AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM GUY Shalom, After 16 months of limited social interaction, uncertainty and many challenges, we look forward to welcoming our campers to the Camp Kinneret season of 2021! Our staff have been working hard since January to develop programs that resonate, inspire and bring out the best in our campers and we are confident that this will be the BSE - BEST SUMMER EVER! With this Handbook, our goal is to help you prepare for the summer and to also stress the importance of ensuring that each and every person that enters our site is, WITHOUT A DOUBT, virus-free. This will be our best chance at maintaining a healthy camp community throughout the season. All members of each family need to be vigilant and do their part to ensure that our campers and staff enter camp without the Covid-19 virus. Please note that based on the current public health protocols (at May 25), if one camper is positive, their entire cohort of campers and staff will be sent home. This is why it is very important for the entire family to properly isolate before the summer. ALL IT TAKES IS ONE CASE OF COVID-19 TO PUT OUR ENTIRE COMMUNITY AT RISK AND JEOPARDIZE THE SUMMER FOR ALL OF OUR CAMPERS AND STAFF. Because of this, we ask that all parents and campers carefully review and follow all of the protocols and directives that are outlined in this Handbook and contact office@ckb.ca if you have any questions or concerns. Chazak v’Ematz! With Strength & Courage! Guy Director Camp Kinneret-Biluim

COVID-19 CONSIDERATIONS VACCINATION All campers who live in jurisdictions where the vaccine is available to them are strongly encouraged to vaccinate. While vaccination is not a requirement this season, our health professionals have made it clear that vaccination, coupled with our stay-at-home isolation period and a negative PCR test, will protect our campers and significantly increase the chance of not having anyone with Covid at camp this season. STAY-AT-HOME ISOLATION PERIOD All campers and their families will participate in a five day stay at home isolation period prior to their arrival at camp. During the stay-at-home period, campers and staff will be instructed to restrict contact to members of their household only. While we understand that other members of the camper’s household may not be able to avoid work or grocery shopping for 5 days prior to their camper attending camp, we do ask that they pay extra attention to masking, washing, and hand sanitization during this time and choose to shop for food and other things online. If it is absolutely necessary for the camper or family member to leave the house during this period of time (like when they need to leave home to take their PCR test – see below), they are expected to follow all public health measures including wearing a mask and maintaining social distance from others. INTERNATIONAL STAFF AND CAMPERS will be required to follow all government guidelines found here: https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid. The isolation period will be required of all international campers as well. COVID PCR TEST PRIOR TO CAMP COVID All campers will be required to show proof of a PCR test taken up to 72 hours prior to their arrival at camp. Campers from MONTREAL can take their test at all Public Health testing sites. To find a location in Quebec for your PCR test, please click here and then enter your postal code: https://cv19quebec.ca/s/?language=en_CA Campers from the GTA can register for their test here: https://calendly.com/shoppersdrugmart/camp-biluim-kinneret-pcr-appointments and then show up on time with their OHIP card to: Shoppers Drug Mart: 1084 Wilson Ave (corner Keele & Wilson). The test result must be uploaded to your campers’ CampMinder account by midnight on the day prior to the campers’ arrival at camp. Campers who have not uploaded their negative test result to CampMinder will not be allowed to board the bus or enter the camp. Campers who test positive will not be able to join us at camp until they hear from our camps’ Health Team who will determine a safe way for them to return to camp once they are healthy. A SECOND PCR TEST will take place on day 5 following the camper’s arrival at camp.
