Welcome Message The 19th National Cocker Spaniel Championship Show will be hosted by the Cocker Spaniel Club of The ACT Inc. on the 1st and 2nd July 2020. The venue for the show is the Conference Centre, EPIC Grounds, Federal Highway, Canberra. Our Club sincerely hopes that you will attend and enjoy this event. Our aim is to provide not only a great show but a social event for Cocker Spaniel owners, breeders and enthusiasts to get together, enjoy each other’s company, showcase our dogs and share information. The National has been organized to coincide with the EPIC International Weekend, so as to give those travelling a chance of not only exhibiting under a Breed Specialist but also an International panel of Judges over the five days of competition. We hope that you will find this information booklet of assistance to you. Should you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact any of our Organizing Committee listed under Contacts. This information booklet is a ‘living’ document and will be updated as more information comes to hand. Please check regularly. Amendments will be listed on the amendment page in the front. Updated versions of this information booklet will be posted on the Cub’s Facebook page as additional information becomes available. Alternatively, for those who don’t use Facebook send an email to Amanda Bray (braycharm@hotmail.com) to request to be added to the email list to receive updates. We look forward to seeing you all at the National.
Judges Resume The judge for the National is Mr David Todd “Chataway”. David Todd – Chataway Kennels UK My name is David C. Todd of the Chataway Affix. I live near Edinburgh in Scotland at the top of the United Kingdom, famous for Whiskey, Haggis, Nessie and Kilts!!! My Journey in dogs started in 1975 when we purchased a family pet Cocker spaniel. She was Blue roan and became my constant companion around the Border Village of West Linton. The Village lay host to Margaret Struthers of Daydawn Cockers and we became friends and I ended up helping in the Kennels during my Holidays and at weekends. From this Kennel a Golden boy Daydawn Drambuie became my first Co-owned Show dog and we had some modest but delightful wins. He was used by a few breeders and I bought in a Golden daughter of his as a foundation bitch...she produced my first Sh Ch C. The News Editor. During this time I found a two week stint at the Lynwater Kennel becoming a ten year working relationship and then friendship to this day. For the Lynwater Kennel I made up champions in Blue roan, Golden (including BIS at The Cocker Spaniel Club), Orange and white (wins included BOB and Group1 at Crufts) and Liver Roan. For myself I have had Show Champions in Black, Blue Roan and Golden. I Breed both Solids and Partis. I also, being a dog lover, have owned and bred other breeds making up Ch and Sh Ch in Parson Russel Terriers, Kerry Blue Terriers, Beagles, Hungarian Vizslas, Curly Coated Retrievers and Labradors and handled 2 Pointers to their titles. I have awarded CC's on Numerous occasions including The Cocker Spaniel Club - in Cockers and also award CC's in Vizsla. B listed for Labs, Pointers, Parsons and Kerry Blues. I have included a photo of my 2 latest Sh Champions Lynwater Classic Design and Glentree Tradition. I like to breed but when I see a super pup in the nest its hard not to be tempted...................... These two boys are at home with me and 2 Curly Sh Ch and some promising daughters from both boys......... Thank you for your consideration David
Our Assembly Steward Jackie Knowles I bought my first cocker in 1993, we had just returned to the UK after living in India, and I just wanted a pet! We then moved to Ireland in 1996, where we decided to let her have a litter of babies, I was very fortunate when I contacted the then Secretary of Dublin Cocker, as she had a light blue Courtmaster dog that she allowed me to use. We had a beautiful litter of 8, from which we kept 2, and so it started!! We were privileged to have had dealing with many of the Top kennels in the UK Wiljana, Bitcon, Courtmaster, Terriles! I was also honoured to be Secretary for Dublin cocker for 12years which I loved. Over the years with our 3 daughters we have shown various breeds, English Springers, pointers, Vizlas, Norfolk Terrier, but today you will find me at the Hound Ring with our PBGV'S! We along with 7 of our dogs emigrated here in 2010, in 2015 we became Australian Citizen's enabling us to call Australia our home! I would like to wish you all an enjoyable and successful day and thank you for allowing me to be involved in this wonderful event. Jackie Knowles

ACCOMMODATION The information is supplied by our local dog clubs which on their recommendation may change occasionally. Many past opportunities for accommodation were lost when privileges provided by hotels, motels and private accommodation were abused and tenants’ responsibilities were ignored or blatantly disrespected. We as exhibitors, show & event management, dog owners and fanciers need to respect the existence of these facilities and ensure that they are available beyond us and for the next people who need to use them. Camping There are powered sites within Exhibition Park (EPIC) a short distance from Dogs ACT Canine Complex. The sites are maintained by the showground authority and thankfully they allow a discounted rate for dog show exhibitors on those specific weekends. From 1 January 2017 the fee is $30.00 per night. Bookings are through Dogs ACT on behalf of clubs & the showground authority. Please phone (02) 6241 4404 to book Dogs ACT hours are 9.30am to 2.30pm Tuesday to Thursday. Please phone 02 – 62414404 or email admin@dogsact.org.au All camping must be pre-booked and preferably pre-paid. Rates are $30.00 per night. You must contact Dogs ACT to book powered and water sites also, please talk to office about your requirements at time of booking. IMPORTANT – If there are no campers pre-booked before the show/event weekend, then power and showers facilities will NOT be available. The Pet Friendly Accommodation in Canberra has kindly provided us with a list of animal friendly accommodation in and around Canberra and was last updated in January 2017 Caravan Parks Riverside Caravan Park, Queanbeyan Exhibition Park (EPIC), Flemington Rod, Mitchell. 19th Cocker Spaniel National Show Page 1

Electrical Information All electrical appliances and extension cords must be tested & tagged by a qualified electrician prior to being used at the grounds Exercising Dogs / Off Leash Area There is plenty of grass areas throughout the venue, however, we ask all exhibitors to ensure they clean up after their dogs. Failure to do so will jeopardize us and other clubs using the venue in the future. Exhibitor Bags Your exhibitor bag/welcome pack will be available on Wednesday 1st July and will include your catalogue. Exhibitor Set Up Areas Details to be advised Grooming There will be a designated Grooming Area with plenty of Power Points with mats to protect the floor. Please make use of this area. If you have a dog which requires grooming, stripping or trimming and you wish to groom outside of the area, you MUST bring a mat or tarpaulin to place only under the dogs grooming area. These MUST be emptied of all grooming products OUTSIDE the respective pavilion. We have been advised that the upkeep of the carpet is difficult & the past years has seen DOGS ACT receive a large cleaning bill to remove the hair & trimmings. We would like to continue to provide you with the benefit of the carpet tiles but YOU must also play your part. Higher cleaning costs would result in higher entry fees & DOGS ACT would like to keep them down For those people wishing to have Salon Grooming Facilities we have the use of a fully equipped grooming salon between 4 p.m. & 7 pm Tuesday 31st June & 4 p.m. - 7 pm Wednesday 1st July. The owner will very kindly allow people to make use of her salon, which has two baths, several dryers & tables etc. You will need to use your own products. The cost will be very reasonable but, will depend on the number of people making use of the salon & the time it is in use. Please ring Wendy Drekovic to indicate your interest & to book a spot – 0428414099 - bookings are essential. 19th Cocker Spaniel National Show Page 8
