Where, when and why are we going? Where? SESTRIERE, ITALY When? Sat. 16th – Sat. 23rd February 2019 Why? A great opportunity for students to experience the thrill of skiing, some for the first time, some not, and to visit a beautiful overseas alpine environment with their classmates, developing their independence, social skills, resilience & a new physical skill.
The Ski Resort Sestriere, Italy – The Milky Way Ski Area Ski Area Sestriere is the first purpose built resort in Italy. It sits at just over 2000mts. It’s northwest aspect helps give this resort some excellent snow records. The skiing is mainly on one side of the valley however on the other side there is a gondola link which takes you to the top of Mount Fraiteve from where you get stunning panoramic views. This is the cross roads for the Milky Way and from here you have the choice of either dropping into Sauze d’Oulx or SanSicario. Beyond SanSicario is Cesana, Claviere and eventually Montgenevre across the border in France. All levels of skier should find something to satisfy them in Sestriere and the neighbouring resorts . There is steep terrain and off-piste for advanced skiers, an endless amount of good cruising reds for intermediates and excellent slopes to learn on for beginners close to the centre of town. The lift system is made up of a majority of high speed quads. The wonderful thing about Sestriere is that lift queues don’t really exist. Weekends and public holidays aside you tend to ski straight on to the lifts. Piste Area – 440 km, No. of Runs – 598, Longest Run – 11 km, Top Piste Altitude – 2840m No. of Lifts – 78, 2 Snow Parks.
