Our camper cabins are split into three divisions based on birthdates as of 6/30/21. Ages 6-10 is Our Cabins: juniors, ages 11-12 is intermediates, and ages 13-15 are seniors. Birth Certificates are required We have 22 camper cabins that typically house to be uploaded during registration. 16-18 campers & counselors. For 2021, each cabin will only house 10-12 campers & counselors. Each cabin is equipped with bunks and electricity. Long Beach Bunk Requests will open at the start of May. Due to the new limited capacities, we will guarantee a camper’s first request as long as the requested camper is in the same session and division and the 6:28am request is reciprocated. We will also do our very best to fit all subsequent requests into a cabin but it is not guaranteed. Please understand that bunk requests are an intricate puzzle, so while we really try to honor everyone’s requests, sometimes it is not mathematically possible and thus we are not able to make guarantees past the first requested name. Bunk requests will close two weeks before the session. Unfortunately, there will be NO cabin changes on check in day. 12
Additional 2021 Accommodations: ● We will not be eating in the dining hall this summer. Instead, we will have a large rental tent located in our shrine area under which we will eat all our meals. ● We will not be using our “counselor canteen” for staff time off. Instead, we will have a large rental tent located behind our chapel for staff to use during time off. ● We will have isolation tents near our infirmary for emergency medical purposes. We are also adding additional quarantine rooms in our infirmary. ● We have secured electrostatic cleaners, thermometers, PPE, cleaning supplies, extra hand soap, antibacterial dispensers and have developed a cleaning schedule so that every building and every activity get cleaned multiple times daily. ● Each division of campers has their own bath house. In order to eliminate large crowds gathering at certain points in the day, we have decided to schedule shower periods. Each cabin will have a designated shower time every other day. Campers are welcome to shower during down time as well, but the designated shower times will give them access to our bath houses as a cabin without other campers and lines. ● Inclement Weather Plans: Every summer we face uncertain weather. If it is a light mist, we will attempt to continue with regularly scheduled activities. If it is raining, cabins that have an indoor or sheltered activity will continue on with their plans and everyone else will be sent to do activities in their cabins or in separate buildings around camp. If there is lightning/thunder, then everyone will shelter in their cabins. Do not worry, though, we will have plenty of games and activities planned for instances like these! 13
Our Programming: For summer 2021,activities will be cabin specific to limit group sizes. Camp Bernadette offers: -Swimming -Water Trampoline -Boating -Tubing -Ropes (high and low courses) -Sports -Arts & Crafts -Nature -Pottery -Archery -Drama -Faith -And a lot more new surprises! 14
Camp MASK Policy: When campers are exclusively with their cohort either at an activity or in their physical cabins they do not need to be masked. Cohort= A cohort is the members living in one cabin; it includes campers, counselors & CITs for a total of 12 people max. Whenever anyone is in a public building or not with their cohort and not able to maintain 10 feet apart outside, they must be masked. This includes if an activity needs a head staff chaperone and that person cannot maintain 10 feet distance. Cabins are off limits to everyone but the people who live in it. Every activity will be done as in previous years but just as a cohort. However, Bernadette will not have horses for 2021. Bernie/Fatima days: For 2021, there will be no Bernie/Fatima days. We are maintaining two separate camps this summer. Night Activities: Most night activities have been modified or changed to be done as a cohort like an additional activity period. We are planning a few camp-wide or divisional night activities that can be done socially distanced. 15
Our Faith: Our Catholic faith is central to our camping philosophy and permeates every aspect of our daily life. Our call is to love and serve those around us with Christ as our model and our means. For that reason we have weekly Mass to fulfill our Sunday obligation and hold a regular evening prayer session called “Shrine”. Our camping program provides a fun and faith filled environment where all campers and staff will feel welcome regardless of their religious upbringing. In July 2020, Father Joshua Livingston was For 2021 specifically: appointed as Chaplain for both Camp Bernadette There will be two Masses during a session. Both Masses & Camp Fatima. Ensure you send a big enough one on check-in day so that it will hold any edible care package items that you send. Camper Responses: If you are hoping to receive something from your camper, whether it is a physical letter or a Bunk Note (page 20), then please speak to her about it before camp! We cannot force your camper to write to you, they are usually just having too much fun to stop & write! 19
