Chairmans Address John O’Hara. Dear Friends, It is with great pleasure I welcome you on behalf of the officers and committee of Bonniconlon Show and Gymkhana to our 69th show. Building on the success of last year’s event, the show attracted a huge attendance with average weather conditions. The show is designed as a platform to present all aspects of Irish culture and agriculture for town and country alike. Our show is now rated as one of the best events in the country with entertainment for young and old. This event would not be possible without the generosity of our sponsors for their outstanding support over the years and who still support us in what every way possible even in these hard times. To them we say “Go raibh mile maith agaibh” It is, without question the continuous commitment and tireless efforts of the exhibitors and competitors who have supported us over the years. Thank you to Superintend Joe Doherty and staff of Ballina Garda Station & our local Garda. Our judges, Civil Defence, I.C.A., Rally Marshalls, Foroige, G.A.A. Tidy Towns, Mayo County Council, our hard working Secretary, Gerry and his helpers. A special work of thanks to our land owners and anyone inconvenienced because of our show. And last but not least our hard working stewards from far and near who work tirelessly for weeks before and after the show to make it the successful event it is. A big” Thank You” to our vet on call for the day Fintan O’Donnell, to our local Solas team, Rural Social Scheme and Tus and their supervisors Paschal Tuohy, Gerry Murphy and Elizabeth Fair. We are delighted to host the All Ireland Super Suckler Cow and Calf Championship with a prize fund of €3500. This competition will be judged as a loose pening competition. I would like to thank the Irish Charolais Cattle Society for hosting and collecting the sponsorship for this competition. This year the show committee has decided to move our showing classes for cattle and sheep to a new and better location. Hopefully it will be better for exibitors and spectators. We are delighted to host the All Ireland Home Cook final at our show, finalists from each province will participate along with a qualifier which was chosen from the ploughing championships in 2017. Mayo Enterprise Board is inviting food companies to display their products in the Marquee again this year. On behalf of the committee I would like to extend sincere sympathy to all families who have lost loved ones in the past year. I would like to remind people that safety is something that we have to be very aware of. I appeal to you all, be it spectators or exhibitors to acknowledge the directions of our safety officers and stewards, notices and public announcements. On behalf of all involved we wish you an enjoyable day at our show and a safe journey home. Hope the sun will shine. Thanks, John O’Hara “This project has been funded by the Mayo North East LEADER Partnership Co Teo LEADER Programme of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development through the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government and the National Development Plan.” 1

QUALIFYING ROUNDS (QUALIFIERS) Qualifying rounds will take place at eligible shows selected by the Irish Shows Association. C. RESPONSIBILITY OF SHOWS HOLDING QUALIFYING ROUNDS a. Selected shows should hold a separate class for each qualifier from which the highest placed animals will qualify. b. The qualifier class should be held as the first (1st) class in the relevant section of the show. c. Shows must ensure that the qualifiers are held strictly in accordance with the relevant rules. d. No other sponsor may be involved in the qualifying classes. e. Shows may charge an entrance fee for each qualifying class. The I.S.A. will award a rosette to the successful animal(s). f. No show may hold a qualifying class for any championship in the day of the final. g. Show Secretaries must forward completed result cards, together with appropriate fees to the Irish Shows Association within three (3) days following the holding of the show. N.B. Shows must return results card marked “No Qualifier” for any or all of the events for which no animal (or exhibit) has been selected. D. RESPONSIBILITY OF EXHIBITORS a. Winners of qualifiers are themselves responsible for entering their animals (or exhibits) for the final in accordance with i. and j. above, within one hour of qualifying. c. Winners of qualifiers will compete in the final. d. The Irish Shows Association in conjunction with the sponsor reserve the right to alter or amend the rules of any competition as may be necessary or appropriate. e. Shows and competitors must contact the I.S.A. for details of any championships and not the sponsor involved. f. Objections must be lodged in writing with the I.S.A. representative at the show or the Show Secretary within half an hour following the completion of judging, together with a fee of 50 euro, or other stated fee, which is refundable in the event of the objection being upheld. 5
E. RESPONSIBILITIES OF SHOWS HOSTING CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS a. Championship finals must start no later than 3pm on the day of the show and the advertised time of starting must be adhered to as far as practicable. If necessary, other show classes should be either postponed or relocated to allow for this. NOTICES OF INTEREST TO CHAMPIONSHIP PARTICIPANTS IRISH LAW (EU DIRECTIVE) Under Irish Law all horse moving from one location to another must be accompanied by their passports. It is in your own interest to ensure this is the case. Failure to do so is an offence under Irish Law and is liable on summary conviction to result in a fine up to €3000. All passports must be registered with the name of the current owner. u Embryo Transfer: Where a foal is produced by this method the dams passport must bear a declaration dated, stamped and signed by the stallion owner (or accredited practitioner where AI is involved) station the date on which the dam was last covered (or inseminated) and the name of the covering stallion. u The owners of Champions and Reserve Champions are invited to submit the animals’ passports to the I.S.A. head office where the placing will be endorsed and officially stamped with the seal of the Irish Shows Association as a permanent record. u It is in the interest if shows hosting championship finals that photographs and results are forwarded to the Irish Farmers Journal immediately following judging. Important Notice to Animal Owners involved in showing animals The Irish Shows Association would advise all Animal Owners who have their Animals Insured to have the Insurance Cover extended to cover them while showing Animals at Shows, we understand that it costs very little or nothing at all depending on who you have insurance with. If you are one of the few who don’t have cover we would advise that you think about putting it in place for this purpose it may be well worthwhile. The reason for us giving you this advice is to protect yourself in the event of your animal lashing out, and injur- ing someone or damaging someone’s property, if that were to happen, and it is established that your animal was out of your control you may be held responsible, or partly responsible for any injury or damage caused & may end up paying all, or part of any settlement reached. Best wishes to Bonniconlon Show Meet our Local Enterprise Team at the MAYO.IE tent 6
