GERI MATTEUCCI Fletcher & Karen Mulvaney MARY BEAUDETTE Ed & Sheila Malone RON SIMONEAU Bob Simoneau MICKEY ELLIOTT Mike Trudnowski EMMETT SULLIVAN Mary Sullivan A WORD ABOUT THE WORD Do you remember a Quarterback for the Denver Broncos named Tim Tebow? He made national headlines not only for his playing ability but also for his faith. Under his eyes he would often write the scripture abbreviation John 3:16. Growing up I would often see people at various sporting events holding up the same bible reference. Why is this verse of Sacred Scripture so important? Today’s gospel reading is that very same verse. It is a primary gospel message and it is short and powerful. It reminds us that God gave us His only begotten Son and to believe in Him. (Incidentally, begotten is a term which means of the same essence). However there is more to that passage which is often not quoted or painted on faces and signs. It is this: “people preferred darkness to light”. This ties in well with the other two readings. In Chronicles we read that people kept adding sin upon sin and disregarded God in their lives. This led to years of captivity and the temple being destroyed. St. Paul tells us that even while we were doing stupid, sinful things, God loved us and sent Christ Jesus for us, to remind us that we are God’s handiwork and to walk as children of the light. As we look at today’s society and the news, or movies or television shows, we can plainly see the sins and vices of humanity openly displayed. We see our Church and beliefs mocked and ridiculed, and if some- one tries to live a virtuous life, then they are considered out of touch or more “holier than thou” etc. How sad is this? The words of our Lord have come to pass. People would rather live their lives in the darkness of sin, then to live in the light. Mr. Tebow had it right in trying to remind this generation that “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life”. So, if you have been wandering in darkness, if you have felt alone and wounded by bad choices, if you are just tired of being tired, then it is time to walk in the ‘Son-shine’ and allow the Light of Christ to melt the sin in your soul. Aren’t you ready for a change…Something to think about…May God richly bless you always… 3
THE NICENE CREED I believe in one God, the Father Al- mighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God; begotten, not made, con- substantial with the Father, through Him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, (please bow your heads) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, He suffered death and was buried; and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified; who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins; I look forward to the resurrec- tion of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. THE APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, (please bow your heads) who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. 4

HELENA’S LENTEN PROJECT 2021 The Cathedral is partnering with The Julius Foundation (TJF) for its Lenten Project 2021. Since electricity was recently brought to Holy Trinity Secondary School (HTSS) in Uganda, the nearby village of Kawango would also benefit by having electrical lines extended to their house- holds and small businesses. The estimated cost of extending power lines is $15,000. The Science Lab project at HTSS is halfway completed; when construction begins again $13,600 will be needed for completion. “We deeply appreciate the Cathedral, TJF and all generous people who make these projects possible.” - Fr. Julius Bwowe. Tax deductible do- nations may be made online at www.thejuliusfoundation. org or by addressing a check to The Julius Foundation and placing in the collection or mailing to 3312 Dunlap Drive, Helena, MT 59602. 6