Bunk Notes: Bunk Notes is an external service provided for families who choose to sign up. Bunk Notes allows families to email a note which will be printed out and delivered to their camper like a normal letter. If the family chooses the reply package, the parent/guardian email will be accompanied by a blank response letter with a barcode. The camper can then fill out the blank response letter, and our office will scan it to the Bunk Note company. The barcode will deliver it to the parent/guardian email on file. There is approximately a 24 hour turnaround for emails to reach campers or response pages to get back to parents once the camper has filled it out. Prior to camp, parents/guardians will have the opportunity to add camp store money to their campers account. Your camper does NOT need physical cash. Multi-Session Campers Change-Over Weekends: If your camper is staying multiple sessions during the 2021 summer season, they will need to remain on campus during the changeover weekend(s) in between their session(s). There is NO changeover weekend charge for summer 2021. Unfortunately, in order to maintain our “camp bubble”, there will not be the opportunity for family visits during that time. But do not worry!..... We are planning some AWESOME activities for our multi-session campers! We will keep them busy doing special activities, and we will order yummy food for a special dinner to be brought in! In addition, during the changeover weekends, campers will have access to their phones so you will have ample time to facetime and chat! **Don’t forget to sign up for laundry! (Sign ups will be in May) 23
Our staff Every summer our staff work really hard to create a magical experience for our campers. For our 2021 season, we will be working especially hard to keep everyone happy and safe. Being employed at a summer camp is a lesson in service and teamwork and quite certainly a labor of love. Our staff members gain leadership skills to build their resumes for any future profession while leading young girls, changing lives and having fun! For 2021, our staff are agreeing to remain on campus for 10 weeks (even on time off) in order to maintain our “camp bubble.” We are all making that commitment to provide the safest environment for our campers during a COVID summer. 24
Frequently Asked Questions: Q: Can we find out what cabin my camper is in before check-in day? A: Unfortunately, we do not share the cabin assignments until campers are checking into camp. Q: What if my camper forgot to pack something? A: We have spare blankets, toothbrushes, travel sized toiletries to provide your camper should she need it. You can also send her these items through Amazon etc to get them to her quickly. Q: Is transportation offered? A: For 2021, all campers MUST arrive by personal transportation. The NH guidelines dictate no carpooling. Our Long Island NY bus will not be running this summer. The guidelines suggest only one parent/guardian drives their camper(s) to camp. Q: What about camp food? A: Our camps use a food service called FreshPicks/CafeServices that serves New Hampshire schools. They offer plenty of variety and have gluten free and vegetarian options. For 2021, most if not all of camp we will be dining outside. We have a large rental tent being set up in our shrine area to accomplish this. Q: Is Laundry available? A: Laundry is only available for campers staying over 2 weeks. Multi-session campers can sign up for laundry through their registration on Camp Brain starting in May. Q: What medical services do you offer? A: Camp Bernadette will have multiple nurses on site at all times. We will also have a medical director on call for our nurses for the 2021 season. We are 5 minutes from Huggins Hospital and emergency response is less than 10 minutes from camp. We are also about 20 minutes from urgent care. Q: What is the protocol if my camper needs to go to the hospital or urgent care for a non-related COVID injury or illness? A: TBD- We are still working out what is the safest and best protocols when handling outside trips with our Medical Director. It may be handled on a case by case basis and whether the parent/guardian should take the camper vs the nurses or head staff from camp. As well as how we safely reintegrate those camp members back into our camp bubble. Q: What happens if my camper tests positive for COVID or shows symptoms of COVID during their stay? A: Please see page 8 regarding our COVID testing policy. Further, if a camper shows symptoms they will be isolated awaiting test results and the cabin will quarantine. Should the test be negative all camp activities for that cabin resumes. 25
