Reengage with our students to strengthen relationships and harness remote learning experiences to build student confidence. 2. Refocus on student strengths and their needs, which may be existing or emerging. Track and monitor student progression and undertake formative and summative assessment to inform future planning and support all students to maximise learning opportunities. Embed differentiation and tiered strategies to support our most vulnerable students. 3. Redirect assessment and reporting to capture the learning that has taken place over the first semester. Written reports will be made available to parents and carers in Week 3 of Term 3. English and mathematics comments will reflect progression made as well as future directions. 4. Revitalise the language of the Learning Pit linked to the school based Learner Qualities: be persistent, reflective, curious, creative and collaborative. The Learning Pit illustrates how challenge leads to enhanced learning and aids students to view obstacles as a way of growing. https://cpb-eu-w2.wpmucdn.com/edublog.mgfl.net/dist/c/12/files/2016/05/learning_pit_spotlight- 1d0tqab.pdf
NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME (NSS) On Wednesday, 27 May, Panania Public School proudly supported NSS and enjoyed a shared reading of ‘Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas’ by Australian author Lucinda Gifford. NSS is a national event held each year where thousands of students simultaneously read a preselected text. It is an inclusive opportunity to celebrate and promote reading. REMOTE LEARNING Some students and their families have thrived learning from home and have gone above and beyond expectations. See the creativity and innovation displayed by Sienna McMullen in Year 4 when asked to design a chicken coop. She met the design brief and a series of functional and aesthetic sets of criteria. Great to see that shining examples of excellence have grown from uncertain times.
GRATITUDE TREE Transitioning back to school has prompted shared conversations about the things in our lives that we are truly grateful for. The importance of gratitude motivated the Year 5 students and teachers to develop a gratitude tree. Research has shown that if you live your life with a sense of gratitude rather than a sense of entitlement, you will live your best life, being happier and more fulfilled. Gratitude improves physical health, psychological health, self-esteem, confidence, sleep and social connections. ENROLLING NOW FOR KINDERGARTEN 2021 Enrolments for Kindergarten 2021 are now being accepted.
