We plan on keeping the formal meeting part informative but brief, with the addition of an inter- esting guest. We want to make the topics of interest to all so that will be an interesting challenge. Our first guest Paul Fahey was in top form and I only managed about half the questions before time had run away on us! We had a cuppa and biscuits afterward and I think it took us another 45 minutes at least to bid farewell to our popular and illustrious 88 year -old guest and finally close the venue. A big thanks to Dave and Julie for manning the bar and organiz- ing the club rooms complete with a sound system for the even- ing. Backing up to the Tri Run, again a great turnout with about 60 plus members from each of the 3 Mustang Owners Clubs, I’m sure you will be very keen to read all about it in the run report. Your new committee met on a very wintery wet night on Wednesday the 12th May and you may be relieved to know that we all left still as friends! We look forward to sharing news of an upcoming Fish and Chip run to Ohope Beach which we reckon might be worth making into an annual winter run. We also look forward to the provision of a fun evening for our Mid-Winter Christmas din- ner evening but I’ll let you read about that once we firm up plans but watch this space on this one!
Thanks again to our Convention committee who are doing the last-minute organizing as we speed towards the ever- closer weekend, only about 20 short weeks away! While we all head into winter this year and there is very little opportunity to sneak off to a much warmer climate further North due to travel restrictions, I do hope you all stay warm and well, do enjoy your Mustangs! Your committee looks forward to continue making our club a friendly and fun place to be a proud member of. 2021 Ultimate Ford National Mustang Convention Update 22 - 25 October 2021 By Grant Robb Registrations are continuing to come in, but at a slower rate now after the initial rush. At the time of writing, we have 110+ cars registered so numbers are looking good with still a few months to go. This past month has been spent confirming a lot of the second tier (Silver) sponsorship and working through many of administrative details that make up a convention. There is still a lot that cannot be completed until we know final registration numbers, so time is being spent getting as much of this ready as we can to hopefully make things a bit easier when we are able to finalise bookings and confirm orders. Please send registration forms and to bopmocconvention@gmail.com by 31 August 2021. Early Registrations (Before 4pm 31 July) will go into a draw for a bi-plane flight sponsored by Classic Flyers ! Sponsor Profile Matamata Panelworks and Shelby NZ are part of our list of great ma- jor sponsors for our upcoming convention. Matamata Panel- works have been in business 21 years now, providing a range of ser- vices from accident repairs to full body restoration and custom builds. They have earned a fantastic reputation for their quality of work not only on Mustangs but all kinds of cars, many of which have been show winners and have featured in numerous automotive magazines. Matamata Panelworks previously had two divisions: Collision Repairs and Restoration. Last year the added a third: Shelby NZ. Gaining the Shelby license is testament to the quali- ty of workmanship and service provided by Matamata Panelworks. Shelby NZ is able to pro- vide full Shelby build’s as well as Shelby parts, accessories and merchandise. We are very pleased to have both Matamata Panelworks and Shelby NZ as major sponsors. This is my first time writing the newsletter. If you have been a long standing member or are new, just like me, I look forward to providing some interesting reading and some photos of what has been going on in BOP Mustang Land. A little birdie has told me there is a Trade Me Auction being organised to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Association. The organiser is one of AMOC's (Auckland Club) mem- ber’s, David Seymour, (from Whangarei) who has been diagnosed with this disorder. The prize is a drive in a mustang with morning/afternoon tea at a café. BOPMOC have gladly agreed to help out with the prize should the winner live in the BOP. Please support this auction on Trade Me which is going live in June/July. See you at the next Club Run or Event. Cheers, Carole

Our First Club Night - 6 May 2021 By Carole Seymour “Paul Fahey – a Celebration of a Kiwi Motorsport Legend” is “The Life Story of a Lucky Bugger” What a night was had on our first club night at the Otumotai Golf Club Rooms. Over 40 club members met and shared very convivial beverages, good conversations and heard from the motor racing legend Paul Fahey. After an initial rush at the bar and friendly conversations, everyone settled in for the even- ing. Bruce gave everyone a warm welcome, briefly introduced the Club Committee mem- bers and gave an update of upcoming club events. Bruce quickly moved onto the main event: An interview with New Zealand's legendary motor racing icon, Paul Fahey. The loveable rogue, enticed us with tales of daring, “getting carried away” with his racing, his injuries, recoveries and milestones in his long racing career. Not to mention stories of importing cars, customs agent run-ins and his be- loved Escort and Mustang. Paul also eluded to his 62 year marriage, what a milestone. The evening ended Paul Fahey being presented with a certificate from the club and thank- ing him. It was then time for teas, coffees, and an opportunity to have more great conver- sations with fellow club members. Attendees had the opportunity to have a selfie with Paul Fahey and several got their books signed by him. The good old days were alive and kicking that night. Join us at the NEXT CLUB NIGHT: Thursday 1 July 2021 Meet 7:00pm for a 7:30pm start Otumoetai Golf Club Rooms, 25 Bureta Road Guest speaker to be announced.
Annual Tri Club run to Waihi Beach - 2 May 2021 By Carole Seymour It was finally BOP Mustangs Owners Club’s turn to host the Annual Tri Run on a glorious, sunny, autumnal day on Sunday 2nd May 2021. After being postponed last year due to Covid 19 Lock down, Club members were “chomping at the bit” to saddle up at Tauriko Crossing for a 9.15am departure. Once the 26 ponies were corralled and the 45 plus riders briefed, they were off and racing convoying on a sedate pony trek to Waihi Beach Community Hall and a rendezvous with AMOC (Auckland) and WMOC (Waikato). There were over 200 riders and approximately 100 Mustangs on parade, Bruce welcomed everyone and after formalities it was time to “let the games begin” a Trophy was at stake. The games included a Quiz, Closest to the Cone and various ball skill games in the Waihi Beach Community Hall. The lunch was a splendid buffet affair at the Waihi Beach RSA across the road, followed by the prize giving/awards. The Sheriff handed out some fines on the day. “85 MUZY” from Waikato was fined for tak- ing 2 parking spaces to park up; The Beachams’ were fined as their Mustang broke down on the way there; Paula from the Auckland club was fined for side line coaching in the closer to the cone competition. Official Tri Club Run Results: • Closest to the Cone - 1st Mike Adams with co-pilot Rebecca (BOP), 2nd Paul and Helen (BOP) • Quiz - BOP 21, Waikato 20, Auckland 19 • Indoor Games : Auckland 28, BOP 20, Waikato 15 • OVERALL RESULTS : BOP 1st; Auckland 2nd; Waikato 3rd. • ANZAC Interclub Challenge Trophy Winners BOP Special thanks must be mentioned to Charles and Heather Quintal for organising the suc- cessful event as well as the Waihi Beach RSA for the yummy lunch. It was a great day out with our fellow club members, where some new friendships and memories were made. And BOP won the Trophy for the first time! Go BOPMOC!
