VS Bowers & Pitsea Ladies FC vs Luton Town Ladies FC Sunday 27th October 2019 2pm Kick Off www.bowerspitsealadiesfc.co.uk bowerspitsealadiesfc@gmail.com Twitter: @BowersLadiesFC
We would like to welcome Luton Town Ladies FC to The Len Salmon Stadium for today’s FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round fixture. We hope you all enjoy your visit to us today. Here we go again, 4 games in the space of 15 days and another massive draw for us in this year’s SSE FA Women’s Cup and great to finally be at home. It’s our first season in the Eastern Region Women’s Football League Premier Divi- sion and we have had a mixed start to the season and have been very unlucky in some of the fixtures where the score line hasn't reflected the game in any form. It’s been great to have the introduction of our Development Squad, giving us a feeder team to the First Tam and its great that we have had the chance to play some of our development squad in our midweek game away to Billericay Town in the Isthmian Women’s Cup on Wednesday night and again here today in the Women’s FA Cup. It is a great experience for them to play at a higher level and prove that their inclusion is in recognition of their ability and attitude in the building of a new division within our club. We hope you all enjoy the game today. Darren Fraser First Team Manager UPTHE BOWERS www.bowerspitsealadiesfc.co.uk bowerspitsealadiesfc@gmail.com Twitter: @BowersLadiesFC 2
FIRST HALF Bowers started slowly and struggled to get a foothold into the game but the breakthrough came in the 9th minute. A long ball down the line was played out for a throw and the quick thinking of Ebony helped to put Yas- min through on goal and smashed the ball into the back of the net for her first goal since joining us from Lawford (1-0). Bedford continued to cause havoc on the break and 4 minutes later, a looping long ball over the top found the striker in plenty of space whose initial shot was well saved by Violet but the follow up was smashed into the roof of the net from 6 yards out which gave Violet no chance (1-1). This is how it would stay for the remainder of the half, with Megan, Yasmin and Ebony, all testing the goalkeeper but unable to produce the killer instinct. Violet up the other end, keeping the score line down with a few decent saves. HALF TIME: Bedford 1 Bowers & Pitsea 1 It could be 3 or 4 goals for Bowers but chances not taken so far. SECOND HALF Bowers came out a lot stronger in the second half and still creating plen- ty of chances without the final killer instinct but on 63 minutes, Bedford got the winner. A long ball over the top caught the Bowers defence a little too high and the striker took the ball down lovely and calmly slotted into the far corner, past the diving Violet (1-2). Chances still being created by Bowers with Yasmin, Holly, Megan, Georgia and Danni J all testing the goalkeeper but unable to find the back of the net. FULL TIME: Bedford 2 Bowers & Pitsea 1 Another week and another score line which doesn’t reflect on the Bowers performance. Quickly showing in the league that you can have all the possession but unless you find the back of the net, you won’t win games. Club History - Luton Town Ladies were formed in 1997. In the early days we only had youth teams. At the start of the 2001/2002 season, we fielded our first adult team and entered the Southern Region League Division 1. We set a target that in 10 years we wanted to be in the Premier League! We smashed that target and in 2009 were promoted into the FA Women's Premier League and were up against big guns such as Liverpool, Man City and Newcastle. This unfortunately only lasted one season as the travelling was just too much but we then stayed in the Women's Premier League South East. We finished 4th in 2015 and again in 2016, before narrowly losing out on 4th on the last day of the 2018 season, finishing 5th, the same as 2017. Unfortunately in 2019 we were relegated out of the National league due to a disappointing season and we now compete in the Eastern Regional premier division Statement from Nikki Baker - Manager “It has been a good start to the season for us having only lost once so far. The FA Cup run has been good and we have- n’t conceded a goal yet. The main goal is promotion back into the national league but it won’t come easy, this is a tough league. It will be good to come up against league opposition this time and see how far we can go” www.bowerspitsealadiesfc.co.uk bowerspitsealadiesfc@gmail.com Twitter: @BowersLadiesFC 11