BUBBLE: Our camp will operate in a bubble this season. As such, we have cancelled our Visitor’s Day and our Rishonim Weekender Program. Unfortunately, this also means that we will not be able to run any of our trips (Waterslides, Canoe Trips, LIT Trip, etc…) and that intercamp competitions are also cancelled this season. All of our staff will take their days and nights off in camp. Visitors that are necessary for the functioning of camp, including doctors, maintenance staff, outside service providers and contractors, will be required to be vaccinated prior to camp, remain outdoors as much as possible and must be masked and socially distanced from others while at camp. If it is necessary for contractors or service providers to enter camp facilities or buildings, those areas will be cleared of campers and staff for the duration of the service visit. VIRTUAL VISITOR’S DAY: Campers that are registered with us for the entire 6-week summer will be afforded the opportunity to communicate with their parents via telephone if they like and this would take place throughout the week of July 26. Parents will receive an email in mid-July giving them the opportunity to register for a specific time slot. DAILY SCREENING At the start of each session, staff and campers will be taught how to self-screen, what symptoms need to be reported and where they should go if they are experiencing symptoms. Cabin staff will screen their campers daily at wake up and bedtime. All staff will be trained to be vigilant in identifying symptoms. Any camper or staff member who is not feeling well will be assessed at the infirmary. COVID-19 ASSESSMENT An outdoor assessment centre will be set up on the back porch of the infirmary where campers/staff experiencing COVID-19 symptoms can be assessed by our medical team. The nurse will be aware of documented seasonal allergies or pre-existing conditions that are not COVID-19 related (e.g. chronic runny nose/congestion/migraines) before determining subsequent assessment, isolation of the individual and/or testing for suspected COVID-19 cases. IF A CAMPER TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19 the camper will remain isolated on-site in one of eight loge units that we rented for this season which are outfitted with a bed, sink, toilet and air conditioning. The campers’ parents will be contacted and asked to pick up their camper as soon as possible. Campers from Montreal and Ottawa must be picked up within 6 hours while campers from the GTA are asked to be picked up within 24 hours. Please be sure to have a “COVID-19 plan” ready before you send your campers to camp for the summer. This means that you, or a family member/friend will be available to pick them up at any point during the season. IF A PERSON FROM A COHORT TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19 the parents of the campers in the COVID-19+ campers’ cohort will be informed that someone in their cohort has tested positive. Due to privacy laws, the exact identity of the COVID-19+ person will not be shared. The cohort will be isolated and possibly tested and public health will provide further direction. WHAT IF THERE IS AN OUTBREAK? An outbreak of COVID-19 will be defined by the local Medical Officer of Health. Public Health will direct testing and associated management of all those impacted.
Public Health will provide direction to help manage the outbreak and any additional control measures that will need to be implemented, including defining the outbreak area (i.e. the affected cohorts or the entire camp community). COHORT: For the first two weeks of camp, campers and staff members will be in a cohort with the other members of their age group. Each cohort will consist of two cabins or 24-32 campers and their staff. As long as they are within this cohort, campers will not need to wear masks or be socially distanced from each other. Each camper will travel with their cohort together to activities and meals. Waterfront time and showers will also be scheduled for each cohort. AFTER TWO WEEKS, assuming all goes well, we should be able to enjoy some of our regular all-camp programming! SOCIAL DISTANCING & MASKING: While with their cohorts, indoors or outdoors, campers will not have to remain distanced or masked. Outside of their cohorts, all campers and staff will wear masks when they are indoors. Masks will only be required outdoors if 6 feet of distance cannot be kept between cohorts. CAMP WILL PROVIDE DISPOSABLE MASKS FOR ALL OF OUR CAMPERS SO PLEASE DO NOT PACK ANY MASKS. CHUGIM (ACTIVITIES): This season our campers will experience a variety of chugim with their cohorts. When possible (and weather permitting), camp activities will be held outdoors. Each cohort will be able to experience the waterfront during one or more of their chug periods each day. SANITISATION: Campers will be reminded to wash their hands upon leaving and entering their cabins and hand sanitizer will be provided at all activity areas. One staff member per cohort will carry a backpack at all times that contains hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray or wipes to sanitize activity tables/equipment before and after use. Sanitizer and all cleaning products are approved by Health Canada for use against COVID-19. INFIRMARY: This year we have added an additional nurse and infirmary administrator to our on-site medical team and our camp doctors will continue to run clinics on a daily basis. FOOD SERVICE: This season we will serve meals in shifts from our Chadar Ochel (Dining Hall). By serving meals in shifts, tables will be sufficiently distanced so that campers and staff can travel between tables and remain appropriately distanced while they eat. As always, all dietary needs and restrictions will be accommodated. LAUNDRY is done once each week. Clothing should be colorfast as it is machine laundered and every item should be well labeled/marked. Labels are available through our website via the CampMinder login. 20% of the proceeds from the sale of these labels will benefit our Camp Kinneret Scholarship Fund. All campers will have the opportunity to claim lost and found articles during the summer and at the end of each camp session. Please refer to our packing list on the last page of this booklet. TUCK SHOP & SPENDING MONEY A portion of the camp fee is allocated to cover expenses such as tuck (treats), the camp t-shirt, the LIT sweatshirt and camp photograph. We will bill you for any medical expenses (prescriptions) incurred over the course of the summer and send you the receipts
