Former England B international striker Mel Eves was loaned
to Mansfield Town during the 1987-88 campaign. Signing
professional for Wolves in July 1975, he featured in their
1980 League Cup final success and was an FA Cup finalist in
1980-81. He was leading scorer as they regained top-flight
England U-21 striker Richard Cresswell had a loan spell at
Mansfield Town in 1996-97. Starting with York City, he was
loaned to Mansfield in March 1997, scoring once in five
League games. He joined Sheffield Wednesday for £950,000
in March 1999 and moved via Leicester City to Preston in
status at the first attempt in 1982-83 and joined Sheffield March 2001. Helping them twice reach the Championship
