Who decides what is beautiful and what is not?

The concept of 'beautiful' often includes the case
where an existence is in complete balance and
harmony with nature, a situation which can lead to
feelings of attraction.
One difficulty in understanding beauty is due to the
fact that it has both objective and subjective aspects
Because of its subjective side, beauty is said to be
"in the eye of the beholder”.
 It has been argued that the ability to perceive and
judge beauty is sometimes referred to as a “sense of
taste".

Why are we so preoccupied with our physical appearance?

Attractiveness is defined by many things that go
beyond the superficial.
We constantly find ourselves being preoccupied with
the way we look.
