Breckinridge County High School Principal’s Message News - March 7, 2021 Good Sunday evening Tiger Nation!!! I sure hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend and all were able to stay safe and healthy! The final week of the third grading period has arrived and spring is right around the corner. It is hard to believe that we only have ten school weeks remaining this school year. Please enjoy this week’s Principal’s Message as it is packed with lots of information. I hope you have an awesome week and Go Tigers!!! BCHS will start having students attending in-person all four days Monday, March 8th. So, all in-person students will attend in-person Monday through Thursday each week and have school remotely on Fridays for the remainder off the school year. All remote-only students will still attend remotely five days a week for the remainder of the school year. We are very excited about getting all of our in-person students in the building at once. We have worked very hard over the last couple of weeks to make sure we are ready for all of our students. We will have desks spread out in classes to ensure we are maximizing social distancing to the best of our ability and we will continue to eat lunch in desks. It will be imperative that students continue to wear their masks and social distance the entire time they are at school. With the weather getting warmer, many teachers will start offering “mask breaks” by taking their classes for walks outside to get a little break. The important thing to keep in mind as we move to in-person four days a week is students do not need to attend if they do not feel well. To ensure we are protecting each other, we must stay home if we have any COVID-19 symptoms or if we do not feel well in general. We also ask that students stay home if anyone from the household is awaiting results from a COVID test. We definitely appreciate you helping us with this small favor! Week of March 8-12 Again, in-person students will be attending school in-person Monday through Thursday and working remotely on Friday’s using their Google Classroom. Remote students will continue utilizing their Google Classrooms and working remotely Monday through Friday each week. End of the Third Grading Period The end of the third grading period is Friday, March 12th. We will send report cards home via mail on Monday, March 15th. Please look over your child's grades and contact us if you have any questions or concerns. I would like to encourage all parents and guardians to sign up for Parent Portal through Infinite Campus. This tool allows you to track your child’s grades, attendance, and behavior. Click on the link below to sign up for this service. Parent Portal Sign-Up Form Parent-Teacher Communications The parent-teacher relationship is a partnership to help your child succeed. We are readily available for you at any time you need. Please contact the school below to speak to someone about your child’s progress or use the email link below to reach out directly to your child’s teachers. BCHS Contact: Phone 270-756-3080 Email: Staff Emails After-School Tutoring BCHS has after-school tutoring available Monday through Thursday from 3:00 to 4:00 in the BCHS library. This service is available to all students even if you are not in-person on that certain day. This service is also available to you if you are 100% remote. We do offer a shuttle run at 4:20 and 5:20 each afternoon to deliver students to their hometowns to save on trips into Harned. The activity buses will arrive at our elementary schools around 4:45 and 5:45.
Breckinridge County High School Principal’s Message News - March 7, 2021 Athletics The final week of the regular season is here and both our Lady Tigers and Fighting Tigers will have a light week as they prepare for the 11th District Tournament the following week at Hancock County High School. The Lady Tigers will play host to Daviess County on Tuesday, March 9th at 5:30 and 7:00. The Fighting Tigers are off this week. The Fighting Tigers split their games last week as they defeated Hart County 95-88 in Tiger Arena Monday night in a very exciting ball game. The Fighting Tigers then fell to Grayson County on Thursday night. The Lady Tigers had a great week as well as they went 2-1 for the week and improved to 18-3 on the season. The Lady Tigers defeated a very nice Ohio County team by 19 on Tuesday before falling to top twenty ranked Henderson County on the road Friday night. The Lady Tigers rebounded from that loss nicely as they defeated John Hardin on the road Saturday night. Again, the Lady Tigers will play Daviess County Tuesday night at Tiger Arena for the final regular season game of the 2020-2021 season. Fighting Tiger and Lady Tiger Athletics - Week of March 8 LINK to BreckLive Student Section at Basketball Games BCHS is more than excited to announce that we are going to allow a student section at the remaining home games for the 2020-2021 basketball season. We will be able to allow 50 students in each contest. Current BCHS seniors will have priority on tickets. If there are any remaining tickets then juniors will be eligible to purchase. All tickets are $5.00 and will be paid for at the door. If you would like to attend a game, click on the game below and fill out the form. Please understand that all students in attendance will be required to wear a mask the whole time, social distance by standing on an assigned sticker, and wreak havoc on or opponents in a Champion manner! Again, we only have 50 student tickets. If we have more than 50 students sign up, we