so that you can make a claim with your insurance company. Personal spending money is not necessary this season as we will not be able to take our campers out of camp. BIRTHDAYS AT CAMP We are excited to celebrate birthdays at camp! Each camper with a birthday during the summer camp season will receive a freshly baked cake that is large enough to share with his or her cabin mates. If you wish to send a gift, please refer to our package policy. Parents are given the opportunity to speak with their child on their birthday. Arrangements for this can be made by emailing our office (office@ckb.ca) the day before the birthday, so that we arrange the time for the call to be made. Usually, the ideal time for this call is following breakfast at around 9:30am. MEDICATION – IMPORTANT Our infirmary is fully stocked. Please do not pack standard over the counter medications like Tylenol and Advil. The only medication campers should bring to camp are those that are required to manage an existing medical condition. These medications must be blister packed by your pharmacist and each ‘blister’ must indicate the name of your camper, the medications being taken, and the date and time of day that the medication should be administered. The majority of pharmacies will blister pack medications at no cost. They may require a week or two to prepare the blister packs so please be sure to inquire with your pharmacist and plan accordingly. Please only send the amount of medication needed for the summer camp session(s) for which your camper is registered. 1st Session July 6-August 1, 2nd session August 2-17, Full Summer July 6-Aug 17. First session Campers from Montreal are asked to drop these medications off on July 4 when they drop their bags off at the old Wagar High School (see ‘Baggage section of this handbook). Campers from outside of Montreal and second session campers are asked to hand their medication to the designated staff member upon arrival at camp. COMMUNICATION NO CELL PHONES! – Campers can bring a device that plays music as long as they cannot connect to the internet or play videos or games. If a camper is found in possession of a cell phone or any device that is capable of doing any of these things, the device will be confiscated and donated to a local shelter. There will be absolutely no exceptions to this rule. FIRST TIME CAMPERS will receive a phone call from their campers' unit head within the first 72 hours of the camp session. The purpose of this call is to provide you with an update on how your camper has adjusted to camp life. CAMPMINDER When you registered your camper(s), you established a CampMinder LogIn password. To view photos, and send emails to your camper(s), please use this same password and use internet browsers CHROME or FIREFOX. To Log In, simply click on the blue CampMinder Log In button which is found on the top right corner of our website www.ckb.ca. The system has a security feature that will only allow recognized email addresses to gain access to the system. If the system does not recognize your email address please let us know by contacting office@ckb.ca, and we will update your email address in our settings. SENDING MAIL TO YOUR CAMPER: Campers look forward to receiving news from home and
we urge you to write your campers regularly. We encourage you to write your camper by email using our CampMinder system. When you enter CampMinder and then click on Camp InTouch, you will find the email link and the system will guide you through the process of purchasing “CampStamps” (in US currency) to send emails. Each email will use a certain number of CampStamps based on the selections you make. We batch print the emails once each day at 10am from Sunday to Friday and the emails are delivered to our campers right after lunch. Please provide your camper with stationary and pre-addressed and pre-stamped envelopes so that it is easy for them to write you back. Campers whose parents live outside of Quebec or Ontario will be able to have their letters photographed and emailed to their parents. PHOTOS are posted daily from Sunday to Friday at 8:00 am in our CampMinder system. The photo page allows you to mark favorites, view, buy and share photos, as well as view slideshows. You can click the icons below each photo to perform these actions. All of the photos you view online are available for purchase as prints, digital downloads, or gift items such as t-shirts or calendars. All proceeds from the sale of these photos go towards supporting our camper scholarship fund. VIDEOS will be posted to our social media channels throughout the summer and available on our Vimeo page: https://vimeo.com/campkinneretbiluim GUEST ACCOUNTS: By clicking the “Guest Accounts” icon you will be able to create accounts for family members and friends so that they can view photos and send emails. If you’d like your guest to be able to email your child(ren) make sure to check the appropriate boxes (these will be evident upon entering the guest’s information). After creating each account your guest will receive an email similar to the one you received when first creating a password and security questions. They will be guided through the same process in order to log in securely. You do not need to create guest accounts for parents/guardians of the child(ren) as that information is already stored in our system. PACKAGES Campers are not allowed to receive any packages at camp unless your camper is celebrating a birthday while at camp. Only one package is allowed on your campers’ birthday – please inform family and friends of this policy. If your camper has forgotten something or has run out of anything, we are pleased to provide many essential items like toothbrushes, deodorant, and shampoo at no charge. Other essential items that we may not stock at camp, like clothing, can only be mailed to camp with the pre-authorization of our office manager. This person can be reached at office@ckb.ca. Without exception, all unauthorised packages will be returned to sender. Again, please inform your relatives and friends of this policy.
