CVCC P Page 2 President’s Message President’s Message Dear Members, CVCC September/June 2020/2021 season is about to end. During this difficult year CVCC was able to meet weekly for Monday morning PS sessions and twice a month for our regular meetings on Tuesday evening. We also welcomed several new members, talented and enthusiastic photographers. On-line meetings unexpectedly brought new opportunities to invite speakers from all over the country and all over the world. CVCC had a People’s Choice Competition and took many awards at the recent Tri-Club Competition with Western Reserve Photography Club and Erie Shores Photographic Society. Congratulations to all CVCC members for their participation, enthusiasm and dedication to the art of photography! The CVCC planning meeting for our 2021/2022 season is coming up, so please think about your future involvement and roles you are ready to assume in order for our club to move forward. Almost all current Club officers: President and Vice President, Treasurer and Competition Chair are retiring after 2 years of ser- vice. The CVCC Bulletin is a great resource for everyone thanks to our Editor Teresa G. I hope someone else will step forward and take over this role, so CVCC members will continue getting the monthly newsletter. CVCC P Page 3 President’s Message President’s Message This year created a need for a new role – Zoom administra- tor, which was performed admirably by Les Greenberg. He also had the job of managing and displaying files submitted by our members for evening meetings, so that we could all see them. Program planner or planning committee is usually responsible for inviting and scheduling guest speakers. These speakers, photographers and educators, inspire us to learn, experiment and create. Unfortunately, this year CVCC did not have an officer for this role. As I was reaching out for advice, many of you helped by giving me names of potential speakers, however it was still my responsibility to make all the arrangements. On behalf of all members I thank everyone who stepped for- ward to make a presentation, recommend an activity, helped to select images for tri-club competition and contributed to CVCC functioning! I am looking forward to 2021/2022 season under new management!!! CVCC 12 LINKS TO LEARNING MAY 2021 PHOTOGRAPHY Videos recommended by Skip Kremer Secrets of color-grading in Photography with Joanna Kustra (1 hr 18 min) SK Joanna Kustra is a photographer and color grader based in Spain. Following is a link to her Masterclass in Color Grading. In it she covers Color Theory, Compo- sition, Processing in Photoshop and much more. This is a professional quality learning tool that is a must watch for all interested in portrait photography. But the Color Theory principles extend to many other genres as well. (1 hour 18 min) Ted Forbes discusses Saul Leiter, one of the great pioneers of color photography. Leiter worked in fashion photography in NYC during the 50s and 60s, but he is best known for his personal work as a street photographer. His style includes an intricate level of layering and abstraction, often with muted but complemen- tary colors. (21 min) Danie Bester speaks in detail of the work of Ernst Haas, a photojournalist and color photographer whose work spanned 1940 to 1986. Like Saul Leiter, Haas liked to work with layering and reflections. He mastered a technique of ab- stracting and blurring his subject by using slow shutter speeds. (1 hour 20min). CVCC Bulletin Page 13 LINKS TO LEARNING MAY 2021 PHOTO EDITING SOFTWARE & Adobe Camera Raw: Enhance your Raw files easily in Photoshop or Lightroom Develop Module Digital Camera World (10 min) How often do you open up a freshly captured photo with great antic- ipation, only to be lightly underwhelmed by the image on-screen? Colors can look dull, highlights washed out, or shadows too deep. However, it’s easy enough to enhance these details, add punch and create an image that looks more like the actual scene, as you remem- bered it when you took the photo. Take Camera Raw and Lightroom offer all the tools you need to carry out these enhancements. But while the interface is intuitive and sim- ple, the tools aren’t all immediately obvious. So in this tutorial we’ll explain how to make a series of powerful tonal adjustments that you can use to boost any image – whether it be one that you’ve just cap- tured, or a shot with uncapped potential that’s languishing in your image library. We’ve used the Adobe Camera Raw plugin in Photoshop CC to edit our image here, but you’ll find near-identical tools in Lightroom’s Develop Module, if you prefer. The skills here can be used to coax all kinds of images into life. 2020 - 2021 http://chagrinvalleycameraclub.com/ May, 2021