will do a random draw with seniors receiving priority. You will be notified via your student email if you are admitted to the game. We look forward to seeing you in Tiger Arena! Go Tigers!!! Breckinridge County High School Principal’s Message News - March 7, 2021 BCHS Class of 2021 Graduation Friday, May 28 5:30 - Session 1 7:30 - Session 2 Breckinridge County High School will have our 2021 Commencement exercises on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 5:30 P.M. and at 7:30 P.M. We have decided on the split session graduation to provide all our graduates the opportunity to walk across the stage and have family members present. Number of Graduates Total Students Participating: 160 (approximately) ● Total Students 5:30 Ceremony: 80 graduates ● Total Students 7:30 Ceremony 80 graduates Crowd Capacity ● Crowd Capacity at 15% would allow us to have 480 guests per session. This would allow each graduate 6 tickets for guests to attend their graduation. ● Students will not count toward the 15% just like our athletic events. ● Faculty will not count toward the 15% and will be seated on the gym floor six feet apart. *** We hope the percentage will be increased by May and in communication with the community we will address the capacity limitations. By having two ceremonies, we are able to provide each graduate with a larger number of tickets to invite family and friends. We will also use the time in between sessions to sanitize the gymnasium to provide all graduates and guest with a safe environment. Masks will be required to be worn by all individuals in the building and social distancing will be monitored. Masks and Social Distancing ● Graduates will be seated on the gym floor six feet apart and will be required to wear a mask. ● Faculty will be seated on the gym floor, spaced six feet apart, and required to wear a mask. ● Distinguished Guests (Stage Seats) will be placed in areas around the stage. We will only use the stage to hand out diplomas. ● Guests will be required to be socially distanced and seated six feet apart from other families. We are excited about these plans and the opportunity to have our students “walk” across a stage. These plans do have the potential to change from now until May 28th. We hope our number of COVID-19 cases continue to decline so we can allow more guests to attend. Please stay tuned. Project Graduation As of today, we do not have plans to have a project graduation. Please know Mrs. Shrewsberry is in constant contact with school administration discussing options.
Breckinridge County High School Principal’s Message News - March 7, 2021 ACT at BCHS Good luck to all of our juniors on Tuesday of this week as they will be taking the state mandated ACT test. We look forward to watching this group perform well on this exam! 2021 BCHS Prom Saturday, April 17, 2021 BCHS is always striving to make memories for our students. After the devastating end to last year and that group of seniors missing out on many important memories, we are committed to doing everything in our power to make memories!!! Therefore, we will be having our 2021 BCHS Prom. The 2021 BCHS Prom will have a little different look in order for us to safely and effectively offer this incredible opportunity. ● Seniors ONLY ○ Seniors can invite underclassmen as their dates. ● 40 Students at a Time ○ We will have five sessions for students to attend. ■ 5:00-6:00 ■ 6:00-7:00 ■ 7:00-8:00 ■ 8:00-9:00 ■ 9:00-10:00 ● Students attending will have to quarantine from school for two weeks (Can return on May 3) ○ However, students can return April 26 with a negative test after 7 days. ○ This includes our athletes quarantining from their sport. I realize this is a lot. There is probably a lot of excitement about this news and then a lot of frustration and/or aggravation about what we are doing. We get it. Please understand this is a different time! We are trying our best to provide these special memories while making sure we keep all of our students and all of our staff safe and healthy. BCHS Prom 2021 Sign-Up Youth Service Center - Baby Pictures Mrs. Kim Shrewsberry and the Youth Service Center are in need of senior pictures for our graduation video. This is a wonderful video and we don't want anyone left out of it, so please get these to us as soon as you can!!! School Pictures and Senior Drape Pictures We will have to communicate with Graham Photography and reschedule our picture retake day and our senior drape photos. We will communicate that day thoroughly when we set a date and time. Class Ring Order Day Herff Jones will be at BCHS on Thursday, March 11th to talk with our 10th grade class about ordering their class rings. Students will be able to order and then receive these rings during their junior year.
Breckinridge County High School Principal’s Message News - March 7, 2021 Healthy Habits Our county Incident Rate Number is dropping! We must keep up the great work! It is important for each of us to do our part to keep our community safe, healthy, and ultimately, in school. We must continue to wash our hands frequently and thoroughly. We must continue to wear our masks and distance ourselves from others. We must also not get around others when we do not feel well. So, if you are a student and you are not feeling well, please stay home and work remotely. It is not worth the chance of getting others sick. Graduation Orders Please click on the link below if you are needing to order your cap and gown or any graduation items. Herff Jones - Graduation Information I know that was a lot of information.
